’Tis the season to donate and Goodwill of Southern Nevada is busy preparing for the end of year giving rush.

The last week and a half of December is historically Goodwill of Southern Nevada’s busiest time of the year for donations, with about 20% more people dropping off items at Goodwill donation centers between Monday, December 22 and Wednesday, December 31, 2014, in order to receive a tax write off from this 501c3 nonprofit before the year officially ends.

To accommodate the rush, starting Saturday, December 27 through the end of the year, Goodwill donation centers (not attached to retail locations) will be open an extra two hours, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. These more than 30 donation centers are staffed by a donation ambassador who can provide tax-deductible receipts.

Donations of clothes, housewares, furniture, computers and more are crucial as the sale of donated goods in Goodwill stores helps fund life-changing job placement, training and education programs in Southern Nevada. Funds generated from donations to Goodwill stay local to serve our community.

“When people donate to Goodwill, they are helping someone in Southern Nevada find work,” said Steve Chartrand, President & CEO of Goodwill of Southern Nevada. “This holiday season there is no better gift to give than to clean out your closet, cabinets, and offices and help give someone the gift of a job.”

Starting now until the end of the year, hours at Goodwill of Southern Nevada’s two donation processing centers where donations are sorted have also been extended until 10 p.m. to accommodate the donation increase.

Shoppers at Goodwill of Southern Nevada’s twelve stores and two Clearance Centers can also make a cash donation to the Gift of a Job campaign at the registers during check out, or by going online to www.giftofajob.org.
