WALKER FURNITURE AND HELP OF SOUTHERN NEVADA STILL ACCEPTING NOMINATION LETTERS FOR 19th ANNUAL “HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS”

Walker Furniture to Provide 28 Families with a Houseful of Furniture

Walker Furniture is still accepting letters of nomination on behalf of families and individuals in need for the company’s 19th annual Home For The Holidays program.  Once again, Walker Furniture has expanded the program to include 28 recipients of a houseful of brand new furniture, in time for the holidays. The deadline for nomination letters is Dec. 7.  All letters are being reviewed by outside, independent panels, with assistance from HELP of Southern Nevada, a local nonprofit that reads and verifies the thousands of letters received each year from the community.

Since 1994, Home For The Holidays has brought joy and hope to hundreds of Valley families that have endured a variety of hardships.  Past recipients have included single-parent households facing financial difficulty; families with children suffering from physical or mental disorders; families that have lost their homes and belongings to fires; families that have been affected by illness, domestic violence or sexual abuse, and a variety of additional situations where families and individuals have come onto hard times.

Letters to Walker Furniture typically come from teachers and students, health care professionals, social service workers, clergy, friends, neighbors, children and grandchildren.

Walker Furniture relies on the community to submit letters on behalf of prospective recipients.  Anyone with a family or individual in mind should write to company president, Larry Alterwitz, describing the situation.

Letters should be sent to:

Larry Alterwitz, CEO Walker Furniture 301 S. Martin Luther King Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89106 FAX: (702) 384-7772
Letters can be mailed by US Postal Service, faxed, hand delivered or e-mailed to cnelson@walkerfurniture.com.  Letters can also be submitted online by visiting www.walkerfurniturehomefortheholidays.com. The letters must be received by Dec. 7 to be reviewed. The 28 recipients will be announced at a special luncheon on Dec. 19 at The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.  Furniture deliveries will begin on Dec. 21.
Home for the Holidays is the largest annual charitable endeavor for Walker Furniture, which has a long history of contributing to worthwhile community causes.  The program began in 1994 with deliveries to 12 families.

Since 1970, HELP of Southern Nevada has assisted individuals and families to become self sufficient through direct services, training and referrals.  The organization has been a great asset to Walker’s Home For The Holidays program, lending their expertly trained staff to identify which nominated families display the most genuine need.
