Four-Show Family Series Includes Timeless Classics Such as Cat in the Hat and Clifford the Big Red Dog as well as new Favorites Room on the Broom and Elephant & Piggie

The Smith Center is excited to present an all-new four-show family series that is sure to thrill kids and parents alike this season. From timeless classics The Cat in the Hat and Clifford the Big Red Dog to new favorites Room on the Broom and Elephant & Piggie, families can enjoy all four of these fun-filled performances for just $50 per person. Sponsored by stage production specialists PRG, the series will take place in Reynolds Hall.

Just in time for Halloween on Wednesday, Oct. 21, Room on the Broom is a magical, musical delight for children adapted from the book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. The witch and her cat are flying happily along on their broomstick when a stormy wind blows the witch’s hat, bow and wand away into the night. With the help of a daft dog, a beautiful bird and a friendly frog, her belongings are retrieved. But this broomstick’s not meant for five and – CRACK! – it snaps in two! When a hungry dragon appears, who will save the poor witch? And will there ever be room on the broom for everyone?

From the moment his tall, red-and-white-striped hat appears at their door, Sally and her brother know that the Cat in the Hat is the most mischievous cat they will ever meet. Suddenly the rainy afternoon is transformed by the Cat and his antics. Will their house ever be the same? Can the kids clean up before mom comes home? With some tricks (and a fish) and Thing Two and Thing One, with the Cat in The Hat, the fun’s never done! Share the timeless story The Cat in the Hat on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016.

Elephant Gerald is an elephant: lumbering, formally attired, prone to melancholy. Piggie is (what else!) a piggie: perky, smiley, full of fun. Total opposites? No way! In Mo Willems’s beloved, award-winning, best-selling children’s books, Elephant Gerald and Piggie are best friends and on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, in Elephant & Piggies We Are in a Play, Elephant Gerald and Piggie sing and dance their way through plenty of pachydermal peril and swiney suspense. Along the way they will face fundamental questions like, what do you wear to a fancy pool costume party? Should you share your ice cream? And how can two friends play with one toy? Backed by nutty back-up singers The Squirrelles, the duo even gets the audience involved in the action.

It only takes a little to BE BIG! The ‘big red dog,’ a character beloved for generations, comes to life on stage in a BIG way in Clifford The Big Red Dog Live! Join Clifford, Emily Elizabeth and all their friends from Birdwell Island as they embark on an adventure filled with singing, dancing and more. Share in the timeless values of Clifford’s BIG Ideas: Share, Play Fair, Have Respect, Work Together, Be Responsible, Be Truthful, Be Kind, Believe In Yourself, Be A Good Friend and Help Others – with this musical experience the whole family will love on Wednesday, March 30, 2016.
