Get riled up for the 2013 Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl during the official Pep Rally taking place on Friday, Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. at Fremont Street Experience. All are welcome to celebrate this bowl season with a free pre-game event under the neon lights. This year’s battle “Royal” features Mountain West Conference Champion, Fresno State University Bulldogs, facing off with one of college football’s most storied programs and member of the Pac-12 Conference, University of Southern California Trojans. Fans, alumni and sports enthusiasts alike are invited to make their way to Fremont Street Experience to support their team during a free Pep Rally alongside the Fresno State and Southern California coaches, school bands, cheerleaders and mascots. The 2013 festivities will include: interactive contests; a battle of the college bands; and performances from the cheerleaders. The Pep Rally will take place on Fremont Street Experience’s 1st Street Stage, next to Golden Nugget Las Vegas and Binion’s Gambling Hall & Hotel.
Fresno State University, which accepted its bid Saturday night after winning the inaugural Mountain West Championship game, 24-17, over Utah State, will return to this city for the first time since playing Utah in the 1999 Las Vegas Bowl.
University of Southern California comes into the bowl after finishing in a tie for second place in the Pac-12 South Division with a league mark of 6-3. The Trojans have played here just once before when they played Utah on Christmas Day in 2001.
This will mark the third meeting between the two California programs and the second in the postseason. Fresno State downed USC 24-7 in the 1992 Freedom Bowl in Anaheim and the Trojans beat the Bulldogs 50-42 at home in a regular-season game on Nov. 19, 2005.
The Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl, owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television (ERT), will be played Saturday, Dec. 21, at 12:30 p.m. PT and aired on ABC.
