Bank of Nevada Announces Scholarship Recipient

Lorena Sarabia, a senior at Chaparral High School, has been awarded the 2017 Bank of Nevada Forward Together Scholarship. Sarabia has a 3.5 GPA and plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas next year.

Sarabia was chosen as the scholarship recipient based on academic skill, grade point average, community service efforts and essay. Sarabia wrote a compelling essay about growing up in a Hispanic family and facing adversity as a young, gay female. Sarabia is a member of the G.S.A. (Gay-Straight Alliance) Club, J.A.G. (Jobs for America’s Graduates), Fulfillment Fund, and the 2016 National Student Leadership Academy.

Sarabia was officially presented with her $3,000 scholarship on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at the Public Education Foundation Scholarship Recognition Luncheon. This is the sixth year the Forward Together Scholarship has been offered to a Clark County School District student by Bank of Nevada, a division of Western Alliance Bank.

“I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to Lorena for winning this scholarship,” said John Guedry, CEO, Bank of Nevada, and a former graduate of Chaparral High School. “Lorena’s desire to pursue education and become a teacher is truly inspiring and we wish her the best of luck in her academic pursuits.”
