Freeman Vineyard & Winery “Meet the Winemaker”
at Morels French Steakhouse & Bistro at The Palazzo
Event scheduled for Thursday, May 19
Morels French Steakhouse & Bistro today announced it has partnered with Freeman Vineyard & Winery for the next “Meet the Winemaker” event on Thursday, May 19 from 6:30 p.m. until close.
During this event, guests can meet Associate Winemaker for Freeman, Eric Buffington, and sample two of the vineyard’s wines:
Chardonnay, Ryo-Fu 2008: The 2008 Ryo-fu Chardonnay has much in common with the acclaimed 2006 vintage, echoing the same ripe, inviting aromas and the full, luscious palate that made the earlier version so sought-after. The ’08 Ryo-fu starts with a nose of baked apples, nutmeg, mangoes and almonds. Following these inviting aromas is a mouthfeel framed by good acidity, but dominated by ripe and delicious fruit. Even the well-integrated oak gets pushed into the finish behind the rich abundance on the palate. Available by the glass ($22) and bottle ($90) at Morels;
Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast, 2008: As it seems to be almost every year, the 2008 Freeman Sonoma Coast is the darkest, most powerful and largest-framed of the Freeman lineup of four Pinot Noirs. The nose is dominated by spicy, slow-ripening Pinot Noir aromas, with hints of violets and roses. Though somewhat similar on the palate to the ’08 Russian River Valley bottling, the Sonoma Coast offers higher acidity and firmer tannins. Available by the glass ($22) and bottle ($90) at Morels.
“I have always been a fan of the wines Freeman creates,” said Alexandre Brard, wine director for Morels. “I look forward to introducing our guests to this vineyard and having them experience two of my favorites offered by them.”
There is no cost to attend the tasting.
About Freeman Vineyard & Winery: Founded by Ken and Akiko Freeman, Freeman Vineyard & Winery is dedicated to crafting elegant cool-climate California Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in a sophisticated Burgundian style. Believing in the vast potential of the Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley appellations to produce wines of complexity and refinement, the Freemans work with a small portfolio of acclaimed partner vineyards including Keefer and Heintz ranches. In addition, the Freemans have a seven acres estate vineyard at their picturesque winery in Sebastopol and fourteen acres at their Occidental vineyard, Freeman Ranch – both are planted with Pinot Noir. These sites share many common elements that define excellence in cool-climate viticulture, including hillside locations with coastal fog, Goldridge soils, proper clonal selection and stressed vines producing extremely low yields of nuanced fruit.
