Hecho En Vegas Brings Sonoran Cuisine Steeped In Family Tradition To MGM Grand

HECHO EN VEGAS
HECHO EN VEGAS BRINGS SONORAN CUISINE STEEPED IN FAMILY TRADITION TO MGM GRAND

New Mexican Restaurant to Offer Homemade Cuisine,
Lively Atmosphere and Authentic Decor

Hecho en Vegas, the new Mexican restaurant at MGM Grand, will open on Saturday, December 28 with a grand opening to follow in January. The concept will present authentic Sonoran cuisine created by a legendary family that honors culinary tradition and excellence. Created from a partnership between MGM Grand and the Flores family, restaurateurs known for their iconic Arizona outposts El Charro Café and Sir Veza’s, the menu will feature dishes inspired by generations of the Flores family recipes. Located in the former Diego space, the 350-seat, cantina-style restaurant will offer guests a choice between patio seating with a prime view of MGM Grand’s bustling restaurant row or a seat within a vibrant, multi-colored dining room, both which boast a festive Mexican vibe. The restaurant will be open daily for dinner.

“To have a restaurant inspired by one of the most respected families in Mexican cuisine join MGM Grand’s culinary portfolio is an exciting moment for our resort,” said MGM Grand President and COO Scott Sibella. “The Flores’ knowledge of Sonoran fare and their passion for providing an authentic experience is unrivaled. Hecho en Vegas will be a family-inspired restaurant that offers exceptional cuisine, dedicated service and an unparalleled dining environment.”

El Charro Café has been a staple in Tucson for more than 80 years, having been created in 1922 by current co-owner Carlotta Flores’ great aunt Monica Flores. Born in France, Monica Flores relocated to Tucson and eventually to Mexico where she became enthralled with Mexican cuisine. Upon her return to Tucson, she decided to open a restaurant that reflected the flavorful Sonoran cuisine she had come to love. The restaurant quickly became a favorite of locals and tourists alike and still serves many original recipes. Dishes on Hecho en Vegas’ menu are inspired by those original recipes and prepared through traditional techniques.

El Charro Café and Sir Veza’s Co-Owner Ray Flores said, “My mother, Carlotta Flores, has been in the kitchen every day working with Hecho en Vegas’ talented team of chefs to ensure that each dish represents what she believes to be the best Sonoran cuisine. The menu will feature staples found at our award-winning El Charro Café as well as items created solely for the new MGM Grand location. We are thrilled to introduce our family’s culinary traditions to the Las Vegas market and be a part of the MGM Grand team.”

Menu Highlights:

  • Hand-made tamales, street tacos wrapped in hand-made tortillas, fresh torta bread, mesquite-grilled fajitas and rib-eye steaks;
  • Signature dishes include Enchiladas Banderas, a trio of beef, chicken and shrimp enchiladas served with verde, blanca and rojo mole sauces which represent the colors of the Mexican flag;
  • Ceviches in varieties including Sushi Grande Ceviche, Mariscos Coctel, and Ceviche Blanco;
  • The Sonoran Dog, a half-pound Angus beef hot dog fixed Sonoran style with charro beans, jalapeno street salsa, tomatoes, mustard and mayo;
  • Chicken, carne asada, pork carnitas and shredded beef Chimichangas, a dish that the Flores family is credited with inventing;
  • Available only in Las Vegas is the 702 Salsa, a spicy blend of fresh tomatoes and spices served with house-made tortilla chips.

The lively atmosphere is inspired by charros, Mexican cowboys known for dressing in elaborate, colorful clothing. The space features multi-colored walls, distressed leather barstools and tables embellished with intricate metal accents. Laser-cut pendant light fixtures hang throughout the space and televisions will alternate between playing black and white Mexican movies and live sporting events.

Now Open: Javier’s brings SoCal’s favorite fine Mexican cuisine to Vegas’ ARIA

JAVIER’S IGNITES LAS Vegas’ ARIA WITH FINEST FOODS FROM MEXICO AND CAPTIVATING ATMOSPHERE

Hit Southern California and Los Cabos Mexican Restaurant  Makes Strip Debut

Southern California hotspot Javier’s is now open at ARIA Resort & Casino. Javier’s regionally inspired cuisine and warm, intriguing design brings a spirit of Mexican grandeur to CityCenter while fulfilling a culinary niche for Las Vegas visitors.

“The dishes we present at Javier’s are derived from generations upon generations of my family’s recipes,” said Co-Founder Javier Sosa. “You will not find Mexican flavor like this anywhere else in Vegas.” A testament to Javier’s commitment to excellence and tradition, the restaurant’s nearly 200 employees underwent extensive training overseen by Sosa himself.

Bill McBeath, President and COO of CityCenter said, “Javier’s is an excellent complement to ARIA’s outstanding culinary offerings and introduces a completely new concept to the Las Vegas market. As a fan of Javier’s locations in Southern California, I can attest to the incredible experience and am confident this will quickly become a favorite destination for locals and tourists alike.”

Characterized by its authentic cooking techniques and fresh, high-quality ingredients, Javier’s regionally influenced Mexican-style fare is unrivalled outside of Mexico and features mouth-watering seafood, steaks, chicken and a selection of vegetarian dishes. A visit to Javier’s is not complete without one of its famous hand-shaken, made-to-order margaritas. Tequila aficionados can choose from an impressive array of premium selections to mix or sip from Javier’s signature “tequila tree,” while wine connoisseurs can enjoy an extensive collection of vintages and varietals.

Co-Founder Mark Post said, “Javier’s design is as captivating and delicious as the food we serve. The ambiance draws guests in, and no matter where they dine, they’ll enjoy a completely different experience each time they visit.”

Brought to life by veteran designer Dodd Mitchell, Javier’s welcomes guests with a dramatic and sensuous ambiance, and Mexican-influenced decor. The design juxtaposes strong, masculine architecture with soft, feminine color schemes and fabrics, such as corset-style lacing on the leather booths. A lounge adorned in 4,000 metal decorative nail heads called clavos, accented by plush furnishings, also enhance the look and feel of the space. Each culturally inspired decoration and piece of furniture was custom-made for the ARIA location, including hand-crafted pottery from Guadalajara, Mexico; reclaimed vintage belts adorning window and doorframes; and opalescent abalone tiles covering the walls and ceiling in the private dining room.

Over the main bar, hundreds of rope strands form an intricate canopy, creating a magnificent centerpiece that spills from the ceiling to the floor like a beam of light. Guests can sip Javier’s signature margaritas at the vintage-roulette-inspired metal bar topped with African Ziricote wood. Embedded in the bar are four state-of-the-art cell phone-charging hubs.

The artistic anchor of the restaurant’s décor is the world’s largest piece of chainsaw art, spanning 25 feet and weighing 3,000 pounds, carved by celebrated artist J. Chester Armstrong. Conceived by Dodd Mitchell Design and visible from more than 200 feet away, the intricate work of art features five 5 x 10-foot panels illustrating the Mayan Creation myth blended with modern Mexican history. Hundreds of Día de los Muertos-inspired skeletons dance, mourn, laugh, weep and romance their way across the panels as guests discover hundreds of hidden elements on a five-part journey from the dark Tree of Death to redemption in the Tree of Life.

Visitors can enjoy superior service in a variety of stunning rooms within the 9,000-square-foot restaurant, which features a circular main bar, intimate lounge and two expansive dining rooms seating 280 guests. Javier’s also has an elaborate private dining room with seating for 20. This special space evokes an aura of Spanish royalty and mystery with shimmering tile walls, agave-leaf-inspired chandeliers and hand-carved wooden ceiling ornaments. The lounge and bar offers Javier’s full menu and transforms into a sexy late-night experience at 11 p.m. Authentic Cuban and Spanish music adds culture and revelry to diners’ experiences.

Javier’s joins the AAA Five Diamond resort’s impressive culinary offerings from a collection of the world’s most renowned chefs and restaurateurs including Michael Mina, Sirio Maccioni, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Masa Takayama, Shawn McClain and Julian Serrano.

Javier’s offers lunch service from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and dinner service until 2 a.m. For reservations, please call 702-590-3637.

Mi Casa Grill Cantina in the Silverton Casino Hotel ~ Review and Pictures

micasa1The city of Las Vegas has a hidden gem in the Silverton Casino Hotel. It’s the Mi Casa Grill Cantina. If you like Mexican food like Vegas24Seven.com does then you should definitely try Mi Casa Grill Cantina. We were invited to partake in their south-of-the border cuisine and gladly accepted. Our family was warmly greeted and taken to a luxurious table with very comfortable seating. We were brought water and menus right away by waiter Cameron and his assistant and ordered our drinks.

Mi Casa Grill Cantina is known for their assortment of tequilas and margaritas but as always we were happy to drink soft drinks, iced tea and lemonade. It was then that Chef Earl came out and introduced himself. The chef was super nice, told us a little about himself, the restaurant and then made some recommendations for our dining experience. While we were waiting for the appetizers we enjoyed the tortilla chips and salsa. The chips were warm and tasty and all three of the salsa’s were very good. The chef even made us some extra hot habanero salsa that had an incredible smoky taste and an intense inferno of heat afterwards. We like it hot, that’s for sure. Our chicken taquitos and avocado fries arrived and these were some great appetizers. The avocado fries were unique in the texture and flavor and the accomanying chipotle ranch was awesome.

For dinner we ordered the Rancho Del Sur bistro steak and shrimp and the De Pollo Asado from the specialties menu. We  also ordered the carne asada tacos and beef fajitas. Chef Earl brought us out some us some especial pork/poblano com papa tamales that were beyond fantastic. My steak was juicy and tender and the shrimp had a wonderful sauce in it. The two worked well together and made for a great meal. The De Pollo Asado plate had the most tender chicken my son had ever eaten and lots of it. He kept raving that it was unlike any chicken plate he had ever eaten. The carne asada tacos were my daughters choice and she said they were great with lots of special sauce and juicy tender carne asada meat..  Judy said the fajitas were sizzling hot! The meat and vegetables were done to perfecion. The whole meal was wonderful!  All the dinner portions were huge and the meals looked just as good as they tasted.

For dessert we decided to share the Helado Frito fried ice cream and the chef recommended the Mi Casa Bananas. We should have ordered more as the fried ice cream was sooooo good that my daughter would barely let us get near it. It was OK though because the banana signature dessert was out of this world and my wife, son and I loved it. My son and I capped off the ultimate dining experience with some coffee and then we just sat there for a bit completely stuffed with some of the best Mexican food we have ever eaten. That’s saying something for a family that has been out West for over 30 years.

We really enjoyed the way that Chef Earl took a traditional Mexican menu and put his own special spin on it to make it a unique and tantalizing dining experience. He has been very successful doing that at the Silverton restaurants and other Vegas eateries previously. We actually spent quite a while talking with the chef and found out a lot about him and his culinary strategies. Not only is he a great chef he is someone you want to get to know more and consider to be a friend.

So we found the hidden gem and it won’t be long before every one in Vegas finds it too. So get over there and tell Chef Earl that Vegas24Seven.com sent ya’.
