THE NEON MUSEUM OFFERS NEW 360 VIRTUAL TOUR

Virtual Visitors Enjoy 360-degree Views from 130 Vantage Points

The Neon Museum announces it now offers a 360 Virtual Tour, allowing visitors to “move” freely throughout the Neon Boneyard’s sign collection, exploring more than 130 informational hotspots.

The 360 Virtual Tour launches with an Evening Glow experience as guests tour the museum at night while the signage is illuminated. Once guests enter the museum via the virtual tour, a welcome video provides details and instruction on how to navigate the Neon Boneyard. By clicking the white circles along the museum’s pathways, or by using the arrow keys, guests may freely explore the Boneyard, navigating from sign to sign while enjoying 360-degree vantage points at every stop.

The red, blue and yellow hotspots on the museum signs denote opportunities to learn more, either via pop-up text, photographs or video. By hovering on a red hotspot, guests will open a YouTube video with audio featuring a short Neon Museum Gallery Talk or documentary. Hovering over a blue hotspot allows guests to open a written description that includes either historical information or fun facts. Meanwhile, yellow hotspots allow guests to view historical photos from the museum’s archival collection.

Tour signage highlights include:

  • The Hard Rock Café Guitar – Guests may watch a 27-minute documentary called “Strings of Neon” about the restoration project and its journey to the Neon Boneyard.
  • Select artworks from the 2019-2020 exhibition of Lost Vegas: Tim Burton @ The Neon Museum remain in the Boneyard for ongoing exhibition. Guests may read about the history of these signs and fun facts.
  • The recent relamping of the Stardust letters can be viewed on the virtual tour. Guests may enjoy reading about the history of the sign and why the letters take on a futuristic shape.

Restored Hard Rock Café Guitar Sign Illuminated for the First Time in the Neon Boneyard

The newly restored, re-electrified Hard Rock Café guitar sign was illuminated for the first time during a private event for museum donors and VIPs. The sign was divided into six pieces (see photos of all six pieces here) in order to be transported to the Neon Museum Boneyard from the Young Electric Sign Company (YESCO). Prior to restoration by YESCO, the sign had been located in front of the Hard Rock Café for 27 years. In its new Boneyard home, it joins many other historical Las Vegas neon signs where its history can be shared with guests and visitors from around the world.

FAST FACTS:

  • The restoration took approximately 1,650-man hours to complete the rebuild and install.
  • The Hard Rock letters comprise up to 1,538, 10-watt clear incandescent light bulbs, spaced out 3-inches on center.
  • Neon colors used on the guitar were ruby red, clear red, 3500K white and gold II.
  • There are approximately 4,110 feet of neon tubing on the sign, equating to more than three-quarters of a mile and more than 700 individual neon units.
  • The footing of the sign required 648 cubic feet of concrete.
  • The area of the face of the sign is 800 square feet.
  • The largest of the six sections of the sign that had to be transported from YESCO to the Boneyard is the head, which measures 13-feet-six-inches; a special permit was required in order to transport the sign due to its height.

Join GRAMMY Recording Artist and concert LED rock violinist, Michelle Jones, for a night of her unique violin performance for an electrifying cause at “Sips, Signs & Strings.” Sip libations and enjoy hors d’oeuvres provided by the evening’s sponsors, Cut and Taste and Events with a Twist, amidst rarely seen historic signs at the Neon Museum’s new indoor studio and exhibition space, Ne10.

WHO:
Jones will perform the music of many Las Vegas legends, as well as that of classic and modern rock and pop artists on her signature lighted LED violin with LaserBow. She performs regularly on the globe’s great stages, including Hard Rock Live venues around the world. Jones also serves as president and band leader of Violectric, Inc., a band that fuses the passion and beauty of classical string instruments with the excitement of cutting-edge modern technology and effects.  With Violectric, Jones has opened for acts including Josh Groban, SIA, Twenty-One Pilots, Adam Levine, Huey Lewis and the News, Katharine McPhee and Rascal Flatts. Neon Museum Launches Fundraising Campaign to Restore Hard Rock Guitar Sign

NEON MUSEUM LAUNCHES FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN TO RESTORE HARD ROCK GUITAR SIGN

 

This Giving Tuesday, the Neon Museum kicks off a fundraising campaign to transport the Hard Rock Café guitar sign from the Young Electric Sign Company (YESCO), install it in the world-famous Neon Boneyard and provide an endowment for its ongoing maintenance and conservation efforts. The museum’s goal is to raise $350,000.

“Having this sign in the Neon Boneyard will elevate the experience of visiting our collection to a brand-new level,” said Rob McCoy, president and chief executive officer, Neon Museum. “We thank the community in advance for their support in helping us bring this jewel of Las Vegas sign history to the museum.”

The Hard Rock Café opened in 1990 and closed on New Year’s Eve 2016. Its monumental guitar sign measured 22 feet wide by 80 feet tall and was situated on the corner of Paradise Road and Harmon Avenue. Over the years, it was featured in countless Hollywood productions, becoming an iconic symbol of Las Vegas. The museum is grateful YESCO, which designed and owned the sign, opted to donate the retired sign to the Neon Museum.

Donors to the Hard Rock sign campaign will be recognized for their contributions, 100 percent of which will go directly to the efforts to transport, install and maintain the sign. Donors of $250 or more will be invited to attend the illumination party for the Hard Rock sign after its installation in the Neon Boneyard. Donors of $100 or more will be recognized with a plaque bearing their name on the base of the Hard Rock sign. In addition, all donors will be entered into a raffle to win a unique neon art piece.

The Tyler Robinson Foundation begins with the story of Tyler – one of many heroes who chose not to let his prognosis dictate his outlook on life. Hard Rock Rising, the world’s most far-reaching battle of the bands competition gives local groups a shot at stardom with an all-expenses paid trip to Barcelona, Spain to compete for the chance to perform at the first-ever Hard Rock Rising Barcelona music festival this summer!

One winner will be selected from each location by a panel of local industry judges. Yesterday the cast of Raiding the Rock Vault were honored with a special memorabilia case dedication featuring many items from their rock ‘n’ roll histories with bands including Heart, Asia, Whitesnake and Quiet Riot. Fans showed up at the Hard Rock Cafe’s strip location to watch their favorite rock icons pose in front of the case and talk about the stories behind several of the items which included the jacket leather jacket worn by Paul Shortino during “This is Spinal Tap”, guitars from Doug Aldrich of Whitesnake and Andrew Freeman of The Offspring, the black suit worn by Robin McAuley worn during MSG’s music video “This is my Heart” and more.

Hard Rock Cafe to showcase history of Raiding the Rock Vault artists with Memorabilia Case Dedication  

Artists to donate items from their storied rock ‘n’ roll histories with bands including Heart, Asia, Whitesnake, Quiet Riot, and more!

 

Hard Rock Cafe’s strip location is set to pay homage to the legendary talent that perform in LVH – Las Vegas Hotel & Casino’s Raiding the Rock Vault on Tuesday, April 8 at 3 p.m. The display will be located on the third level of the cafe and will include pieces of rock ‘n’ roll history from artists who have performed in iconic bands including Heart, Asia, Whitesnake, Quiet Riot, and more.

“We’re into our second year of performing the show here at LVH and the audience response has been a dream come true,” said Raiding the Rock Vault lead vocalist Paul Shortino, (Rough Cutt, Quiet Riot). “Our fans just awarded us with the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s 2014 Best of Las Vegas honor, and we’re excited to have our memorabilia on display at Hard Rock Cafe for them to see!”

In addition to the case dedication, Hard Rock Cafe will be partnering with the show the entire month of April as the restaurant and music venue’s preferred production. Throughout the month, guests who come in to either Hard Rock Cafe location, Paradise or Las Vegas Blvd., with a Raiding the Rock Vault ticket stub will receive 20% off of their meal, excluding alcohol.

WHAT: Ska musicians The English Beat return to the Hard Rock Cafe at Hard Rock Hotel as part of the Cafe’s free live music program on Friday, January 17.

The English Beat emerged into the music scene in the late 70’s in England amid social, political and musical disorder. The Beat quickly became one of the most popular and influential bands of the British ska movement. Their music reflects sociopolitical ideals with themes of love and unity set to a dance beat.

The Beat’s music fuses ska, pop, soul, reggae and punk rock, to a very danceable beat led by charismatic frontman Dave Wakeling and supported by a very tight band. 30+ years after their inception, The Beat is still alive, performing new compositions and touring.

Hard Rock Cafes in Las Vegas Host Special Events as Part of 14th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

 

In celebration of Hard Rock International’s 14th annual PINKTOBER™ campaign, both Hard Rock Cafe locations in Las Vegas will host a series of special events to raise awareness and funds for a cause that affects millions of people around the world. On Tuesday, October 1, 2013, Hard Rock Cafe Las Vegas on the Strip will kick off this year’s PINKTOBER program with a ribbon cutting featuring Bally’s Headliner, Véronic.  In addition, guests can visit Hard Rock’s Rock Shop throughout the month of October to customize Hard Rock’s classic t-shirt and make it pink for the cause. All events at Hard Rock Cafes in Las Vegas benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, an organization dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front.

As part of this year’s PINKTOBER program, both Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip and Hard Rock Cafe Las Vegas at Hard Rock Hotel invite guests to join Hard Rock on Saturday, October 5, 2013, for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk to help finish the fight against breast cancer.
