Create A Change Now Adds Three Organizational Positions

Create A Change Now, a local charity teaching at-risk students to plant, grow and cook fresh, healthy meals in order to prevent childhood obesity, announces the addition of three new positions to the organization.

The titles created to lead and grow the charity include former COO of the organization, Melissa Blynn, taking the role of Executive Director, where she will provide the leadership and management for all programs and fundraising efforts as well as oversee the strategic and operational functions of the nonprofit. Former board member, Mindy Tatti, will now serve as Development Director, helping build the organization through community outreach, marketing and fundraising. The newest addition to Create A Change Now, Julie Sanders, has accepted the role of Program Manager, taking on the execution, implementation and operational success of its Healthy School, Healthy Life program in both existing and future schools, as the key liaison between the organization and the schools it serves.

Create A Change Now is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is committed to educating and empowering children and their families by providing the resources needed to fight childhood obesity and related diseases to live happier, healthier more productive lives. Its mission is accomplished by adopting at-risk elementary schools through the organization’s Healthy School, Healthy Life program, which installs edible desert gardens in schools to provide sustainable ingredients for nutritional education.

Children in Clark County, home to the country’s fifth largest school district, are twice as likely to be obese as their parents. In Southern Nevada, according to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 33.2% of children ages 10-17 are overweight or obese. Hungry, poorly fed children rarely excel in the classroom. A person’s relationship with food and physical activity begins in infancy and is molded during childhood. Childhood obesity can lead to a lifetime of health issues that begin early and never stop, including cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea and social discrimination that follows them into their teen years and beyond.

Create A Change Now helps children and their families become healthier by introducing a cluster of support programs to help them lead healthier and happier lives. By adopting a school in this comprehensive manner, the organization builds in community support, mentors and program enrichment while addressing key health disadvantages that limit learning and life choices.
