Fremont Street Experience is hosting the official Zappos.com Rock `n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon Kick-Off Party presented by Michelob Ultra and KOMP 92.3 featuring a free concert by Australian rock band Sick Puppies, Friday, Nov. 30 at 9 p.m. on the 3rd Street Stage.

“The Zappos.com Rock `n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon is a spectacular special event for Las Vegas and with the course now going through downtown it only makes sense to have the kick-off celebration at Fremont Street Experience,” said Jeff Victor, president at Fremont Street Experience. “We welcome all race participants – and the general public – to come down and enjoy the free concert and party a couple nights before their rockin’ race.”

The Zappos.com Rock `n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon & ½ Marathon to benefit the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America scheduled for Sunday, December 2 and will begin on the Strip, wind through downtown Las Vegas and back. Kick-off party sponsors include: Fremont Street Experience, the D Las Vegas Casino Hotel, KOMP 92.3, Michelob Ultra and Zappos.com.

“Over the past four years we have worked to encapsulate everything the city of Las Vegas has to offer into this marquee event, which has truly become a citywide 26.2-mile block party,” said Adam Zocks, Vice President of Competitor Group, organizer of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. “This year, not only will marathon runners be able to enjoy the excitement of running under the canopy at the Fremont Street Experience, but all race participants can enjoy one of Las Vegas’ signature icons Friday night at a kick-off party you won’t want to miss.”

The 2012 event will feature new marathon and half-marathon courses with a mid-strip finish line location on Las Vegas Boulevard, adjacent to Caesars Palace and the Mirage Resort. The new finish line venue is conveniently located less than one mile from over 15 resorts, allowing participants a short walk back to their respective hotel after completing the event.

Among the other improvements from previous events include new start times at 3:00 pm for the marathon and 4:30 pm for the half-marathon. Both courses will merge together at approximately mile 11 (half-marathon) and mile 24 (marathon). A separate marathon-only lane will be maintained for the last 2 miles of the course through the use of fixed barricades, providing clear separation athletes competing in each distance.

In true Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon fashion, live bands will perform at every mile along the course. The Las Vegas event is also renowned for hundreds of running Elvi and its run-through wedding chapel where runners in love can tie the knot or rekindle their romance on their way to the finish line.
