Here we go again. 51s are unable to beat Omaha today, but El Paso also lost so Las Vegas is one more game closer to that 2014 Divisional Title. The Good News. The team gets to clinch at home! Hope everyone makes there way to the games when the 51s return on Wednesday.

The Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, will open their final homestand of the regular season (eight games) on Wednesday, August 20 against the New Orleans Zephyrs, Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, at Cashman Field at 7:05 p.m. The four-game series against the Zephyrs will conclude on Saturday, August 23. Las Vegas will then host the Round Rock Express, Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, in a four-game series from Sunday-Wednesday, August 24-27. All games on the homestand will begin at 7:05 p.m. The 51s are playing a stretch of 16 straight games against the American Conference (August 12-27).

 

The 51s, under second-year manager Wally Backman, are concluding an eight-game “Midwest” road trip (3-4 record) in Omaha, Neb., against the Storm Chasers, Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, on Tuesday evening.

 

The “first place” 51s have the second-best record in the 16-team PCL with a 72-59 mark (.550) and lead second-place El Paso (61-69) by 10.5 games in the Pacific Southern Division. The Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, have the best record in the 14-team International League with a 74-54 (.578) mark.

 

51s MAGIC NUMBER – Las Vegas’ magic number to clinch its second straight Pacific Conference Southern Division championship is 4 (Any combination of four Las Vegas victories or El Paso losses & 3 to clinch a tie, Las Vegas won the season series vs. El Paso, 9-games-to-7).

 

51s Playoff Tickets for the PCL Conference Championship Series (Wednesday-Thursday, September 3-4 at Cashman Field) will go on sale on Monday, August 25 at the Cashman Field Box Office at Noon and tickets can also be purchased through Ticketmaster (1-800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com). 2014 ATTENDANCE: In 63 dates, Las Vegas’ total is 295,498 for an average of 4,690. Las Vegas franchise is 4,502 fans shy of reaching the 300,000 plateau in “home” attendance for the 32nd consecutive season (1983-2014) and the all-time attendance total now stands at 10,610,278. Las Vegas’ season-high crowd, which includes four sellouts, was 11,133 vs. Salt Lake for the “Fireworks Extravaganza” on July 3 at Cashman Field. The 51s organization have the proud distinction of being the longest enduring franchise in the history of professional sports in the state of Nevada.

 

ARCO Value Days will be featured in two games of the homestand on Wednesday, August 20 and Tuesday, August 26. Fans can receive 2-for-1 tickets and $5 in Cosmo Bucks with proof of gas purchase from ARCO. Tickets must be purchased at the America First Credit Union Box Office at Cashman Field with a proof of purchase from ARCO.

 

Budweiser Dollar Beer Night will be featured in game two of the four-game series against New Orleans on Thursday, August 21. Proper identification and wristbands are required for dollar beer night.

 

A spectacular post-game “Fireworks Show” will be featured on Friday, August 22. The Fallen Heroes Softball Game benefitting Candlelighters will be played from 5 – 6 p.m. The Nellis Air Force Base Softball Team will face the Clark County Law Enforcement Heroes Remembered Team.

 

51s Pinstripe Jersey (Mets Style) Night, to the first 2,500 fans through the gates, will be featured in the finale of the series on Saturday, August 23 on Fan Appreciation Night.

 

The 51s organization will also partner with The Dave Rice Foundation on Saturday, August 23. The Dave Rice Foundation is a non-profit, tax exempt organization dedicated to the education and support of health initiatives including developmental disorders such as Autism, and other charitable causes. The Foundation was established in 2012 by UNLV Runnin’ Rebels Head Basketball Coach Dave Rice and his wife, Mindy.

 

“The Dave Rice Foundation is excited to partner with the Las Vegas 51s,” said Dave Rice. “We are grateful to the 51s and their fans for helping us support many families in Southern Nevada affected by Autism.”

 

Fans will have an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets that will include “Ultimate UNLV Runnin’ Rebels Basketball Fan Experience” – UNLV Basketball signed by the men’s coaching staff and a behind-the-scenes experience to a UNLV men’s practice as a VIP Guest of Coach Dave Rice. The 51s will also have a “Team Signed” jersey for the raffle. Each donation will include a Dave Rice Foundation wristband, while supplies last.

 

Dave’s son, Dylan, will “throw out” the ceremonial first pitch at Saturday’s game.

 

Rice, a member of the 1990 UNLV National Championship team, has a UNLV career record of 71-32 (.689). The 71 wins ranks as the second-most in the first three years by a head coach in UNLV men’s basketball history (Hall of Famer Jerry Tarkanian is first with 73 victories).

 

New Orleans’ roster features three of the top 10 prospects in the Marlins organization, according to Baseball America: Top prospect, left-handed pitcher Andrew Heaney; right-handed pitcher Anthony DeSclafini (No. 5), left-handed pitcher Brian Flynn (No. 6) and left-handed pitcher Adam Conley (No. 8).

 

“Smith’s Value Menu Monday” will be presented in game two of the four-game series against the Express on August 25. Monday “home” games will feature a “Value Menu” for the sixth straight season. The 51s and Aramark have teamed together for discounted food items on Hot Dogs, Popcorn, Peanuts, Cracker Jacks and Pretzels for just $1.00 per item.

 

Round Rock’s roster features three of the top 10 prospects in the Rangers organization, according to Baseball America: Outfielder Michael Choice (No. 3); shortstop Luis Sardinas (No. 7) and right-handed pitcher Luke Jackson (No. 8).

 

The 51s will broadcast all games on Lotus Broadcasting on Sports 920 (AM) The Game, which will carry live all 144 regular season games. Also, all games will be available on the 51s website (Major League Baseball Advanced Media, MLBAM) at www.LV51.com. Russ Langer, the nine-time Nevada Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA), is in his 15th season behind the microphone calling 51s baseball.

Following the homestand, the 51s will embark on their final road trip of the 2014 regular season to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Las Vegas will face the Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, in a four-game series from Thursday-Monday, August 28 – September 1 (Labor Day, end of regular season).

The individual game tickets for the 72-game home season are priced at $10.00 (reserved, $11.00-Day of Game); $13.00 (plaza, $14.00-Day of Game) and $14.00 (field, $15.00-Day of Game) & the blue dugout seats at $25.00. The traditional $2.00 discount for Military personnel is offered on plaza and reserved seats throughout the season except for the “Fireworks Extravaganza” that was held on Thursday, July 3 (all seats were $15.00 for that special event).
