The UNLV men’s basketball team, winner of four straight games, will continue its season-opening seven-game homestand on Wednesday, Nov. 28 vs. Valparaiso at 7:30 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center. The game is part of the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Conference Challenge.
The Runnin’ Rebels’ win streak consists of victories over UC Riverside (72-51), Oakland (74-61), Pacific (96-70) and Southern Utah (76-71).
The new Rebellion Student Lounge will be open Wednesday for current UNLV students starting at 4:30 p.m. It features free food, drinks and popcorn, TVs with live sporting events, and video game stations.
Tickets to Wednesday’s game may be purchased at UNLVtickets.com, by calling 702-739-FANS (3267) or by visiting the Thomas & Mack Center Box Office. Season tickets, group tickets and a five-game plan are also available.
The 2018-19 season marks the third under head coach Marvin Menzies for the Runnin’ Rebels. UNLV returned seven student-athletes who saw action last season, which is the most for the program from the previous season in seven years. This year’s team added two transfer redshirts and six freshmen. Last year, UNLV won 20 games for the first time in four years. It also marked a nine-game improvement in the win column from the previous season.
The Runnin’ Rebels (4-1) have three players averaging in double-figure scoring: senior forward Shakur Juiston (12.0 ppg), senior guard Kris Clyburn (11.6 ppg) and sophomore forward Mbacke Diong (10.2 ppg). Juiston also leads the team in rebounding (8.4 rpg), while Diong (6.8 rpg) is second. Senior guard Noah Robotham is the team’s assist leader (4.2 apg).
Valparaiso (3-3) has split its last two games: a 75-70 overtime win vs. SIUE and an 88-76 loss at West Virginia. Four Crusaders are scoring in double figures, led by Derrik Smits’ 13.7 ppg.
Wednesday’s game will be televised by AT&T SportsNet with Nick Gismondi and Dave Bollwinkel calling the action. Jon Sandler, former Runnin’ Rebel Robert Smith, and Steve Cofield (sideline reporter) will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM and online via the UNLV Gameday App and TuneIn (link at UNLVRebels.com).
