SOUNDWAVES Poolside Concert Series Debuts At Hard Rock Hotel & Casino


Hard Rock Hotel & Casino unveils SOUNDWAVES, a summer poolside concert series, with a performance by Stephen Marley at 9 p.m. on Friday, June 10.

Located in the Hard Rock Beach Club, SOUNDWAVES highlights some of today’s hottest bands and artists in a unique and intimate setting. Guests can enjoy the acts as well as the party scene from in front of the stage or chill to the sounds of the performers from a VIP cabana. The initial launch of SOUNDWAVES poolside concert series consists of Stephen Marley (June 10), Toots and the Maytals (June 15), Kenny Wayne Shepherd (July 30), Matisyahu (Aug. 6) and Collective Soul (Sept. 10). Additional bands and artists will be announced at a later date. The current lineup of shows at SOUNDWAVES is on sale Friday, May 6 at noon.

Son of Bob Marley, Reggae’s most transcendent and iconic figure, Stephen Marley helps kick off the debut of SOUNDWAVES at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Friday, June 10. The son of the music legend began performing when he was only six years old. In his early career, Stephen played guitar, sang and occasionally wrote songs for Melody Makers, his brother Ziggy’s band. To satisfy his creative interests, Stephen became familiar behind the scenes of the music industry, doing production for his brothers Damian and Julian. His production work with Damian’s Halfway Tree helped him win a Grammy Award for “Best Reggae” album. Stephen debuted Mind Control in March 2007, an acoustic online version was released in 2008 with the album hitting stores in 2009. Stephen has worked with The Fugees, Eve, Krayzie Bone, Erykah Badu and may others. His latest album was released in early 2011.

Toots and the Maytals

Best known for their ska and reggae vocal talents, Jamaican musical group Toots and the Maytals takes over the SOUNDWAVES stage at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Wednesday, June 15. Formed in the early 1960s, Toots and the Maytals have helped to chart the course of Jamaican music with unrivaled delivery and dynamism, setting new standards of excellence and becoming the most enduring of all Jamaica’s groups. The band has been nominated for three Grammy Awards for albums Skafather, Toots in Memphis, and Toots Live. Other notable achievements include a Guinness World Record for shortest time between the recording and release of a live album, only Jamaican group to have both sides of an album become No. 1 on the charts and numerous No. 1 hits.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd

Blues rocker Kenny Wayne Shepherd performs poolside at SOUNDWAVES at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Saturday, July 30. Shepherd exploded on the music scene in the mid-‘90s and garnered huge amounts of radio play. He released his first album Ledbetter Heights in 1995 which sold more than 500,000 copies by early 1996. Ledbetter Heights impressed the music industry with its range of styles including acoustic blues, rock blues, Texas blues and Louisiana blues. He released Trouble is… in 1998, earning a Grammy Award nomination, released Live On a year later and The Play You’re In in 2004. Shepherd has since filmed a documentary, a story about his trip across the South with a portable recording studio. In 2010, he released his latest album Live! In Chicago.

Groundbreaking artist Matisyahu performs at SOUNDWAVES at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Saturday, Aug. 6. In 2004, Matisyahu emerged with his debut album Shake Off The Dust…Arise. The unconventional artist raps about the glories of traditional Judaism over reggae beats. Throughout his career, Matisyahu has garnered Grammy Award nominations including “Best Reggae Album,” numerous gold records and a broad and faithful fanbase.
