About the Hollywood Foreign Press Association
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) was founded in 1943 as the Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association (HFCA) by a group of entertainment journalists representing world media in Hollywood, who realized the need to unite and organize to gain the recognition and access to studios and talent accorded to the domestic press. All qualified journalists were accepted, with the bold goal of “Unity Without Discrimination of Religion or Race.” A year later, the HFCA created the Golden Globe Awards which, to this day, the entire membership selects, votes on and awards every year for outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television. This year, the HFPA will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Golden Globe Awards. Members of the HFPA represent 56 countries with a combined readership of 250 million in some of the world’s most respected publications. Each year, the organization holds the third most watched awards show on television, the Golden Globe® Awards, which has enabled the organization to donate $30 million to entertainment-related charities, scholarship programs and humanitarian efforts over the last 25 years. Last year, the HFPA distributed $3 million in grants through their Charitable Trust to a diverse group of organizations and institutions within the entertainment industry. Mr. Warmth, Don Rickles Returns to The Orleans Showroom Oct. 22-23

Don Rickles

Returning for his 57th consecutive year as a Las Vegas headliner, internationally distinguished comedian, actor and entertainer Don Rickles will perform at The Orleans Showroom on Oct. 22 and 23.

Frequently known by the nicknames “The Merchant of Venom” and “Mr. Warmth,” Rickles’ style of comedy is never mean-spirited and all part of his act. It has been said that being “zinged” by Rickles is like “wearing a badge of honor.”

Rickles took his first step toward national fame in 1957, when he spotted Frank Sinatra in the audience at a nightclub in Miami Beach. The still-unknown Rickles eyed Sinatra and said, “I just saw your movie, ‘The Pride and the Passion,’ and I want to tell you, the cannon was great. Make yourself at home, Frank. Hit somebody.” Sinatra, whose pet name for Rickles was “bullet-head,” enjoyed Rickles so much that he returned to see him when he was performing in Los Angeles, and encouraged other celebrities to see his act. Rickles soon became the “in” comic among Hollywood stars, who flocked to see him to become a target of his insults. Sinatra’s continuing support helped Rickles become a popular performer in Las Vegas, where he first started in 1959, and has been a headliner ever since.

Shortly after being discovered by Sinatra, Rickles made his acting debut in 1958’s “Run Silent Run Deep.”  The movie was a hit, launching Rickles’ career as a movie, television and stage actor.  His still-growing television and film resume includes roles in “Casino,” “Kelly’s Heroes,” “The Rat Race,” all three “Toy Story” films, HBO’s “Tales From the Crypt,” and Bravo’s “My Life on the D-List” with Kathy Griffin. In 2011, he made a surprise appearance in a “cliff-hanger” episode as the “thought-to-be-dead” husband of Betty White’s character on the TV Land comedy “Hot In Cleveland,” with a follow-up appearance later in the season. In 2000, Rickles received one of the highest honors in the entertainment business when he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Rickles has received two Primetime Emmy Awards, including Best Individual Performance in a Variety or Musical for the 2008 HBO special “Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project.” In 2009, TV Land honored Rickles with the “Legend Award.” Rickles’ best-selling memoir “Rickles’ Book” was released in 2007, followed by the 2008 title, “Rickles’ Letters.”

In spring 2012, Rickles joined David Letterman as one of the only two performers to receive the prestigious “Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence” at The Comedy Awards, aired on Comedy Central. The award was presented to Rickles by Jon Stewart and Robert DeNiro. In June 2013, Rickles was honored with the Friars Club’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Comedy at a star-studded awards gala at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. Among those participating in honoring Rickles through their songs or words were Lewis Black, Louis C.K., Natalie Cole, Bob Costas, Tony Danza, Robert DeNiro, Kathy Griffin, Diana Krall, John Mayer, Bob Newhart, Regis Philbin, Joan Rivers, Bob Saget and John Stamos.

The honors continued when a star-studded cast honored Rickles on SPIKE TV’s “One Night Only: An All-Star Comedy Tribute to Don Rickles” in May 2014. The two-hour special was taped in New York City, Rickles’ hometown, and includes stand-up performances, short films, pre-taped tributes and personal stories as told by Rickles’ closest friends, his co-stars and other comedians he has influenced. The event featured celebrities from the world of comedy, television and the silver screen including Robert DeNiro, Johnny Depp, Tina Fey, Brad Garrett, Jimmy Kimmel, David Letterman, Tracy Morgan, Eddie Murphy, Bob Newhart, Regis Philbin, Amy Poehler, Ray Romano, Martin Scorsese, Jerry Seinfeld, Jon Stewart and Brian Williams.

In addition to recurring dates in Las Vegas at The Orleans, Rickles continues to be a popular performer in venues throughout the country.

Showtime each evening is 8 p.m. Tickets start at $69.95, plus tax and convenience fees, and can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming Box Office, by calling 702.284.7777, or visiting www.orleanscasino.com.

Tracey Cunningham’s golden highlights take the stage at the Golden Globes

At last night’s 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards, the awards that were given out were not the only gold stealing the spotlight. No matter their natural color, A-list stars ranging from Jennifer Lopez to Chrissy Teigen to Jennifer Aniston flaunted lightened hair and discreet, golden highlights.

Tracey Cunningham, Redken Celebrity Colorist helped Amy Poehler, Kate Beckinsale and Dakota Johnson among many other stars, prepare for the awards with Redken color and shares with us her secrets below.

  1. Amy Poehler: Tracey applied Redken’s NEW Blonde Idol Blue Oil Lightening System oil lightener (coming to Redken salons this March) to achieve a customized lightened shade that adds depth and incorporates the babylights trend that mimics the sun-kissed tones that hair took on during childhood. To ensure Amy’s color would shine onstage, Tracey finished with Shades EQ Gloss, an ammonia-free, no-lift formula that acts as a glaze, color refresher and color corrector.

Amy Poehler

  1. Kate Beckinsale: To revitalize Kate’s color and achieve ultimate coverage with natural reflects, Tracey applied Redken Cover Fusion, a low ammonia, 100% coverage color cream that gives hair a rich blend of copper and gold tones while adding density and fullness. For subtle highlights and added depth that would further enhance Kate’s updo, Tracey used Redken’s NEW Blonde Idol High Lift Conditioning Cream Color from the Professional Haircolor Collection.

Kate Beckinsale

  1. Dakota Johnson: To revitalize Dakota’s rich near-violet locks, Tracey applied Redken’s NEW Shades EQ Cream with Carmin’R (launched in Redken salons this January), a new introduction to the existing Redken Color portfolio that features a revolutionary dye molecule and  provides a long-lasting red with a truer to red tone color for up to 40 shampoos*. For a healthy shine, Tracey finished with Shades EQ Gloss.

Dakota Johnson

To continue to protect the haircolor after their service, Tracey recommends that her clients use Redken Color Extend Magnetics Sulfate-Free Haircare to seal in colour and deliver maximum vibrancy and shine.

Redken’s Tracey Cunningham Gives Award-Winning Color to Amy Poehler for the Golden Globes

The Golden Globes brought plenty of glitz and glamour to the red carpet last night. The stars were shining extra bright, whether it was the sequined dresses, brilliant jewels, or luminous haircolor.

Tracey Cunningham, Redken Creative Consultant for Color and colorist to the stars, helped co-host Amy Poehler prepare for the awards with Redken color.

“In the past, Amy has always been a single process blonde, but over the last year we have been growing out her color at the base and only applying highlights vs. all over color. In order to get her camera ready for her Golden Globes hosting duty, I used Redken’s Chromatic Prismatic Permanent Color. The blonde really popped under the lights of the Golden Globe stage.”

Amy may not have left the stage with a Golden Globe win, but her haircolor is definitely the winner in our favorite blonde category! Opting for an elegant updo, Amy’s hair was side swept into delicate bun on the left side of her head. Framed by diamond earrings, and several outfit changes, Amy’s Golden Globes look was as great as her performance.

Visit your Redken salon to receive a Chromatics haircolor service; the ultimate haircolor experience. Chromatics is ammonia-free permanent haircolor that guarantees 2X more fortified hair, multi-dimensional color and up to 100% grey coverage!
