About The Upcoming Championship Pay-Per-View Events

UFC® 165: JONES vs. GUSTAFSSON takes place Saturday, September 21 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, as reigning pound-for-pound king Jon Jones defends his light heavyweight title against a top-ranked challenger who can match him in speed, size and youth in Alexander Gustafsson. Both men have been calling for the showdown and, finally, the biggest 205-pound clash of the year is on.  Tickets are available now at www.ticketmaster.ca or by calling (800) 745-3000.

UFC® 166: VELASQUEZ vs. DOS SANTOS 3 takes place Saturday, October 19, from Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The fate of the world heavyweight championship will be decided when perhaps the two baddest men on the planet – UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and rival former heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos – collide for the third and perhaps final time in their blistering series. Mexican-American Velasquez regained the championship from Brazil-born dos Santos last December, pounding out a five-round decision which tied the series 1-1 after dos Santos’ crushing 64-second KO win in their first fight in 2011. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 2 at www.houstontoyotacenter.com or by calling (866) 4-HOU-TIX.

UFC® 167: ST-PIERRE vs. HENDRICKS takes place Saturday, November 16 at The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, where the longest-reigning champion in the UFC, welterweight king Georges St-Pierre, returns to the Octagon® to face No.1 contender Johny Hendricks. “GSP” will be fighting in the United States for the first time in three-and-a-half years, taking on his most dangerous challenger to date in the sledge-hammer handed “Bigg Rigg.” Tickets go on sale Friday, August 2 at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745-3000.

UFC® 168: WEIDMAN vs. SILVA 2 closes out 2013 on Saturday, December 28 at The MGM Grand Garden Arena with the most hotly anticipated rematch in UFC history with UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman defending his title against the dethroned king, Anderson Silva. UFC 168 also features UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, who takes on bitter rival Miesha Tate in a rematch of one the biggest female fights of all time. Rousey ripped the championship from Tate in a breathtaking March 2012 war, however, nothing was settled in Tate’s eyes and now she gets her chance to avenge the most painful defeat of her career at UFC 168. Tickets go on sale Friday, September 27 at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745-3000.

All bouts live and subject to change. Visit UFC.com for more information.

“”TICKETS GO ON SALE THIS WEEK 10/26 FOR UFC 155: DOS SANTOS VS. VELASQUEZ II **

UFC® HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION JUNIOR DOS SANTOS MEETS CAIN VELASQUEZ IN LONG-AWAITED REMATCH ON DEC. 29

TICKETS FOR UFC® 155: DOS SANTOS vs. VELASQUEZ 2AT MGM GRAND GARDEN ARENA IN LAS VEGAS ON SALE FRIDAY, OCT. 26!

On Saturday, Dec. 29 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the Ultimate Fighting Championship® closes 2012 with a bang, as UFC® heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos meets former champion Cain Velasquezin a long-awaited rematch between two of the sport’s hardest-hitting competitors.

Dos Santos (15-1, fighting out of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil) ended Velasquez’s reign as heavyweight champion last November, knocking out the two-time Division I All-American wrestler in the first round. Now, the 30-year-old Velasquez (9-1, fighting out of San Jose, Calif.) seeks revenge in arguably the biggest rematch in UFC history.

“Cain is on a mission to get the belt back and avenge the only loss of his career,” UFC President Dana White said. “He wants to prove that he’s still the best heavyweight in the world. But Junior is one of the hardest-hitting fighters ever and he proved that by knocking out Cain and Frank Mir in back to back fights. This is the perfect fight to end 2012!”

In addition to the heavyweight title rematch, former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin meets former Division I national champion wrestler Phil Davis in a pivotal 205-pound contest. Griffin, winner of season one of The Ultimate Fighter®, defeated Tito Ortiz in a trilogy bout in July. Now he collides with Davis, who is fresh off a brilliant submission victory over Wagner Prado at UFC 153.

UFC 155 also features surging middleweight star Chris Weidman (9-0, fighting out of Mineola, N.Y.) taking on Tim Boetsch (16-4, fighting out of Sunbury, Pa.) in a fight that will push the winner toward a 185-pound title shot. Weidman scored a first-round TKO of top contender Mark Munoz, while Boetsch snapped Hector Lombard’s five-year, 20-fight winning streak by defeating the Cuban in July.

If that wasn’t enough, Gray Maynard (12-1-1, fighting out of San Jose, Calif.) faces submission ace Joe Lauzon (22-7, fighting out of Bridgewater, Mass.) in a bout between two of the lightweight division’s top contenders. Maynard defeated Clay Guida in his last fight in June, while Lauzon earned another Fight of the Night award in August with a thrilling win over Jamie Varner.

UFC Heavyweight Champ Makes Kid’s Dream Come True * Quotes & Video*

UFC® HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP MAKES KID’S DREAM COME TRUE

NINE-YEAR OLD FROM SALVADOR FLOWN IN TO SEE HERO DEFEND BELT AT

UFC® 146: THE HEAVYWEIGHTS

Reigning UFC®heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos may be wrapped in UFC gold now, but there was a time where he was just another poor kid from Brazil, dreaming of one day becoming a fighter and making a better life for himself.

Nicknamed ‘Cigano’ after a character in a Brazilian soap opera he resembled, dos Santos grew up in poverty in Caçador, southern Brazil. He gravitated to the judo and jiu-jitsu fighters who trained in a local gym, and fantasized about becoming a martial artist. Dos Santos chased this dream all the way to the neon lights of Las Vegas, where on Saturday night he headlines the huge UFC® 146 Pay-Per-View as the most dangerous mixed martial artist on earth.

Now it is dos Santos who inspires other kids’ dreams. As he made his final preparations before flying to Vegas for his bout with two-time champ Frank Mir, dos Santos was taken aside by Breno Luis Ferreira, a nine-year-old boy who, for months on end, had shown up to the champion’s gym in Salvador to watch his hero train.

The champion said: “As soon as school ends, Breno always appears. We love having him in the gym. He’s been coming to the gym so often now he’s become a little friend. We call him the Little Guy. After my last sparring session before flying to the US, he asked me why I had to fight in Vegas, and when I explained he said he wanted to come to help me win.

“He didn’t have a passport, his mother didn’t have a passport but I was a little guy once and people helped me. If we could make the little guy’s dream come true, if we were able somehow, why wouldn’t we?”

Two dozen officials and worked on two continents to get everything in order for Breno, his mother Simone and 16-year-old brother Pedro Gabriel to travel to the US in time to be Octagonside for Saturday’s event. They touched down at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport on Wednesday and were checked in to a MGM hotel room bigger than their home in Salvador.

Speaking through a translator, Breno said: “It’s just so exciting being here in Las Vegas. Even to get to sit on an airplane was like a dream. I could see all things out of the window, big buildings and we were really high above them, flying like a dream. Our room here is so nice and everyone is being so nice to me, but I’m here to help Cigano defend his title.”

“Cigano is the strongest man in the world. He can defeat anybody even though he is nice. He will beat Frank Mir on Saturday. I’ve seen him in the gym and he will win with a left hook followed by a big right uppercut. This will be in the first round.”

Dos Santos is happy to have his friend in town. He said: “He really likes to watch and he’s fun to have around. He’s not shy at all. He’s a mischievous kid, he’s always laughing.”

“Before I left for Las Vegas, he jumped into the ring and shouted ‘Now I am a Junior dos Santos! The UFC champion! I am Cigano! I will knock you all out!’ and he challenged the other kids to a pretend fight. He is a little louder than the real ‘Cigano’ but he is so excited every time he is in the gym.”

“At this point in my career, I can be a motivation and role model for these little guys from home. The kids see that all the fighters from the gym have good cars; they can see that hard work does lead to something good in life.”

Video Breno’s trip thus far:

UFC® 146: DOS SANTOS vs. OVEREEM will be available live on Pay-Per-View at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT on UFC.TV, iN DEMAND, DirecTV, DISH Network, Avail-TVN, and in Canada on BellTV, Shaw Communications, Sasktel, and Viewer’s Choice Canada for a suggested retail price of $44.99 US/$49.99 CAN for Standard Definition and $54.99 US/$59.99 CAN for High Definition.

While the UFC 146 main card is loaded with roughly one ton of knockout artists and submission aces, no fight has drawn as much attention as the title tilt between the champion, dos Santos, and challenger, Overeem. Fresh off knocking out Velasquez in November to capture the title, the 28-year-old “Cigano” would love nothing more than to end the reign of terror sparked by “The Reem.” Simply put, dos Santos isn’t envisioning his run as champion being short-lived.

“My dream was to become the champion,” dos Santos said. “The minute Dana strapped that belt around my waist, my dream got bigger.  I’m not here to be a one or two-defense champion; I’m here to stay. On May 26, there’s going to be a heavyweight striking war and someone is getting knocked out.”

A devastating striker who has held world titles in organizations such as STRIKEFORCE® and DREAM, the 31-year-old Overeem (36-11) has not lost a fight in nearly five years. Owner of wins over the likes of Brock Lesnar, Fabricio Werdum, Mark Hunt and Vitor Belfort, the kickboxing star believes he has the champion’s style dissected and diffused.

“The most important objective in my life right now is to not only become the UFC heavyweight champion, but to go on and reign as champion for years,” Overeem said. “I want to be remembered as the greatest heavyweight in the history of the sport.

“Dos Santos is a very good boxer,” he continued. “I think he is the best boxer in the division and he poses some very interesting problems. But I already know how I will beat him. I will become the new UFC heavyweight champion of the world at UFC 146.”
