“Super Freestyle Explosion – 80’s Flashback” Brings Renowned Freestyle Artists to the Orleans Arena August 7

Ten freestyle artists will perform their chart-topping sensations on one stage during “Super Freestyle Explosion – 80’s Flashback” at the Orleans Arena on Aug. 7. The star-studded lineup includes hip hip, pop and R&B artists Stevie B, Exposé, Taylor Dayne, Lisa Lisa, The Cover Girls, Freestyle, Debbie Deb, Trinere, Nu Shooz and J.J. FAD.

Singer, songwriter and producer Stevie B was a freestyle pioneer in Miami in the late ‘80s. His #1 Billboard Hot 100 love lullaby, “Because I Love You (The Postman Song),” was one of many hits that took the Latin freestyle movement by storm and captured the hearts of music aficionados everywhere.

American vocal group Exposé will take the stage with original members Ann Curless, Jeanette Jurado and Gioia Bruno. The trio scored seven consecutive Billboard Top 10 hits within two years, peaking with their #1 ballad  “Season’s Change.”

With her platinum pop songs and award-winning dance music, Taylor Dayne is known as one of the most popular vocalists of the modern age. She solidified her legacy with more than 18 songs to reach the Billboard Top 100. Her best-known singles are “Love Will Lead You Back,” “Tell It To My Heart” and “I’ll Always Love You.”

Pop and R&B superstar Lisa Lisa was the first Latin artist to make it big nationwide. She produced five albums and sealed her fame in New York City’s thriving music scene. Her smash hit “I Wonder If I Take You Home” reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play.

Urban dance-pop trio The Original Cover Girls was one of the first groups to bring freestyle music to pop charts. Their debut album “Show Me” produced five Billboard Hot 100 chart entries including “Spring Love” and “Because of You.”

The group Freestyle is known for famed songs “The Party Has Just Begun,” “Don’t Stop The Rock” and “It’s Automatic.”

Debbie Deb became a musical prodigy at the young age of 16. Songs including “I’m Searching,” and “Look Out Weekend” are no strangers to Billboard’s Hot R&B and Hip-Hop Singles charts.

Trinere is a singer, songwriter and recording artist known for producing several major dance hits in the ‘80s and early ‘90s. Described by some as the ‘Queen of Freestyle,’ Trinere’s notable chart successes include album “Forever Yours,” which reached Billboard’s Top 40 Hot Black Albums and single “I’ll Be All You Ever Need” which placed on Billboard’s Hot Dance Singles and Hot Club Play charts in the summer of 1986.

Nu Shooz is an American freestyle R&B group that originated in Portland, Oregon. The husband and wife team of John Smith and Valerie Day are best known for their jams “I Can’t Wait” and “Should I Say Yes?”

The female rap group, J.J. FAD became the first female trio to receive a Grammy nomination for their album “Supersonic.” In 2009, J.J. FAD earned an American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Pop Music award for co-writing Fergie’s “Fergalicious.”
