Hours: Wednesday – Sunday | 6 – 11PM

P3Studio
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas
3708 Las Vegas Boulevard South
Las Vegas, NV 89109

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, in partnership with Art Production Fund, is pleased to announce artist-in residence Lucas Michael. Michael’s project, Camera Obscura, anchors on the concept of exchange, both physical and emotional and features a Polaroid portrait studio, communal collage-making workshop and a solitary space where guests are invited to write a secret or personal thought on the wall to be obscured immediately by the artist.

Similar to his on-going project at the annual Golden Globes ceremony, Michael will invite guests to be photographed on Polaroid film. The guest will keep one portrait and the other will be displayed in P3Studio alongside a hashtag created by the guest. Next, guests are invited to write a message—something personal, a secret, a confidence—on a large piece of paper hung along the studio wall. Michael will then cover the messages with deep layers of graphite producing a glimmering “graffiti” wall that appears both freshly painted and scarred with hidden messages. Michael will also guide guests in the creation of a piece of art to take home with them at the communal collage-making table.

Born in Argentina, Michael now lives and works in New York. His artwork covers a variety of mediums from video and sculpture to performance and photography and has been shown both domestically and internationally, including the Getty Center in Los Angeles, the Danziger Gallery in New York, and the S.M.A.K. Museum in Belgium. Michael is a regular contributor to New York Magazine and co-founder, along with Eve Fowler of Artist Curated Projects, an artist-run-space in Los Angeles since 2008.

The artist-in-residence program at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas represents one component of its larger art program, in which artists create projects that are interactive and participatory, giving guests the opportunity to connect at an authentic and personal level. Developed and curated in partnership with Art Production Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to producing ambitious public art projects, it strives to reach new audiences and expand awareness through contemporary art.
