Boyd Gaming Contributes $150,000 to Nonprofit Organizations Providing Much-Needed Services to Local Veterans and Seniors

Boyd Gaming today announced it has contributed a combined $150,000 to two Southern Nevada nonprofit organizations providing critical services to the community.

Boyd Gaming donated $75,000 to U.S.VETS – Las Vegas, the largest provider of housing and support services for veterans experiencing homelessness in Southern Nevada. The organization operates 300 beds of transitional and permanent housing, as well as financial assistance programs supporting approximately 500 veteran households each year. The nonprofit also offers a workforce development program that assists 100 veterans with returning to employment annually, and provides mental health and wellness services.

“The pandemic has left veterans facing financial hardship, and in need of more support for their physical and mental health. Our organization has also been challenged with additional costs to implement an extensive list of new protocols in response to COVID-19,” said Shalimar Cabrera, Executive Director of U.S.VETS – Las Vegas. “Thanks to Boyd Gaming’s donation, we are able to sustain new safety measures, purchase additional supplies and increase vital services, including adding a nurse to our staff who will support veterans who call our programs their home.”

The Company also contributed $75,000 to Helping Hands of Vegas Valley, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for senior citizens and their families through a variety of essential programs and services available at no cost, including a senior transportation program, food pantry, home maintenance and minor home repairs services, and a respite care program.

“On behalf of Helping Hands of Vegas Valley, we’d like to express our gratitude for Boyd Gaming’s generous donation. This support will enable our organization to continue to provide services to the most vulnerable population during these unprecedented times – senior citizens,” said Marcia Blake, Executive Director of Helping Hands of Vegas Valley. “Boyd Gaming’s contribution and continued support will yield an impactful change in our gently aging community, helping us to fulfill the immediate needs of our clients. Our hearts are beyond grateful.”

The latest contributions are part of Boyd Gaming’s continued efforts to support local nonprofit organizations, providing the Southern Nevada community with integral services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In October, the Company donated $150,000 to Three Square to support its continued fight against food insecurity in Southern Nevada, allowing the nonprofit to provide an additional 450,000 meals to Valley residents struggling with hunger. Boyd Gaming also contributed $150,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada to help advance their distance learning support and all-day youth services across the Las Vegas Valley.
