Mayor Carolyn Goodman attended ribbon-cutting ceremony

Local non-profit, Create A Change Now joined by Mayor Carolyn Goodman and Whole Foods Market unveiled the “Whole Foods Garden” on Monday, Dec. 3 at Ruby Thomas Elementary School. The edible garden contains a variety of vegetables including: kale, broccoli, carrots, onions, cauliflower and more.

The garden unveiling kicked off with special guest Mayor Carolyn Goodman congratulating the students of Ruby Thomas Elementary School on the hard work put into the garden and speaking about the importance of eating healthy. Melissa Blynn, executive director of Create a Change Now introduced the businesses who helped make the garden possible including: Whole Foods Market, Garden Farms LV Rock, We care We Share as well as Soil Tech and explained the nonprofit’s mission to fight childhood obesity. Students from Ruby Thomas Elementary School presented all five organizations with a special thank you and identified the vegetables growing in the edible garden.

The garden was made possible with Whole Foods’ donation raised at “Community Support Day.” “Community Support Day” was held On Tuesday, April 10 at all four Whole Foods Market Las Vegas locations. Five percent of the net sales from the day were donated to Create A Change Now. Additional sponsors involved in making the garden possible include: Soil Tech and Garden Farms

Create A Change Now is a non-profit organization that fights childhood obesity by educating children on healthy eating habits by aiming to teach elementary school students how to plant edible gardens. By partnering with local chefs to teach students how to prepare and cook the food they harvest Create A Change Now encourages a hands-on approach in the kitchen.
