“Rugby Week in Las Vegas” Brings Nonstop Energy to Fremont Street Experience for 2014 Parade of Nations

What: “Rugby Week in Las Vegas” kicks into high gear when the 2014 USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament celebrates its Opening Ceremonies with the annual Parade of Nations on the Fremont Street Experience.

The Parade of Nations will run from Casino Center Blvd. to the Third Street Stage.

 

Details: USA Sevens cheerleaders will put on a special performance on the Third Street Stage as the 16 competing teams embark on their route down the Fremont Street Experience starting at Casino Center Blvd. An electrifying atmosphere will be created as DJ Manny spins beats and cheerleaders toss USA Sevens merchandise into the crowd. There will be a photo opportunity with each team in front of their national flag at the First Street intersection before joining the Parade of Nations. Each team will be led by a student from the school that represented their country as part of the CCSD and USA Sevens Adopt-A-Country program.

Emcee Chet Buchanan will introduce each team as they arrive at the Third Street Stage and pose on stage for a full team photo. Once all teams have been introduced, United World Sports Executive Vice President Dan Lyle will honor student winners of the CCSD Adopt-A-Country Essay and T-shirt contests. Lyle will then welcome all fans and officially open the competition for the 2014 USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament.

Following the ceremonies, USA Sevens will host the Official Block Party from 7:15 to 9 p.m. for fans eager to continue celebrating the start of the tournament. Following the Parade of Nations, Zowie Bowie will put on a special performance on the Third Street Stage from 9:10 p.m. to midnight. In addition, LVCS and Hennessy’s will host concerts featuring Baba B, Bonafide and Barry Black.

Played on the same size field as traditional 15-player rugby, rugby sevens is played with just seven players per team. Matches have seven minute halves with two minute intervals for pool and knock-out matches. The fast pace and short duration of matches makes every moment of the action thrilling for spectators.
