UNLV HOSTS AZTECS ON PLAY4KAY DAY…
Saturday is the annual Play4Kay Day at UNLV, and the Lady Rebels will be wearing pink jerseys to show their support for breast cancer awareness when they host San Diego State at 3 pm in the Cox Pavilion.
Fans that wear pink to the game will receive $3 admission, while the first 100 fans will also receive a free pink drink koozie.
Single game ticket prices for the Lady Rebels this season are $8 for adults, $5 if bought online at UNLVTickets.com, while kids 12 and under are free at all UNLV Lady Rebel home contests.
The game will be live streamed on the Mountain West with Wyatt Tomchek on the play by play, and there will also be a radio broadcast with the call of Adam Candee. Both will be available through UNLVRebels.com.
The race for the Mountain West regular season title could not be any closer, as five teams all have 10 wins each entering the final five games of the league schedule. UNLV and Wyoming have the advantage with 10-3 marks, ahead of Colorado State, Wyoming and Boise State, all at 10-4. That gives the Lady Rebels no room for error in their quest for the conference championship.
UNLV is looking for its second sweep of the Aztecs in the past three years, following a 75-64 victory at San Diego on Jan. 27. The Lady Rebels trailed by 18 points in the first half before reeling off a 23-0 run on the way to the victory. They have won the last four in Las Vegas against the Aztecs as well, with SDSU’s last road win in the series coming on Jan. 16, 2013. SDSU meanwhile is just 2-6 on the road this year, and 1-5 in league play.
The Lady Rebels’ success in the conference this season has been fueled by its outstanding post play. UNLV has outscored its past 11 opponents 384-214 on points in the paint while holding a +8.4 rebound margin for the 11 contests. That size shows up even more on the offensive boards, where UNLV is rebounding an impressive 38.9% of its missed shots in MW play. The Lady Rebels are also finding their way to the free throw line, and are currently tied for 18th in the nation with 389 made free throws this season.
