Registration Open for Stratosphere’s Operation Tower Climb
Saturday, October 26th

Registration is now open online at www.stratosphereclimbs.com for the first annual Operation Tower Climb event at the Stratosphere, where level-by-level, step-by-step, hundreds of participants will transform the Stratosphere Tower on Saturday, October 26, 2013, into a climb for the community. Cost for participation is $100 with net proceeds benefiting two local charities: American Red Cross – Southern Nevada Chapter Fire Hurts division and Operation Fire H.E.A.T. – a Holiday Emergency Assistance Team.

Operation Tower Climb is Stratosphere’s competitive stair climb for service men and women. Firefighters, police officers, military personnel and their families are encouraged to participate in this unique event. Awards will be presented based on division and weight classes. Participants and service individuals in full gear will climb 108 floors (1,455 stairs) to the indoor Observation deck of the Stratosphere Tower. A unique fixture in the Vegas skyline, Stratosphere’s tower at 1,149 ft is the tallest freestanding observation tower west of the Mississippi, featuring a 360° view finish line; making this a one-of-a-kind challenge for an adventuresome athlete or climbing enthusiast. All climbers must be 21 and older to participate. Space is limited, so early registration is advised.

“When we conceived of this event, our goal was to raise some funds and awareness for various local charity initiatives in the community, such as American Red Cross Fire Hurts division and Operation Fire H.E.A.T whose ongoing dedication to the community mirrors our own,” said Paul Hobson, Stratosphere’s General Manager. “To develop, manage and execute our own first annual Operation Tower Climb is a significant step for us as we branch out from host to organizer and we are excited for the event to be embraced by people who share our passion for being a partner in the community.”

“By collaborating with the Stratosphere, Southern Nevada families will receive much needed resources in those critical hours and days following a home fire,” said Jennifer Ramieh, Chief Development Officer, American Red Cross – Southern Nevada Chapter.

“We’re always looking to partner with various community organizations and businesses to assist us in our mission, so when the Stratosphere called to tell us of their event and that we’d been selected as a benefiting charity; we were excited to be involved,” said Fred Wechselberger, President of Operation Fire H.E.A.T.

About Operation Fire H.E.A.T. (Holiday Emergency Assistance Team): Operation Fire H.E.A.T replaces Christmas toys to children that have lost them during the holiday season due to a catastrophic fire. The team works closely with impacted family members and emergency response crews familiar with the family’s individual needs in an effort to bring back some of the hope and joy of the holiday season. Following such a devastating loss, they also try to provide necessities such as diapers, formula, toiletries, clothing and school supplies. After purchasing the toys and necessities, they deliver everything in the fire engine to wherever the family is staying. During the delivery, the children are given a very detailed guided tour of the fire engine and equipment firefighter’s use. This also allows firefighters to meet and interact with the affected children and the families personally.
