Goodwill Debuts New Clearance & Distribution Center on Earth Day, April 22, 2014

New Facility at Dean Martin Drive & Warm Springs Created 20 Jobs

Goodwill of Southern Nevada will introduce its second Clearance Center, located at 7570 Dean Martin Drive Suite 603-606 (between Warm Springs and Blue Diamond), to Valley thrift shoppers, wholesalers and re-sellers on Earth Day, April 22, 2014.

The 46,000 square foot facility also serves as a new distribution center for the nonprofit. By adding another distribution center – one on each end of the Valley – Goodwill can lower logistics costs and become even more efficient. Goodwill’s existing distribution center and clearance center is located at 1280 W. Cheyenne Ave. (at MLK) in North Las Vegas.

“Goodwill has always been green,” said Alyn Reeves, COO of Goodwill of Southern Nevada. “This new Dean Martin Drive facility will not only allow our Goodwill to give donated goods one more chance to be re-used and re-purposed, but also significantly reduce the amount of fuel we use in transporting donated goods around the Valley.”

Goodwill of Southern Nevada’s Clearance Center model makes shopping in bulk easier and more affordable, while providing one more life cycle for donated goods to be purchased. Instead of a traditional shopping experience, consumers fill carts with goods from tables full of merchandise that have been rotated out of Goodwill’s existing retail stores, or items that did not meet Goodwill’s strict quality standards for goods sold in Goodwill’s traditional retail stores. Those carts will be placed on a scale at check out and customers will be charged for the items according to weight or quantity.

Clothing, shoes, hard goods and other textiles will sell for $1.20 per pound for the first 19 pounds, $0.99 per pound for twenty to 49 pounds, and $0.69 per pound for fifty or more pounds. All books and media will sell for $0.50 each, and glass items will be sold three for $0.99. Large items such as furniture, televisions and bicycles will be individually priced at deeply discounted rates. Merchandise will be constantly rotated in and out throughout the day.

By creating a second distribution center and clearance center, Goodwill created twenty new jobs in Southern Nevada. And like all Goodwill stores, revenue from the new Clearance Center will fund local job placement and training programs. Last year, Goodwill of Southern Nevada helped a record 2,000 people find employment.

Due to its model of re-use, Goodwill of Southern Nevada helped keep 33 million pounds of goods out of local landfills in 2013.
