BATTLEBOTS: DESTRUCT-A-THON will host middle school students from the Clark County School District’s Girls in STEM program on Thursday, April 6. More than 30 girls from Cashman Middle School will partake in a full tour of the BattleBots Arena. The field trip will feature the opportunity for girls to explore new ideas, develop technical skills and cultivate interest in STEM education and workforce development while designing their very own combat robots. Students will collaborate with each other and receive guidance from Shea Johns, a BattleBots professional from the Triton team, before presenting their robot designs to show executives.

BATTLEBOTS: DESTRUCT-A-THON has partnered with CCSD’s Cynthia Cunningham Elementary School to provide local students with opportunities to view STEM science in action. On Friday, March 24, more than 50 children and their parents from the school witnessed live robot-on-robot combat utilizing creativity, teamwork, engineering and innovation. On March 31, a second group of 150 students and parents from Cunningham Elementary attended the thrilling show while witnessing the complexity of robotics on display.

“As the world leader in the fast-growing sport of robot fighting, we are thrilled to inspire students of all ages to get excited about STEM-related fields,” said Edward “Trey” Roski, co-founder and chief executive officer, BattleBots. “We are proud to foster a culture of innovation and creativity that positively influences the next generation of STEM professionals.”

Adds Tom Gutteridge, executive producer, BattleBots, “Research has shown that a girl’s confidence in her academic ability continues to decline from elementary school to high school, especially in the science, technology, engineering and math disciplines. BattleBots seeks to provide girls and young women with STEM experiences that encourage and promote their skills and interests in these subjects. We want to ensure our future BattleBots teams are well represented amongst both boys and girls.”
