The Mob Museum, The National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces its annual recognition of teachers and law enforcement officials with buy-one, get-one admission, along with other special programs taking place in May 2018:
Teacher Appreciation Week: Buy-one, Get-one Admission for Teachers, Educational Support Professionals with Valid I.D., Sunday, May 6 – Saturday, May 12, 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday; 9 a.m. to midnight Thursday through Saturday. Education remains the Museum’s most important function and it is honored to recognize teachers and all who work in education with this special admission rate.
Science of Crime: Using Biology and DNA to Decode a Crime, Saturday, May 12, 2-3 p.m. Each month, The Mob Museum and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Forensic Laboratory will present an in-depth look at the disciplines and sciences encompassing forensic analysis. This month’s program looks at the identification of biological materials, DNA analysis and the coordination of the local DNA database with the national system. This event is free with admission and for Museum Members and will take place in the Goodman Room on the Museum’s third floor.
Law Enforcement Appreciation Week: Buy-one, Get-one Admission for all Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement Professionals with Valid I.D., Sunday, May 13 – Saturday, May 19, 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday; 9 a.m. to midnight Thursday through Saturday. The Museum honors the brave men and women of our law enforcement agencies with special rates during this week of well-deserved recognition.
Wiseguy Speaker Series and Book Signing with Larry Mazza, author of personal Mob history memoir, “The Life,” Thursday, May 17, 7 p.m. In his book, Mazza tells his story of a fateful entanglement that led to his deep involvement in New York’s La Cosa Nostra. Mentored by Greg “The Grim Reaper” Scarpa, Mazza found himself immersed in the Colombo Family war, ultimately landing in prison. This event is free with admission and for Museum Members.
Book Signing with Daniel Simone, author of “The Pierre Hotel Affair,” Friday, May 18, 2 – 5 p.m. in the Museum retail store. At 4 a.m. on January 2, 1972, eight tuxedo-clad thieves executed the biggest unsolved jewel heist in American history inside this famous New York City hotel. Though some of the gang members were caught, none were convicted of this crime. There is no cost for events held in the Museum’s store.
Science of Crime: Recounting the 2001 Anthrax Attacks with Author R. Scott Decker, Saturday, May 19, 2 p.m. Just seven days after the horrific terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, a new wave of terror swept the nation as a handful of letters were dropped in the mail. In just over two weeks, five people had died and 18 were disfigured by the inhalation of the deadly white powder. Decker led the FBI team of hazmat specialists into New York City’s ground zero, then joined the Amerithrax Task Force to tackle the anthrax threat. This event is free with admission and for Museum Members and will take place in the Goodman Room on the Museum’s third floor.
Community Safety Forum: Self Defense and Personal Safety, Sunday, May 20, 2 to 3 p.m. The monthly Community Safety Forum, held in partnership with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and generously sponsored by NV Energy, will feature representatives from various law enforcement agencies eager to share information about their work and unique experiences in their fields. Registration is required. Community Safety Forums are always free and include admission to the Museum that day, courtesy of NV Energy.
