FATHER’S LEGACY AT THE MOB MUSEUM, MAY 19
On Tuesday, May 19, The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, will host an eye-opening installment of its Wiseguy Speaker Series titled “Princess of the Desert Inn: Suzanne Dalitz.” Normally reserved for Mob Museum Members only, this Wiseguy Speaker Series event is open to the public. Entry for Members is free while non-members can attend at a cost of $30 per person. The presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the Museum’s courtroom.
As the daughter of renowned Las Vegas Mob figure Moe Dalitz, Suzanne Dalitz has devoted time to pondering her father’s legacy, as well as the contrasting qualities he embodied. At this event, Suzanne will share real, firsthand stories about growing up with her father, who was not only—as he once told her—“no angel,” but also a legitimate businessman.
Moe Dalitz’s early days included bootlegging during the Prohibition Era in Detroit and Cleveland and involvement in the Cleveland Syndicate. He first became part of Las Vegas history when he took over the Desert Inn in 1950 and, later, the Stardust Resort and Casino. One of the major figures who helped shape Las Vegas in the 20th century, Dalitz was often referred to as “Mr. Las Vegas” and is known for his contributions to the creation of the Las Vegas Country Club, Sunrise Hospital and Boulevard Mall.
As well as discussing her insights into her father and his influence on her life, Suzanne will also reveal how her involvement with the development of The Mob Museum incited her to examine her youth, start a memoir and look toward the future.
