RUNNIN’ REBELS HOST NO. 10 SAN DIEGO STATE WEDNESDAY AT 8 PM

Senior Night “White Out” is also “Vegas Night”

After a heartbreaking loss at Boise State (91-90) in overtime on Feb. 22, the UNLV men’s basketball team has won two straight games: 78-70 at home over Colorado State last Wednesday and 93-67 at Air Force on Saturday. The Runnin’ Rebels had seven players score in double figures against the Falcons and set season highs in points, field goals made, field-goal percentage, 3-pointers made, 3-point field-goal percentage and assists.

UNLV will now host Mountain West-leading No. 10 San Diego State on Wednesday, March 5, at 8:05 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center. It will be the Runnin’ Rebels’ final regular-season home game of the year and is the annual Senior Night “White Out.” All fans are being asked to wear white and the first 7,000 in attendance will receive a free white UNLV T-shirt. Fans are also encouraged to come early to honor UNLV’s 2013-14 season seniors: Carlos Lopez-Sosa and Kevin Olekaibe. In addition, 3,000 rally towels and 3,000 senior posters will be given away. Wednesday is also “Vegas Night.” A variety of Las Vegas-themed items will take place in addition to Elvis shirts and glasses being distributed in the student section. The game is being sponsored by Valley Bank of Nevada.

The Runnin’ Rebels are looking to even the season series as they dropped a 63-52 decision to the Aztecs in San Diego on Jan. 18. UNLV is alone in third place in the Mountain West at 10-6, while San Diego State is tied with New Mexico at 14-2.

Wednesday’s game will be televised by CBS Sports Network with Andrew Catalon, Steve Lappas and Doug Gottlieb calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the radio call, which may be heard on ESPN Radio 1100/98.9 FM. The radio broadcast listen link, along with Gametracker are available at UNLVRebels.com.

The Runnin’ Rebels are fourth in the country in blocked shots per game at 6.6, ninth in rebounding at 40.3 rpg, 10th in the nation in 3-point field-goal defense, limiting their opponents to just 29.1 percent from behind the arc, and 15th in effective field-goal percentage defense at 43.9. Khem Birch is third in the country in blocked shots (3.7 bpg), while Roscoe Smith is fifth in the nation in rebounding (11.0 rpg). Birch and Smith are both tied for seventh in the country in double-doubles (15), while Bryce Dejean-Jones leads the team in scoring with 13.7 ppg.
