American rock duo Steely Dan to perform at the Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at 9 p.m. as part of the Shuffle Diplomacy tour.

Steely Dan’s popularity peaked in the late 1970’s with core members Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. They have continued their success with the release of seven albums, including the Grammy Award-winning, Two Against Nature, by blending jazz, rock, pop, funk and R&B paired with the duos sarcasm and puzzling lyrics.

In 1975 they became a purely studio-based act releasing a series of successful singles and albums. Well-known for their perfectionism in the recording studio, it took more than a year to record the tracks that resulted in 1980’s Gaucho. During the summer of 1981, Becker and Fagen announced that they were parting ways. The following year, Fagen released his solo debut, The Nightfly, which became a commercial hit. He did not record another album until 1993, when he reunited with Becker, who produced Kamakiriad. During their time apart they maintained a cult like fan base and in 1993 the group resumed playing live concerts.

Steely Dan mounted another reunion tour in 1994 and in early 2000 the duo issued Two Against Nature, their first new studio album in two decades, which landed them a Grammy Award for Album of the Year. They have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2001 and Everything Must Go followed in 2003. Fagen’s solo album, Morph the Cat, was released in 2006 and Becker released Circus Money in 2008.
