DOOLIN GRANTED WAIVER BY NCAA
Runnin’ Rebel senior guard approved to play senior season
UNLV was informed Tuesday by the NCAA that its Season Of Competition waiver request for men’s basketball student-athlete Cody Doolin has been approved.
Doolin, a 6-foot-3-inch, 180-pound point guard from Austin, Texas, transferred to UNLV from San Francisco in the spring. He graduated from USF in May with a bachelor’s degree in finance, playing three full seasons (2010-13) for the Dons before playing in just four games last year.
With the waiver approval by the NCAA’s Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee, Doolin has been awarded his senior year of eligibility back. UNLV will now wait to hear on its request for a transfer residency waiver. If that is approved by the NCAA, Doolin will be eligible to compete during the 2014-15 season.
“We are very happy for Cody,” Runnin’ Rebel head coach Dave Rice said. “He has a tremendous amount of experience as a point guard and he has become a leader in our program.”
A two-time All-West Coast Conference honorable mention selection, Doolin was also twice named to the league’s all-academic team and earned Capital One Academic All-District VIII honors as a junior (2012-13). At USF, he started all 103 games he appeared in and scored over 1,000 points. He also dished out 451 assists (4.4 apg) and has a career assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.2.
In high school he was named Central Texas’ Player of the Year after leading Westlake High to a district title. He was also twice named his district’s MVP and graduated as the school’s all-time scoring and assist leader.
