FERRARO’S SPOTLIGHTS SPRING MENU, WINES FROM BAROLO, ITALY’S

Ferraro’s Italian Restaurant and Wine Bar will celebrate the flavors of spring—the year’s most delectable season—at its next Taste & Learn event, to be held Saturday, March 25. Chef Francesco DiCaudo will prepare an evocative menu replete with to accompany this month’s wines from the historic E. Pira & Figli winery in Barolo, Italy. Known, of course, for the magnificent Nebbiolo grape Barolo is located in the Piedmont region produces some of the world’s most exquisite wines. The wine-and-food-pairing experience includes a guided tasting of four wines and takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. in the restaurant’s private dining room.

The menu pairings for the March 25 Taste & Learn include:

  • La Colombera “Derthona” Timorasso, 2012 with Ricciola in Tartare
    Amberjack tartar, fennel, blood orange, green tea
  • E. Pira & Figli, Dolcetto d’Alba, 2014, with Sfomatino Tiepido ai Carciofi
    Warm artichoke flan, castelmagno cheese fondue, duck prosciutto
  • E. Pira & Figli, Dolcetto d’Alba, 2013, with Tarjarin e Animelle
    Thirty Yolks Taglierini, mushroom and veal sweetbread ragu
  • E. Pira & Figli, Barolo, Cannubi, 2006, with Spezzatino d’Anatra
    Duck stew, sunchoke and cabbage


Under the direction of Gino Ferraro, Ferraro’s wine selection places special emphasis on presenting a broad and deep range of Italian wines, such as Barolo from Bartolo Mascarello, Bruno Giacosa and Giacomo Conterno; Barbaresco from Marchese dei Gresy and Produttori del Barbaresco; Brunello from Biondi Santi; Amarone from Bertani and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from Emidio Pepe. Ferraro’s has been recognized with Wine Spectator’s “Best of Award of Excellence” and the Wine Enthusiast award.
