Education Non-Profit CORE is Growing
With the launch of the new sites at Brinley Middle School and Democracy Prep, CORE is expanding to meet the increasing need in the community

Local education non-profit CORE is grounded in the notion that under-resourced children can achieve a high level of success when provided with sufficient tools and opportunities. Today, CORE is excited to announce that their program originally established at West Preparatory Academy is now growing with the launch of new sites at Brinley Middle School and Democracy Prep at the Agassi Campus, along with the expansion of programs at West Preparatory.
The impact of CORE on the Scholars, families, and community is profound – particularly in the zip codes that CORE serves. Proudly reflecting a 100% high school graduation rate, Scholars in the program achieve a wide range of positive outcomes including increased GPA, higher rates of promotion to the next grade, higher high school graduation rates, and higher acceptance rates into college/vocational school. Multi-tiered supports for parents from program staff and community partners allows families to better meet their fundamental needs, letting Scholars stay on track for school.
“We fully recognize that the most powerful way to ensure economic mobility and equity is to invest in children and their families over a long-term period of time,” said Founder and Chief Executive Officer Lindsay Harper. “The program model of CORE improves the academic, social, and emotional development of students (Scholars) while mitigating the economic and educational inequities faced by their families. We are thrilled to introduce the program to Democracy Prep and to have reaffirmed our partnership with the Clark County School District to bring this evidence-based, two-generational program design to Brinley and to serve an even greater number of families at West Prep.”
Dedicated to ensuring historically underserved students and their families achieve economic mobility and lead choice-filled lives, the CORE model focuses on a long-term cohort of students/families from 6th grade through 12th grade. Scholars participate in the afterschool, weekend, and summer programming to enhance their academic, social-emotional, and leadership skills. Concurrently, their families work with CORE staff to develop support networks, continue their own education, and enhance the skills necessary to be successful in the workplace. After graduation, Scholars are engaged with CORE through an Alumni Network to ensure that they stay on track and reach their full potential. The entire CORE Scholar experience is provided free of charge to participating families.
“Introducing new schools to CORE and growing the programs at West Prep is great news for the community,” added Executive Director Jeff Jones. “We want to enable our Scholars to develop and mature with the equitable tools, resources, and experiences necessary to be healthy, contributing, and empowered adults.”
