Advances to Red Bull BC One National Final in Houston on August 17th

Sin City was set afire last night as the best b-boys from the West Coast went head to head in a fierce battle during the Red Bull BC One Cypher under the lighted canopy at the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas. The open-air location allowed more than 2,000 spectators to be treated to a night of intense battles, and ultimately, the Red Bull BC One judges Neguin (Red Bull BC One All Star), Teknyc (Skill Methodz Crew) and Floor Rock (Rock Skittles) crowned Lil Rock as the Las Vegas regional champion.

After besting 15 other prominent West Coast b-boys in Las Vegas, Lil Rock will now advance to compete in the U.S. National Finals in Houston on August 17th and battle his way to the top for the chance to represent America in the Red Bull BC One World Championship event in Seoul, South Korea this November. Hailing from Orange County, Calif., Lil Rock (Killafornia Crew) boasts accomplishments including five championship titles from Freestyle Session and a pro-am championship title. Lil Rock wowed the audience and judges throughout the night with his original and explosive signature moves including the head lotus wave and Aladdin freeze.

“I’m humbled by the title the judges have given me,” said Lil Rock. “I honestly did not expect to win. I went into this competition with hard training and a strong focus on being the best that I can. I am looking forward to being a part of the Red Bull BC One program and continue to introduce the b-boy culture to the world.”

“Lil Rock is definitely the right winner for this cypher,” said Teknyc, one of three judges. “Seeing what he accomplished today was inspiring for all of us. He brought his personality, musicality, originality and execution. He was calm, collected and phased the components with respect. He definitely represents what this dance culture is about and pushes the envelope to the next level. I can’t wait to see him in Houston and hopefully proceed to the World Final.”

“This event was definitely history in the making. As a Vegas native, I want to work towards building our city to become the b-boy capital. All in all, Red Bull was able to make our dream into a reality,” said Ronnie, a Red Bull BC One world champion (2007) and All Star.

Now in its 10th year, Red Bull BC One has earned the reputation as a showcase for the world’s best b-boys. While many competitions focus on crew battles, Red Bull BC One’s one-on-one, single elimination battle format focuses on talents and strength of the individual dancer. Judges score the b-boys on their battle strategy, power moves, dance foundation, fresh routine, and overall style. More than 60 cyphers will be held around the world, with 16 b-boys advancing to Seoul, making this a true world championship.

Singer, actress and businesswoman, Jennifer Lopez, enjoyed an afternoon with her children and boyfriend, Casper Smart, at Sugar Factory American Brasserie inside Paris Las Vegas.

After an edgy Billboard Awards performance, the entertainer took some much needed downtime with her loved ones. The sultry siren, dressed casually in a white blouse, black capris and high-top gold and black Nikes and pulled back hair, sipped on Chocolate Milkshakes with her children and noshed on Sugar Factory’s Signature Burger and sweet crepes.

After lunch, the group headed towards the retail shop where the kids picked out 10 bags of assorted candy, along with assorted Snow White, Hulk and Iron Man PEZ dispensers. J.Lo grabbed handfuls of Sugar Factory’s signature Couture Pops to take home with her.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters’ 1993 breakthrough album Sister Sweetly spent over a year on the Billboard Top 200. The album launched three hit singles: “Bittersweet,” “Broken Hearted Savior” and “Circle,” all of which reached Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart. Sister Sweetly was certified platinum within a year of its release.

Soul Asylum’s Grave Dancers Union sold over three million albums and spent 76 weeks on the Billboard charts after its 1992 release. The album features hits like “Somebody to Shove,” “Black Gold” and “Runaway Train.” “Runaway Train” was awarded a GRAMMY in 1993 in the “Best Rock Song” category.

UNLV ATHLETICS NEWS: Tina Kunzer-Murphy Appointed As Interim Athletic Director

UNLV ANNOUNCES TINA KUNZER-MURPHY AS INTERIM ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

UNLV President Neal Smatresk today announced the appointment of Tina Kunzer-Murphy as interim athletic director effective July 1, 2013.

“Tina Kunzer-Murphy has agreed to step into the role of interim athletic director on the heels of Jim Livengood’s retirement,” said UNLV President Neal Smatresk. “Tina brings a wealth of experience to UNLV and I am truly grateful that she will be serving in this critical role.”

Kunzer-Murphy has been serving as director of alumni sponsorship and development for the UNLV Alumni Relations department since January 2013.

Previously Kunzer-Murphy spent twelve years as the executive director of the Las Vegas Bowl for ESPN Regional Television Inc. Prior to her work with the Las Vegas Bowl, she was the general manager for the ESPN Regional Institution Project for UNLV’s department of intercollegiate athletics (2000-2005).

Kunzer-Murphy served as the senior associate athletic director at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA (1992-1993). Before that she served in progressively responsible roles within UNLV’s intercollegiate athletics department for 15 years (1977-1992), from head women’s tennis coach and senior assistant athletic director.

Kunzer-Murphy has experience with compliance in university, conference and NCAA regulations, as well as day-to-day operations for athletics. She managed the Western Athletic Conference football championship and basketball tournaments for Las Vegas Events, Inc. and the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority. A 2007 inductee of the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame, Kunzer-Murphy became the first woman to serve as chairman of the Football Bowl Association. In the summer of 2011, she was honored as Las Vegas’ Sportsperson of the Year. She was recognized by the Las Vegas Sun as one of the Top 10 Most Influential Sports Professionals in Nevada in 2008.

Kunzer-Murphy earned a bachelor of science in physical education and a master of education in secondary education from UNLV.

English-Irish boy band The Wanted released its self-titled debut record in 2010, striking a chord in the hearts of Brits and landing on the UK charts with three top-20 singles. Their debut single, “All Time Low,” went to number one on the UK charts, followed by US success with the group’s second number-one hit, “Glad You Came,” from the sophomore album, Battleground. The group followed up with Congratulations in 2010 and just released the studio version of their new song, “Alien Days,” in April. MGMT is tentatively slated to release its third album in June.
