UNLV men’s basketball senior Ike Nwamu has been selected to the slam dunk roster for the 28th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships, which will be held at Berry Center in Cypress, Texas, on Thursday, March 31.
The 6-foot-5-inch guard from Greensboro, N.C., is one of eight men’s college basketball players chosen for the event that will air live on ESPN at 6 p.m. PT. To participate, student-athletes must be a senior with no collegiate eligibility remaining.
Nwamu was invited to take part in the Slam Dunk Championship after being recognized among the nation’s finest slam dunk performers.
Nwamu played as a senior this season for the Runnin’ Rebels as a graduate transfer after previously attending Cleveland State and then Mercer. He appeared in all 33 of UNLV’s games in 2015-16, making 23 starts. He averaged 11.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
The event, which is produced by Intersport, invites 24 of the nation’s elite men’s and women’s college basketball seniors to compete (eight dunkers, along with eight men’s and eight women’s shooters).
In addition to Nwamu, the dunkers at this year’s event will include: Davidson’s Jordan Barham, Barry’s Yunio Barrueta, East Tenessee State’s Deuce Bello, Mary’s Devan Douglas, Tulsa’s Shaquille Harrison, Longwood’s Shaquille Johnson and Mississippi State’s Craig Sword.
The ESPN broadcast team includes Brad Nessler as play-by-play announcer, Sean Farnham as analyst and Shannon Spake on the sideline.
