BASKETBALL STAR CARMELO ANTHONY PARTICIPATES IN LOCAL YOUTH BASKETBALL CLINIC IN A PARTNERSHIP WITH SANDS CARES AND JEROME WILLIAMS’ JYD PROJECT
A partnership between Sands Cares™ – the corporate citizenship program of The Venetian® and The Palazzo® Las Vegas – and Jerome Williams’ JYD Project created a unique event for local youth to meet basketball star Carmelo Anthony. While Anthony was recently in Las Vegas, he stopped by the Valley View Recreation Center for the basketball clinic.
“For me to be able to come here and be involved with the kids and talk to the kids and answer their questions, hear what they have to say, and see their work ethic…I’m astonished by that,” said Carmelo Anthony.
Fifty of the local youth participated in the clinic, where they worked on basketball techniques including dribbling, shooting, and passing. Anthony stopped by each clinic station, taking time to give some tips to the participants. After the drills, Anthony fielded questions in a Q&A session where he was asked about the hard work it took to get to the professional level and playing on the 2008 Olympic basketball team. He then signed autographs and took pictures with the attendees.
