Harrah’s Comedy-Magician Mac King made a special visit to four local elementary schools as part of Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour: Nevada Reading Week 2015. King held assemblies at each school, reading short stories to the students, performing tricks from his show and discussing the importance of reading. During his scheduled visits, King hand-delivered books collected from book drives held throughout February of this year with Savers of Las Vegas, the YMCA of Southern Nevada, Egg Works, The Egg & I, The Toy Box and Splashville. Donations benefitted The Public Education Foundation.

“I’d like to thank the community partners that helped make Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour: Nevada Reading Week 2015 really special,” said King. “I greatly enjoyed sharing the love of reading with my new pals and the enthusiasm was priceless. I look forward to making new pals next year.”

Mac King has been a long-time supporter of childhood literacy. For years, King has visited Las Vegas elementary schools to highlight the importance of literacy to students. In 2011, King launched Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour, a citywide literacy program to encourage reading for Las Vegas school children. Since then, Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour has collected more than 20,000 books for local elementary school students.

Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour, in Partnership with The Public Education Foundation, Announces “Why Reading is Magical” Essay Contest

Harrah’s Comedy-Magician Mac King and The Public Education Foundation announce an essay contest involving all Clark County School District fifth grade students. The essay challenge, “Why Reading is Magical”, will kick off this year’s Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour. The contest hopes to encourage young students’ passion for reading.

“Early on my grandfather passed along his love of books and reading,” says King. “I noticed pretty quickly that everyone I met who was a happy, successful adult loved to read. I look forward to hearing how reading makes these student’s lives magical.”

Each student is to turn in their essay by the end of Friday, October 3, to be reviewed by three judges. Once judged, three students will be selected as the first-, second-, and third-place winners. All three winning students will be given the chance to present their essays on stage with Mac King at the Vegas Valley Book Festival on Thursday, October 18, located at the Historic Fifth Street School in downtown Las Vegas. The first-place winner, along with his/her entire fifth grade class, will be awarded a trip to see The Mac King Comedy Magic Show at Harrah’s. This will include a meet-and-greet and photos with Mac King after the show.

Students can either email or mail their entries. If emailed, essays are to be sent to essay@preferredpublicrelations.com by October 3 at 11:59 p.m. If mailed, all essays are to be sent to 2630 S. Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89146 and postmarked by October 3 at 11:59 p.m.

Launched in 2011, Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour is in its fourth year of providing reading opportunities to local elementary school students. As well as performing at various schools across the valley, Mac King has created a book drive as the heart of the Literacy Tour, collecting and distributing more than 10,000 books. These books are gathered with the goal of making sure each student in the Clark County School District has at least one book of his or her very own.

About Mac King:
Now in his 15th year of headlining afternoons at Harrah’s Las Vegas, Comedy-Magician Mac King captivates audiences as he casts out a fishing line over their heads and catches live goldfish out of mid-air, performs amazing sleights-of-hand, makes his head completely disappear in a paper bag, and renders himself invisible, all while remaining unbelievably funny. Because of his quick wit and extensive audience interaction, no two shows are alike.

Sought after worldwide, King has made television appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” and all five of NBC’s “The World’s Greatest Magic” TV specials. King is consistently praised by fellow magicians. In a recent Wall Street Journal article, Teller, of Penn & Teller fame, called King “The best comedy magician in Vegas. He’ll fool you with his fantastically original tricks…” His numerous accolades include “Best Las Vegas Show” in the 2012 About.com Reader’s Choice Awards. Las Vegas Review-Journal named his show the “Best Bargain Show” for ten straight years (2003-2013), “Best Family Attraction” in 2012, and “Favorite Male Las Vegan” in 2008. In 2011, he was deemed “Best Strip Headliner” in the Las Vegas Weekly’s “Best Of” Awards. King has also been voted as Magic Magazine’s “Funniest Act in Magic,” the World Magic Awards’ “Best Comedy Magician” and the Magic Castle’s “Magician of the Year.”

King, one of today’s brightest and most talented magicians, takes the stage twice daily, Tuesday through Saturday, at Harrah’s Las Vegas at 1 and 3 p.m. in the Showroom Theatre.  Tickets are between $30.00 and $45.00 plus tax. “Since launching my literacy tour in 2011, the community has come together to collect more than 7,500 books for kids in local schools. In the world of pizza, Grimaldi’s is an institution that has garnered more awards than any other pizzeria in the country with more celebrity sightings than most 5-star restaurants.  Using only the freshest ingredients, a “secret recipe” pizza sauce, handmade mozzarella cheese and dough, Grimaldi’s serves traditional pizza (as it began in Naples, Italy) in an upscale yet casual, family oriented pizzeria. The intense heat of the oven evenly bakes the pies to create Grimaldi’s famous crispy and smoky thin crust that Zagat has voted best pizza year after year. Grimaldi’s Pizzeria has five locations in Las Vegas and one in Sparks, Nev.  Las Vegas locations include The Shoppes at The Palazzo, Rainbow and 215, Boca Park, Fashion Village, The Fashion Show Mall and Richmar Plaza.  The Sparks restaurant is located in The Legends at Sparks Marina.

Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour Returns for Back To School 2013

Comedy-Magician Mac King Teams Up with Las Vegas 51s and Grimaldi’s Pizzeria
To Host Book Drives in August

Donate books for free show tickets and other prizes

Comedy-Magician and Harrah’s Headliner Mac King is hitting the road again to collect books for kids in at-risk schools during Back to School 2013. King is teaming up with the Las Vegas 51s baseball team and Grimaldi’s Pizzeria in Las Vegas to host book drives this August for Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour: Back to School 2013, benefiting Clark County READS, the literacy initiative of The Public Education Foundation.

“I am proud to see the literacy tour grow in the past few years as more community partners jump on board. Thanks to these organizations and to the people who donate books, we are able to provide more reading opportunities to kids,” said King. “This August, Grimaldi’s Pizzeria and the Las Vegas 51s are making it easy for the Las Vegas community to do their part by donating books while enjoying a tasty pizza and an all-American baseball game.”

Throughout the month of August donate three or more new or gently used children’s books to receive a pair of tickets to The Mac King Comedy Magic Show and special offers from the host venue.

Las Vegas 51s Book Drive and First Pitch – Saturday, August 24
The Las Vegas 51s baseball team will host a book drive during the home game on Saturday, August 24, at 7 p.m. at Cashman Field. Anyone who donates three or more new or gently used children’s books will receive a pair of tickets to The Mac King Comedy Magic Show and will be entered into a raffle to win autographed Las Vegas 51s merchandise (Limit one pair of show tickets and one raffle ticket per person. Must be present to win. Winner will be announced during the 7th inning stretch).

Additionally, Mac King will be on-site to collect donations, meet and greet with fans and sign autographs from 6-6:30 p.m. and throw out the first pitch beginning at 6:40 p.m.

Grimaldi’s Pizzeria – August 2013
During the month of August, guests who donate three or more new or gently used children’s books at any of the five Grimaldi’s Pizzeria Las Vegas locations will receive a pair of tickets to The Mac King Comedy Magic Show and a $5 Off Card for Grimaldi’s Pizzeria (Limit one per person. Grimaldi’s Pizzeria $5 Off Card good for future visit only).

Additionally, Mac King is a fan of Grimaldi’s Pizzeria and has created his own signature pizza, Mac King’s Magic Pizza. Stop by any Grimaldi’s Pizzeria location in Las Vegas to make a book donation and try Mac King’s Magic Pizza.

“Unlike my comedy magic show, my pizza is probably not for everyone. I like Anchovies and Kalamata Olives. Combine that with Grimaldi’s famous secret recipe sauce, handmade mozzarella, and coal fired crispy crust and you have a salty, savory, magical treat,” King added.

Nevada Reading Week 2014
Donated books will be personally delivered by King to kids in at-risk schools during Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour: Nevada Reading Week 2014. Each year during Nevada Reading Week, King visits students at local elementary schools to teach the importance of literacy by reading stories and performing tricks from his show. Thanks to book drives held throughout the year, at the end of the assembly, each child is able to take a book home with them. For many kids this is the first book they can call their own. Local businesses and organizations interested in joining forces with Mac King by hosting a book drive to benefit Nevada Reading Week 2014 can email macking@preferredpublicrelations.com for more information.
