The annual Kentucky Derby each May is as much about fashion as it is the sport itself, with all eyes and bets on who will wear this year’s most glamorous hat or the most elaborate fascinator.
Inspired by Lauren Conrad’s Derby style and the event’s overall glamour, Pureology Artistic Ambassador Ruth Roche and Pure Artist Sandra Joseph have provided step-by-steps, using Pureology, to recreate our favorite Derby looks at home!

Pure Artist Sandra Joseph’s step-by-steps to re-create this inspirational look at home:
- On damp hair, mist Colour Fanatic multi-tasking hair beautifier from roots to ends and comb through to prime and protect the hair.

Hot Tip: If your hat is very detailed, consider keeping your hair minimal and chic so you don’t distract from the beauty of the hat!
- Apply Smooth Perfection Style + Care Infusion to damp hair and comb through.
- Blow dry the hair in sections using a paddle brush for a smooth, sleek finish.
- Create a clean center part and brush the hair back into a smooth ponytail at the nape.
- Twist the ponytail into a chignon and secure with a closed pin.
- Finish by spraying the hair with Colour Stylist Supreme Control Hairspray for extra hold and shine.

Hot Tip: Pull the hair back neatly, away from the face and dip the hat down on one side to showcase both the hair as well as the hat.
