LADY REBELS START TITLE DEFENSE AGAINST WYOMING
UNLV hosts Wyoming Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
UNLV women’s basketball begins its Mountain West championship title defense Thursday night against Wyoming.
UNLV (10-2) and Wyoming (7-4) tip off at 6:30 p.m. at the Cox Pavilion.
The Lady Rebels and Cowgirls have had close battles in recent seasons with four of the last five games decided by single digits. UNLV is 8-0 at home this season while Wyoming is 1-3 away from Laramie.
Mountain West Player of the Week Desi-Rae Young leads the Lady Rebels following a 30-point, 14-rebound performance in a 93-73 victory over Northern Arizona. At the conclusion of non-conference play, Young is the league’s scoring leader with 18.6 points per game.
UNLV looks to put the brakes on Wyoming’s leading scorer Quinn Weidemann. In eight career games against the Lady Rebels, Weidemann has averaged 12.5 points, 49 percent 3-point field goal shooting and has hit 18-of-19 free throws.

Taking a page from Lindy La Rocque’s 2022-23 yearbook, Wyoming’s Heather Ezell, is a brand new mother. The first-year head coach gave birth to daughter Dylan on Dec. 21. La Rocque’s first child, Ellie Mae Cunningham, was born Nov. 3.
Young Becomes UNLV’s 26th 1,000-Point Scorer
Desi-Rae Young became the 26th player to score 1,000 points as a Lady Rebel. She reached the milestone in her 69th career game, the fifth-fewest in program history, when she scored a career-high 30 points to lead UNLV to a 93-73 win over Northern Arizona (Dec. 21). Only four Lady Rebels have reached 1,000 points in fewer games (Linda Frohlich, Pauline Jordan, Debra Waddy, Randee Henry). Two-time All-American Misty Thomas (1983-86) also reached 1,000 points in her 69th collegiate game.
