Galleria at Sunset confirmed today that the previously announced Oktoberfest event will still take place on Saturday, October 14 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. In light of Sunday’s tragedy, half of all proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Las Vegas Victim’s Fund.“Instead of cancelling Galleria’s Oktoberfest, we have decided to use it as a way to raise additional funds and support for those impacted by this weekend’s tragedy,” said Kevin Budny, general manager of Galleria at Sunset.Staying true to German tradition, the event boasts more than 15 German and local beers, polka dancing, live Bavarian music, contests, and popular German fare. Among the Oktoberfest activities inspired by Bavarian tradition: guests are encouraged to wear their best Lederhosen and enter the Costume Contest. First, second and third place winners will be chosen based on the most authentic and elaborate costumes. The Beer Stein Race challenges participants to race with steins full of beer and participants with the least amount of beer spilled is the winner. The Beer Tasting Contest is perfect for German beer aficionados. Participants will be blindfolded as they taste and try to identify six different German beers. The individual who can correctly identify the most beers will take home the grand prize. All contest winners will receive an authentic one-liter beer stein full of goodies and gift cards.

Oktoberfest will be held outside on the Galleria’s plaza and admission is $20 per person. Admission includes a beer stein along with the first beer, entry into all contests and access to view college football games all day long through a partnership with Cox Communications.

Additional food and beer will be available for purchase. Attendees must be 21 to receive a beer stein and participate in certain contests. Families are welcome to attend and kids are free to enter, but must be accompanied by a parent at all times.

On Saturday, July 22, Galleria will host the 10th annual Cox Back to School Fair, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The longest running, one-stop, school readiness event in Southern Nevada offers a fun, entertaining and highly interactive atmosphere with more than 60 community booths including wide representation from the Clark County School District with information on food service, bus transportation, zoning, police and more. From July 22 through Aug. 12, Galleria at Sunset will host a back-to-school drive, collecting new shirts, pants, athletic shoes, socks and backpacks. The drive will benefit the Assistance League®, a local nonprofit that clothes more than 8,000 kids each school year. Many children throughout Southern Nevada do not have the basics to start school, but this year Galleria shoppers will help dress 500 kids ranging from kindergarten to 8th grade. Galleria at Sunset will host the Life Is Beautiful fashion show featuring spring, summer and prom fashions from popular Galleria retailers. The event is held in partnership with the Green Valley Chapter of the National Charity League and will feature models from Green Valley High School. Mix 94.1 DJ Heather Collins and 98.5 KLUC DJ CO1 will serve as emcees.

Photos and Visits with the Easter Bunny, Family Egg Hunts

 Beginning March 25, families can enjoy a range of delightful Easter activities.

Members of Galleria at Sunset Kids Club will be the first to welcome the Easter Bunny on Saturday, March 25 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The Easter Bunny will stop by the regular monthly Kids Club event to say hello and give away a special gift before heading to Center Court for photos.

The Easter Bunny will be at Center Court from Saturday, March 25 through Saturday, April 15 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. He will visit and take photos with children of all ages. Fur babies are invited to take have their photos taken with the Easter Bunny every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Galleria at Sunset will team up with Sunny 106.5 to offer free family activities and egg hunts on Saturday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Galleria’s Plaza. Bounce houses, a rock climbing wall, free face painting and a balloon artist will also be available.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. on the upper plaza and is on a first-come-first-served basis. Each child must register and have a wristband to participate. Egg hunts are divided by age, with hunts for children ages 0-4 and ages 5-9. Children can redeem eggs for candy and prizes at the redemption booth located on the lower plaza next to Bravo! Cucino Italiano.

Developer to revitalize shopping center and surrounding Maryland Parkway area

The Boulevard Mall, one of Las Vegas’ most iconic shopping centers of the mid-1960s through 80s, will be restored to its former glory, marking its first major renovation in more than two decades. Sansone Companies, a commercial real estate company, acquired the property in December 2013 for $54.5 million and is looking at the renovation of the Boulevard as a catalyst in the overall redevelopment effort of the Maryland Parkway corridor.

Officially approved in today’s Planning Commission meeting, construction on the 1.2-million square-foot property will commence in mid-2014. Sansone plans to invest approximately $23 to $25 million in the mall’s redevelopment, which will include a new line-up of stores, restaurants and entertainment venues; redesigned façade and landscape; and enhancements to surrounding areas on Maryland Parkway. The changes will take place in several phases and be completed by 2015.

“The Boulevard Mall is renowned in the Las Vegas community but is in need of major updates to restore its relevancy for today’s consumer shopping experience,” said Roland Sansone, Founder of Sansone Companies. “When we took ownership of the property, we not only saw it as an opportunity to breathe new life into the mall, but to Maryland Parkway as well.”

Originally built in 1965, The Boulevard currently features anchors including Macy’s, Sears, Marshalls, JCPenney and Old Navy, in addition to many other tenants.

The improvements to the shopping center will include:

  • New Tenants – The Boulevard Mall will announce several new stores, restaurants and family entertainment venues to create a variety of experiences for Las Vegas locals and visitors.
  • Farmers Market – The area of the existing south driveway will be transformed into a thriving farmers market featuring approximately 70 vendors. A large children’s playground will also be installed within the space.
  • Valet Parking – Once renovations are complete, The Boulevard will feature valet parking for added convenience.
  • Free Wi-Fi – The Boulevard Mall will now offer complimentary Wi-Fi service for all visitors.
  • Food Court Upgrade – The current food court space will see the addition of several new tenants, as well the installation of four 80-inch plasma televisions broadcasting sports and news.
  • Redesigned Exterior – A key component of The Boulevard Mall revitalization will be a brand new façade that faces Maryland Parkway and its corridor. There will be a redesigned entrance including new storefronts, awnings and landscaping, in addition to new modern colors on the exterior.

The Boulevard Mall will remain open for business during construction. The center’s hours of operations are Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., and Sunday, noon – 7 p.m.
