- Blood, Sweat & Tears Featuring Bo Bice – May 4 at 8 p.m.
- Founder Al Kooper conceived Blood, Sweat and Tears as an experiment in expanding the size and scope of the rock band with touches of jazz, blues, classical, and folk music. When Kooper was forced out of the band soon after its eclectic debut, Child Is Father to the Man, BS&T became increasingly identified as a “jazz-rock” group, although its music was essentially easy-listening rhythm and blues or rock with the addition of brass. Now featuring American Idol’s Bo Bice on vocals, Blood, Sweat and Tears is better than ever.
- The Association – May 11 at 8 p.m.
- The Association was one of the more underrated groups to come out of the mid- to late ’60s. The group’s smooth harmonies and pop-oriented sound (which occasionally moved into psychedelia and, much more rarely, into a harder, almost garage-punk vein) made them regular occupants of the highest reaches of the pop charts for two years — their biggest hits, including “Along Comes Mary,” “Cherish,” “Windy,” and “Never My Love,” became instant staples of AM play lists.
- Sheila E. – May 18 at 8 p.m.
- During the mid-’80s, Sheila E. was the biggest and brightest of Prince’s protégées, unique in seeming that she could stand toe to toe with the Purple One. Certainly, during his post-Revolution tours of the late ’80s, Prince showcased Sheila E., the culmination of an association that began when Prince wrote and co-produced her 1984 breakthrough, “The Glamorous Life,” and duetted on “A Love Bizarre,” the 1985 follow-up that was her second-biggest hit. Sheila is a multi-talented performer, producer, composer, and an amazing instrumentalist.
- Eric Burdon & The Animals – May 25 at 8 p.m.
- Coined for their wild stage acts during the British Invasion, The Animals have rocked the music scene since 1962 with such hits as “The House of the Rising Sun,” “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place,” and “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.” Led by the gritty, bluesy sound of front man Eric Burdon, The Animals had ten Top Twenty hits in both the UK Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot 100 and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. They also received the Grammy Hall of Fame Award in both 1999 and 2011.
