El Cortez Hotel & Casino will begin its 70th anniversary celebrations with a wine walk and special viewing of the film “Bugsy” on the Jackie Gaughan Parkway on Friday, May 27 at 7 p.m.

Admission to the wine walk is $20 per person, and the event will feature a large selection of wines from California, Oregon, Washington State and Europe. Featured wineries will include Constellation featuring Clos Du Bois and Woodbridge, Bronco Wine Co., Trinchero featuring Menage A Trois, Chateau St. Michelle, Moet Hennessy USA, Francis Coppola Winery, Ferrari Carano and Pernod Ricard featuring Jacobs Creek, Mumm Napa, Graffigna and Brancott. Additionally, Lulu’s On The Move food truck will be on The Jackie Gaughan Parkway to offer guests a delicious selection of dining options.

“Bugsy,” starring Warren Beatty and directed by Barry Levinson, is the story of notorious mobster Bugsy Siegel’s rise and fall in Las Vegas. The film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Director and Best Actor in a Supporting Role. The film will begin promptly at 9 p.m.

Siegel once owned the El Cortez in the 1940s before selling the property to J.K. Houssels. Downtown Las Vegas pioneer Jackie Gaughan then bought the property from Houssels in 1963, and he owned the legendary hotel-casino until 2008.
