Local Hotels Participate in American Cancer Society Patient Lodging Program

You’ve just been diagnosed with cancer and your closest treatment facility is more than 50 miles away. For a healthy person, that roundtrip drive is long enough to endure in one day. But for many cancer patients who just received infusion chemotherapy or radiation, the trip can feel like an eternity and staying overnight at a hotel is a luxury they simply can’t afford.

Seven Las Vegas hotels couldn’t agree more. And that’s why they’ve decided to generously participate in the American Cancer Society Patient Lodging Program in Las Vegas. The Patient Lodging program is a cooperative effort of the American Cancer Society and area hotels to provide short term, overnight accommodations to cancer patients who must travel for outpatient treatment but cannot afford a place to stay.

“Cancer treatment can be exhausting and the prospect of having to drive home 50 miles or more after treatment can be overwhelming,” said Erika Brassington-Stocks, Quality of Life Manager at the American Cancer Society. “The generous gift of lodging from these hotels gives cancer patients the much needed rest they require after treatment without the stress of an extra expense.”

The following hotels are currently participating in the Las Vegas Patient Lodging Program:
· Courtyard Las Vegas, South
· Fairfield Inn & Suites Las Vegas
· Residence Inn Las Vegas, South
· Hyatt Place Las Vegas
· The Westin Las Vegas
· JW Marriott Resort and Spa

In a time when the recession has affected the travel and hotel industry, these facilities have stepped up to provide an incredibly valuable service to families in remote Nevada communities 50 miles or more from Las Vegas treatment centers.

“It’s a great honor to have the opportunity to give back to the community,” says Nadine Agnant, Sales & eCommerce Marketing Manager for the Courtyard Las Vegas South, Fairfield Inn & suites, and Residence Inn Las Vegas South. “It’s been a great partnership with the American Cancer Society and very rewarding when you know you can make a difference to someone less fortunate.”

The Las Vegas Patient Lodging Program is designed for cancer patients and one caregiver, who travel over 50 miles for treatment, do not have friends or relatives to stay with in the area, and for whom it would be a financial hardship to pay for lodging. All lodging requests must be made through the American Cancer Society, patients may not self-refer. Rooms are provided on a space-available basis. The American Cancer Society saves lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and encourage communities worldwide to join the fight. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.
