American Lung Association in Nevada offers special discount code for $10 off Scale the Strat Registration

People across the country will ditch their elevator ride on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 10, 2018 and take the stairs in honor of National Take the Stairs Day which is why the American Lung Association in Nevada is challenging Las Vegas residents to take it one step further and register to climb all 108 floors to the top of the iconic Stratosphere Tower in February.

To celebrate National Take the Stairs Day and Scale the Strat’s ten year anniversary, the American Lung Association in Nevada is offering a special coupon code for $10 off Scale the Strat registration (registration is $60).   The coupon code – TAKETHESTAIRS – is only valid from midnight until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018.  To register visit www.scalethestrat.com.

Scale the Strat will take place on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower in Las Vegas.

“Breathing should not be an uphill battle, but for many it is,” said Kristina Crawford, executive director of the American Lung Association in Nevada.  “Scale the Strat is an exhilarating experience for athletes of all abilities and a humble reminder that no one should have to fight for air on a daily basis.”

Scale the Strat is part of the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb series, which raises money for lung disease research, education and advocacy.  In addition to registration fees, all climbers are required to make a minimum fundraising pledge of $150. Online support and personal fundraising coaching is available online and through Lung Association staff.

Last year, a record 800 climbers of all abilities registered to run or walk 1,455 steps up the Stratosphere Tower and raised $237,000 to prevent lung disease and promote lung health. Since the climb’s inception, nearly $1.5 million has been raised to support those living with lung disease.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has been the presenting sponsor for all ten years of the Fight for Air Climb, and Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower donates staff, services and use of the facility for this popular athletic event.

Scale the Strat to be 3rd Annual USA Stair Climbing Championship

The first step is easy.  It is the next 1,455 steps that are the challenge. Yes, you read that right.  One thousand four hundred fifty-five steps.

Registration is now open for Scale the Strat on Sunday, March 1, 2015.  Those wanting to climb all 108 floors of stairs inside the iconic Stratosphere Tower, the highest building west of the Mississippi River, can sign up by going to www.ScaleTheStrat.com.  Simple, right?

Once registered, participants will join hundreds of athletes of all abilities who dare to take on this extreme stair climb with the goal to raise money for the American Lung Association in Nevada’s mission of preventing lung diseases and promoting lung health.

This year, Scale the Strat will be held in conjunction with the third annual USA Stair Climb Championship, which will attract elite stair climbers from all over the world and allow amateur climbers the opportunity to rub elbows with the best athletes in the sport.

“Make no mistake, walking or running all the flights inside this iconic tower is a challenge.  But we climb for all those who struggle to breathe every day,” said American Lung Association in Nevada Executive Director Allison Newlon Moser. “It has been exciting to see Scale the Strat grow and become a signature event in Las Vegas and in the world of elite stair climbing.”

Seven years ago, 110 people took on the challenge.  In 2014, close to 600 people climbed the stairs inside Stratosphere Tower raising an impressive $202,960 for the American Lung Association in Nevada in one day.   Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has been the presenting sponsor since the event’s inception.

Climbers who register for Scale the Strat 2015 before December 31, 2014 will receive a special “early bird” discounted registration rate of $40.  Starting January 1, 2015 registration is $60, and day of event registration is $75.   In addition to the registration fee, all climbers are asked to make a minimum fundraising pledge of $150.  Online support and personal fundraising coaching is available online.

Participants will be placed into a starting gate queue in groups, then released one-by-one at timed intervals.  Each athlete will be able to climb the Tower once.

“This event is one of the rare occasions when we open the stairwells of our iconic Stratosphere Tower to the public,” said Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower General Manager Paul Hobson.  “Our team is committed to providing each athlete and their friends and families the best experience possible.  Both inside the stairwells, and outside the stairwells so they can enjoy all that Stratosphere has to offer.”

Climbers can pick up their packets the day of the event, or attend a weekend kick off the Friday before climb day and pick up their packet at a special Happy Hour at McCall’s Heartland Grill at Stratosphere. Sixth Annual Extreme Stair Climb to take place at Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas, NV

It is called an extreme stair climb for a reason.

On Sunday, March 2, 2014, hundreds of athletes of all abilities will climb all 108 floors and 1,455 steps inside the iconic Stratosphere Tower, the highest building west of the Mississippi River, to raise money for the American Lung Association in Nevada’s mission of preventing lung diseases and promoting lung health.

You could be one of them.

For the sixth consecutive year, American Lung Association in Nevada (ALAN), Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield announce that registration is now open at www.ScaletheStrat.com for the Scale the Strat, on Sunday, March 2, 2014.

Discounts apply for early registration.  Super Saver Registration is $40 for climbers who register before December 15, 2013; Early Bird Registration is $60 for climbers who register December 16, 2013 through February 16, 2014; and Regular and Walk-In Registration is $75 for climbers who register February 17, 2014 to March 2, 2014, the day of the climb.  In addition to the registration fee, all climbers are asked to make a minimum fundraising pledge of $150.   Online support and personal fundraising coaching is available on www.ScaletheStrat.com to help climbers achieve their fundraising goal.

Registration is limited and participants must be at least 18 years of age or older.

“Scale the Strat is our major fundraiser of the year,” said American Lung Association in Nevada Executive Director Allison Newlon Moser.  “It has been exciting to see this extreme stair climb event grow.  Each step represents the steps we are taking together to fight lung disease in Southern Nevada.”

In 2013, a record 560 people signed up to participate in Scale the Strat and raised an unprecedented $175,000 for the American Lung Association in Nevada.

For the sixth annual Scale the Strat, the competition will once again be streamlined into one day of climbing.  A staggered shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m. will allow each participant to scale the stairs inside the iconic Tower once.   Awards will be presented at the end of the day for fastest times and other achievements in various categories.

Stair climbs have become unique, signature fundraising events for the American Lung Association.  Sometimes called a “vertical road race”, participants can use the climb as a fitness target or competitive race.  But many climbers have a personal reason why they climb:  lung disease has impacted the life of someone they love.

“Scale the Strat is becoming one of the premier stair climbs in the country and we are proud to support and partner with the American Lung Association in Nevada in its fight against lung disease,” said Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower General Manager Paul Hobson.  “Our team is committed to providing each athlete and their friends and families an exceptional stay and experience at Stratosphere.”

For those traveling to participate in Scale the Strat 2014, Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower is offering a special guest room rates for the extended weekend:  Thursday, February 27, 2014 at a rate of $32; Friday through Sunday, March 2, 2014, at a rate of $79, a night.    To take advantage of these special rates call 800-998-6937 or book online at www.stratospherehotel.com and use code C-ALA14.   Guests booking rooms with code before February 14, 2014 will be entered into a drawing for a $200 sporting goods store gift card, and will receive two free buffet and two show tickets to a Stratosphere show of their choice.  Those wanting to extend their stay on either end of the mentioned dates should call rather than book online.  Please note the Scale the Strat 2014 promotional code cannot be used on a third party site.

Since its founding in 1970, JDRF has awarded more than $1.6 billion to diabetes research. Past JDRF efforts have helped to significantly advance the care of people with this disease, and have expanded the critical scientific understanding of T1D. JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered. More than 80 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education.
