RUNNIN’ REBELS ADD ANOTHER FOR 2014-15 SEASON

Patrick McCaw has signed a national letter of intent and will enroll at UNLV this summer

The UNLV men’s basketball program has received a signed national letter of intent from Patrick McCaw, head coach Dave Rice announced Wednesday.

McCaw, a 6-foot-6-inch, 190-pound guard, will enroll at UNLV as a freshman this summer. Originally from St. Louis, Mo., he attends Montrose Christian High School in Rockville, Md. He averaged 13 points per game during his senior season (2013-14) and made a total of 42 3-pointers as the team finished with a 19-5 record.

“We are pleased to announce Patrick’s signing,” Rice said. “He is a versatile player and a relentless competitor. Pat is a terrific shooter and is also a very skilled passer and ballhandler. He can play multiple positions and is a great team player.”

McCaw’s first three years of high school were spent at Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis, where he was a two-year varsity starter. CBCHS is part of the Metro Catholic Conference, which has produced NBA players such as Larry Hughes, David Lee and Bradley Beal.

As a junior, McCaw averaged 12.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game, while shooting 39 percent from 3-point range and 76 percent from the free-throw line. He earned first-team All-MCC honors and led the team to the district championship game where he scored 29 points. His sophomore year, he averaged 11 ppg, 3.0 rpg and 2.0 spg, while shooting 35 percent on 3-pointers and 81 percent from the free-throw line. That season he was named the conference’s Newcomer of the Year. He also led that team to the district title game, scoring 25 points.

McCaw joins Cody Doolin, Dwayne Morgan, Goodluck Okonoboh and Rashad Vaughn to make up UNLV’s 2014 recruiting class. The class is ranked as the fourth-best in the country by Rivals.com, only behind Duke, Kentucky and Arizona, and ahead of North Carolina, Louisville, Kansas, UCLA, Georgetown and Maryland.
