Fly, drive, take a train, or even a cross-country road trip via taxi (like Phoebe & Joey in her Yellow Cab) to Las Vegas for a one-of-a-kind Friends 25th Anniversary celebration in the Entertainment Capital of the World, October 18-19. Warner Bros. Television Group joins AT&T and MGM Resorts International to offer fans a phenomenal Friends 25th Vegas takeover in all its glory, including new fan experiences powered by AT&T 5G.

In the fifth and sixth seasons of the hit comedy series, the Friends gang headed west to Las Vegas to visit Joey on the set of his movie. What happened there 10 years ago, however, did not stay there. In the two-part season five finale, Monica and Chandler took a roll of the dice and impulsively decided to get married –– only to discover that they were beaten to the chapel by a very drunk Ross and Rachel. In the season six premiere, the gang faced the consequences of the night before, while Joey and Phoebe headed back to New York in her grandfather’s Yellow Cab.

Visitors to Las Vegas can relive some of those moments –– minus any last-minute weddings –– in a weekend celebration of all things Friends October 18-19. Experiences planned for the Friends in Vegas weekend include:

Friday, October 18 

The Fountains of Bellagio

“I’ll be there for you, when the rain starts to pour…” On Friday, Oct. 18, the iconic Fountains of Bellagio will unveil a brand-new show set to the catchy Friends theme song, “I’ll Be There For You” by The Rembrandts. Created by WET Design, the show will debut at sunset on Friday and run on rotation throughout the weekend and beyond. There will also be exclusive photo opps with the Central Perk couch, which will be on site in front of The Fountains.

AT&T 5G Friends Fan Experience at The Brooklyn Bridge, New York-New York  

AT&T is bringing Friends to life in brand new ways, giving fans opportunities to interact with their six favorite friends in a massive and immersive custom built experience that’s more 2019 than 1994 –– but not without nostalgia!

Many of the experiences will be powered by AT&T’s live 5G network and its 5G Innovation Program members, including Ericsson’s 5G network equipment, Nokia network infrastructure and Samsung Galaxy S10 5G smartphones. The Fan Experience includes:

Phoebe’s Yellow Cab Escape Room

“It’s like you’re always stuck in second gear…” But for Friends fans, this will not only be their day, their week, their month, but also their year!  Located outside New York-New York Hotel & Casino, Phoebe’s Yellow Cab Escape Room offers the challenge of an escape room with the fun of a Friends trivia game, in a fully operational taxicab. Parked –– where else? –– on the Brooklyn Bridge, the Friends Escape Room allows fans to test their knowledge of the series inside Phoebe’s iconic mode of transportation. 

Here’s a sample to get you started:  Which of the following is not true?  A.  Phoebe inherited the cab from her grandfather.  B. Ross named it the “Death Cab” because of Phoebe’s driving abilities.  C.  Princess Consuela Banana-Hammock also owns the vehicle.  D. None of the above. If you guessed D, you’re a natural.  Head to Vegas to try your luck!

Central Perk LEGO®

Go big…or go home! At nearly 700 square feet, this re-creation of one of the series’ signature sets will be on display exclusively at New York-New York. Built out of 900,000 LEGO bricks over a period of four months, this life-sized re-creation from acclaimed artist Nathan Sawaya features everything from the iconic sofa to the latest menu board.

Fun Facts:  No one has ever built a life-sized TV set out of LEGO bricks before. Although the creators binge-watched every season of Friends, it took them longer to build the set than to watch the series. The furniture is all fully functional –– allowing visitors to sit on the couches and chairs. The signature orange couch took the longest time to build –– as the most challenging part of the process was replicating the patterns in the upholstery.

A miniature version of the LEGO Central Perk set is now available at retailers nationwide. 

The 7th Friend Experience

Fans can record a 3D version of themselves doing Chandler’s happy dance or their own favorite move. Using AT&T’s 5G with Ericsson’s 5G network equipment, fans can drop their virtual twin into a miniature replica of Monica and Rachel’s apartment. This experience uses data-intensive volumetric video to put you in the center of the action, which can be viewed on Samsung tablets and the Galaxy S10 5G.

Performance by The Rembrandts

“I’ll be there for you, like I’ve been there before…” The Rembrandts will perform an exclusive live set at The Park, the immersive outdoor dining and entertainment district located adjacent to New York-New York. Famous for their iconic theme song, the musical duo will be on hand to perform their hits and other Friends-related songs. The concert will also be livestreamed over AT&T 5G with Nokia to a big screen onsite to make sure you have the perfect view as you belt out those memorable lyrics.

Give it Your Best

What better way to celebrate Friends in Las Vegas than with a Friends-themed karaoke booth where fans can sing along to iconic music from the show.

Also in the neighborhood, keep an eye out for Marcel, Ross’s onetime pet Capuchin monkey. Although Marcel has gone on to a successful film career with Jean-Claude Van Damme and more, he’ll be on hand to meet and greet fans. Autographs are discouraged. 

Friends in 4K & Download Station

The show first aired in 1994 using 35mm film, but has since been remastered in Ultra HD quality. Check out the release of Friends in 4K as it’s streamed using new Samsung Galaxy S10 5G smartphones with its immersive 6.7” Dynamic AMOLED screen over AT&T’s 5G network with Nokia. Fans can also stream their favorite episodes or download them in a matter of seconds – much faster than 4G speeds.  Compare the difference in a side-by-side 5G and LTE download station. Blue Man Group – Blue Friends Couch

The world-famous Blue Man Group may not be able to pivot a couch, but they sure can paint one. From their home at Luxor Hotel and Casino, the enigmatic Blue Men will transform the iconic orange Central Perk sofa in a way that only this bald and blue trio could. Their newly painted creation will be on display inside Luxor on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group is excited to announce R.U.N – a groundbreaking new show and the entertainment group’s first live action thriller, premiering at Luxor this fall. R.U.N is an unprecedented entertainment experience, using live action performance, cutting-edge technology and multimedia to explore the world of stunts.

 

Audiences will be plunged into a sensory experience where special effects collide with human performance, pushing viewers to the edge of their seats. Chapter by chapter, guests will be taken through a gritty, cinematic story featuring bold, rebellious and fearless characters. The show will follow two clans in an adrenaline-filled adventure where a striking bride leads a series of fast-paced chases, combat and stunts through the fictional dark underground of Las Vegas.

For the fourth year MGM Resorts International is partnering with Spokane Hoopfest, the “Best Basketball Weekend on Earth,” to bring Las Vegas 3on3 to the Las Vegas Festival Grounds October 12 – 13. The “King & Queen of the Court High School Bracket” also is returning this year as local and out-of-state high school basketball teams are invited to bring their talents to Las Vegas to compete. This bracket will give teams the chance to take on some of the Nation’s best high school basketball competition, including the defending champions Findlay Prep Pilots, for an opportunity to be crowned “King & Queen of the Court.”

Dynamic and colorful dragon and lion dances will commemorate the Year of the Pig at Bellagio, ARIA, MGM Grand and Park MGM:

  • MGM Grand – Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 4 p.m. inside the main lobby with a processional through the casino.
  • PARK MGM – Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. inside Eataly with a processional through the casino into the hotel lobby.
  • Bellagio – Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 4 p.m. at the main porte cochere with a processional through the casino.
  • ARIA – Thursday, Feb. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the main valet with a processional through the casino. A special performance by Las Vegas’ Green Valley Ranch Marching Band will open the ceremony at 6 p.m.

Yau Kung Moon will perform the Chinese dragon and lion dances at all three resorts in a traditional Southern Shaolin Kung Fu system with a modern flair. Southern Shaolin Kung Fu is a collection of martial arts with more than 1,000 years of history. Yau Kung Moon, which translates to “Style of Flexible Power,” is one of the world’s most respected martial arts, dragon and lion dance organizations. Known for its trademark gold uniforms and innovative routines, Yau Kung Moon has been recognized internationally for being the first U.S. team to compete in the 1990 Invitational World Lion Dance Festival in Malaysia. 

Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens

Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens celebrates the Year of the Pig with a captivating display envisioned by renowned designer Ed Libby in collaboration with the Bellagio Horticulture team and Feng Shui Master George Yau. The gardens radiate hues of red and gold with 32,000 flowers, silk-lantern chandeliers and a family of pigs as the centerpiece.

Four happy, golden pigs welcome guests as they enter the Conservatory through breathtaking 20-foot jade medallions. Regarded as one of the most valuable and precious stones in Asian culture, jade signifies wisdom, bravery and honesty. Five pendants crown the top of the pavilion, each decorated with a gilded dragon.

A family of pigs capture visitors’ attention as they walk through the entryway surrounded by the riches of nature. Nine piglets are seen frolicking through fields of fruit and corn. Nearby, the North Bed depicts notable landmarks of Macau, including the Golden Lotus sculpture. The original sculpture marks the return of the sovereignty of Macau to China, marking its 20th anniversary this year. Across the gardens, a 32-foot tall replica of the Temple of Six Banyan Trees, a Buddhist temple in Guangzhou, China, towers over the South Garden closely guarded by two Chinese Fu Dogs. Giant red lanterns strung with fire crackers brighten the gardens overhead while koi fish swim in the tranquil pond below.

The Conservatory is complimentary and open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Lunar New Year display is open now through March 9.

ARIA

New information

ARIA’s main lobby is adorned in celebratory décor to honor the Year of the Pig.

Three Chinese Deities: Fuk, Luk and Sau, greet guests upon check-in at ARIA’s front desk. The deities personify the important aspirations of mankind: happiness, wealth and longevity.

A 196-foot dragon hangs from the lobby’s ceiling, weaving its way around a spectacular money tree made up of 88 golden coins symbolizing wealth and good fortune. Pigs surround the base of the tree.

Throughout the resort, guests encounter more than 50 spectacular floral arrangements, kumquat citrus trees with lucky money envelopes, a nine-foot pig covered in vibrant floral near the Baccarat Lounge and a special Buddha garden at North Valet.

MGM Grand

New information

MGM Grand’s main lobby recently transformed into a Lunar New Year spectacle with vibrant displays of eye-catching floral décor and playful panda bears surrounding the resort’s iconic lion. Custom filigree arches with Year of the Pig medallions also hang between the lobby’s columns. Throughout the resort, guests can enjoy cherry blossom trees, vibrant lanterns, kumquat bushes adorned with handcrafted Chinese art and dimensional Fuk symbols offering blessings of good luck, health and happiness.

    • From February 3-10, China Tang will offer a special “4 Hands” Chinese New Year dinner menu, along with additional dim sum lunch offerings, in celebration of the Year of the Pig. Created in collaboration by China Tang Executive Chef Larry Ng and Lai Sun Group Corporate Chef Albert Au Kwokkeung, the a la carte “4 Hands” menu will be available from 4 p.m. – midnight and will feature authentic dishes such as Crab Meat Pomelo Mango Salad, Crispy Chicken with Spring Onion, Stir-Fried Lobster and more. Additional dim sum offerings will be available during lunch service from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
    • In addition to the collaborative feast, MGM Grand’s Pastry Team will showcase two miniature replica chocolate sculptures of the Chinese New Year pig located at the bar.

High School Basketball Programs are Cordially Invited to Square Up Against Each Other October 27 – 28 in the New Tournament Bracket 

 

 Las Vegas 3on3 will introduce the Findlay Toyota “Prep King & Queen of the Court High School Bracket” at its new event location, Las Vegas Festival Grounds, October 27 – 28. Local and out-of-state high school basketball teams are invited to bring their talents to the famous Las Vegas Strip to compete in the new bracket sponsored by Findlay Toyota. This bracket will give teams the chance to take on some of the nation’s best high school basketball programs, including the defending champions Findlay Prep Pilots, for an opportunity to be crowned “King & Queen of the Court.” 

Since its 2007-08 season, Findlay Prep has been highly successful with 280 wins and only 19 losses. Findlay Prep has won three National High School Championships and has advanced to six National High School Tournament Final Fours.  Since 2010, eight Findlay Prep Pilots have been drafted by NBA teams, including 2013 No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett.  

“We wanted to bring the best high school athletes together for some friendly competition prior to their regular season,” said Daren Libonati, Vice President and General Manager of Festivals & Outdoor Venues for MGM Resorts International. “Playing in a 3on3 setting against a team known for producing some of the best high school athletes does not happen often, and I know the other teams are eagerly looking forward to having the chance to go head-to-head with one of the most elite squads in the country.”

The Findlay Toyota “Prep King & Queen of the Court High School Bracket” is priced at $140 per team. Teams will be bracketed according to height, gender, age and competition level. Registration is now open for the Findlay Toyota “Prep King & Queen of the Court Bracket.” Admission is complimentary for fans who wish to cheer on their favorite teams throughout the weekend.

MGM Resorts International is partnering for the third year with Spokane Hoopfest, the “Best Basketball Weekend on Earth,” to bring Las Vegas 3on3 to the Las Vegas Festival Grounds October 27 – 28, giving players of all heights and abilities the chance to become Champion. The event returns to Las Vegas and will once again present “Hoopfesters” the incredible opportunity to play basketball on the famed Las Vegas Strip.

Seventh annual event transformed Three Square headquarters into elegant social gathering in support of longstanding charitable campaign to benefit children in need


On Saturday, May 5, “Fashion for Three Square,” a special event underwritten by the Bennett Family Foundation, transformed Three Square’s north campus, which ordinarily houses operations, volunteering, food rescue, warehousing and distribution, into a grand party venue. The gathering featured elegant décor, fashion models, entertainment and local culinary tastes as attendees supported the Bag Childhood Hunger campaign, now in its seventh year.

The event featured fashions by Etro, presented by Neiman Marcus, along with food provided by top Las Vegas restaurants including: Blue Ribbon, STK, Buddy V’s Ristorante, La Strega, Libertine Social and Carnevino. In addition, Three Square’s executive chef John Hilton and his team prepared live dishes at the food bank’s demonstration kitchen & atrium. One of Three Square’s storage coolers was converted into an ice bar, featuring Artisanal Foods and Tito’s Handmade Vodka. MGM Resorts International provided an array of sweet treats. The event also welcomed entertainment from Las Vegas-based soul singer Jessica Manalo; Strip headliners The Australian Bee Gees, who performed hits from one of the most successful acts in musical history, the Bee Gees; and students from the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts.

Contributions made to Three Square’s Bag Childhood Hunger Campaign, which continues through May 31, will be used right here in Southern Nevada and will have double the impact thanks to a generous $500,000 contribution to match gifts toward the food bank’s goal to raise $2 million.

The Bag Childhood Hunger campaign supports one of the most vulnerable populations in Southern Nevada, children. Proper nutrition for children is critical as hunger can cause lasting physical and mental challenges. One in four children in Southern Nevada live in households that are food insecure. Additionally, more than 62 percent of children in Clark County schools are enrolled in free or reduced-price meal programs. That’s more than 203,000 students.

In its 10th year fighting hunger, Three Square is able to provide three meals for every dollar donated to the food bank. Thanks to the support of matching sponsors throughout this campaign, Three Square will be able to provide six meals for every dollar donated.

MGM Resorts International and New York-based Sydell Group have debuted the new pool oasis at the much-anticipated Park MGM. Channeling the sundrenched South of France, the vibrant outdoor escape features three pools, an oversized heated spa, 12 cabanas, lounge areas and multiple bars serving up delicious bites and beverages.

“Park MGM’s pool scene was designed as the focus for social gathering, an open-air enclave where guests can connect and unwind,” said Patrick Miller, Park MGM’s president and chief operating officer. “Balancing the energy of Vegas with the sophistication of a European retreat, we’ve created an alluring space that offers a variety of experiences for our guests.”

Guests can mingle among friends at one of three pools – the South Pool, the East Pool or the North Pool – while lively music evokes a cool, laid-back vibe. Martin Brudnizki Design Studio drew inspiration from the natural surroundings of a country estate, incorporating layered horticulture to shape each pool space.

In addition to chaises throughout the deck area, each pool boasts Baja shelf seating and submerged wet decks, allowing guests to sunbathe while staying cool. Those seeking an elevated experience can upgrade to the VIP area by the East Pool, where they’ll find deluxe cushioned chaises.

Pool Features

  • Craft Drinks – Three bars offer refreshing poolside cocktails, such as the Park Punch, a frozen pineapple cocktail and mix-and-match craft beer buckets. Guests can keep cool with drinks including young coconut, fresh fruit juices and a Bacardi Dragonberry rum-spiked Frosé topped with ripe strawberries. Vista Bar serves as the main pool bar, featuring a tropics-inspired beverage program and dedicated seating with a view overlooking the pool.
  • Poolside Bites – Light bites and poolside fare include mouthwatering dishes ranging from a Watermelon & Arugula Salad to Fajita Chicken Nachos. A Tuna Poke Bowl made with spicy tuna, pickled carrot, English cucumber, green onion, toasted sesame, nori and steamed rice offers a light treat ideal for Vegas’ hot summer days.
  • Reserved Seating – Chaise lounges are available for reservation throughout all three pools. Guests who reserve these seats will enjoy complimentary amenities throughout the day from frozen grapes to specialty cocktails.
  • Private Cabanas – Twelve private cabanas serve up VIP treatment with deluxe amenities including a 55” LED television; misting system; personal safe; and ample seating with plush cushions, lounges and umbrellas. MGM Resorts International is celebrating Lunar New Year 2018, the Year of the Dog, with festive dragon and lion dances and spectacular displays.

According to Chinese culture, the dog is the 11th animal in the Chinese Zodiac and is a symbol of fortune and longevity. Individuals born in the Year of the Dog are known to be responsible, loyal, honest and hardworking. They are always ready to help and enjoy putting others needs before their own.

In addition to experiencing traditional Lunar New Year menus throughout several MGM Resorts’ restaurants, guests are invited to celebrate with a series of special events:

Dragon & Lion Dances
Dynamic and colorful dragon and lion dances will commemorate the Year of the Dog at Bellagio, ARIA and MGM Grand:

  • MGM Grand – Friday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. inside the main lobby with a processional through the casino  
  • Bellagio – Saturday, Feb. 17 at 4 p.m. at the main porte cochere with a processional through the casino            
  • ARIA – Sunday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the main valet with a processional through the casino   

Yau Kung Moon will perform the Chinese dragon and lion dances at all three resorts, in a traditional Southern Shaolin Kung Fu system with a modern flair. Southern Shaolin Kung Fu is a collection of martial arts with more than 1,000 years of history. Yau Kung Moon, which translates to “Style of Flexible Power,” is one of the world’s most respected martial arts, dragon and lion dance organizations. Known for its trademark gold uniforms and innovative routines, Yau Kung Moon has been recognized internationally for being the first U.S. team to compete in the 1990 Invitational World Lion Dance Festival in Malaysia. 

Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens
Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens celebrates the Year of the Dog with a festive display envisioned by renowned designer Ed Libby in collaboration with the Bellagio Horticulture team and Feng Shui Master George Yau. The gardens are brought to life by colorful lanterns, thousands of I-Ching coins and a larger-than-life dog as the centerpiece.

Upon entering the Conservatory through the East Garden, visitors will walk through a circular dome draped in thousands of red roses and yellow forsythia. At the garden’s edge, ding pots – ancestral vessels that protect against bad fortune – burn incense from their peaks for good luck.

Capturing visitors’ attention as they walk through the entryway, an 18-foot Siberian Husky stands guard atop a mountain overflowing with I-Ching coins, a traditional Chinese symbol for money. A 16-foot Moon Gate towers over the South Garden, highlighting lush vegetation and a tranquil pond. Across the Conservatory in the North Garden is an 18-foot money tree flourishing with 384 oversized gold-leafed coins on its branches.

The Conservatory is complimentary and open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Lunar New Year display is open now through March 3.

ARIA
Beginning Friday, Feb. 9, ARIA’s main lobby will be adorned in celebratory décor to honor the Year of the Dog.

Three Chinese Deities: Fuk, Luk and Sau, will greet guests upon check-in at ARIA’s front desk. The deities personify the important aspirations of mankind: happiness, wealth and longevity. A 196-foot dragon will hang from the lobby’s ceiling, weaving its way around a spectacular money tree made up of 88 golden coins symbolizing wealth and good fortune. Dog sculptures covered in silver and gold leaves will be incorporated into the floral décor.

Throughout the resort, guests also will encounter cherry blossoms, Chinese lanterns and lions.

MGM Grand
On Thursday, Feb. 8, MGM Grand’s main lobby will transform into a Lunar New Year spectacle with a vibrant display featuring the iconic Leo the Lion surrounded by eight panda bears and eye-catching floral décor. Custom filigree arches with Year of the Dog medallions will hang between the lobby’s columns. Upon check-in, guests will be greeted by six panda bears on the banks of the front desk.

More than 70 employers to interview qualified candidates

Workforce Connections’ One-Stop Career Center, in partnership with the Las Vegas Review Journal, will hold the Nevada Day Super Hiring Event on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Boulevard Mall, 3538 Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas 89169, with the goal of placing qualified job candidates into new careers. The hiring event will open to the public at 10 a.m.

More than 70 employers such as Allegiant Travel Company, City of Las Vegas, Keolis, MGM Resorts International, Montevista Hospital, Simon Event Group, Tesla, UPS and more will have thousands of open jobs in career fields like health care, IT, manufacturing and hospitality. Employers will interview potential hires on-site during the event. There is no cost to the job seeker or employer to participate.

“The Nevada Day Super Hiring Event helps job seekers get critical face-to-face interaction with employers that can result in a hire,” said Kenadie Cobbin Richardson, Workforce Connections director of business engagement and communications. “We know Nevada is a great place to live and work. There are jobs available. Our mission is to create a ready workforce and connect job seekers with opportunities.”

In celebration of America’s military service members, Fremont Street Experience will host the 5th Annual Salute to the Troops featuring a special performance by Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band on Saturday, Oct. 14, free of charge. Coco, a healthy dolphin calf, is swimming her way into the hearts of guests and staff alike at The Mirage. The female calf, born July 17 at Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, was officially named this week after an employee contest that drew 300 entries.

Coco displays the initials of MGM Resorts International’s “One Company, One Culture” employee philosophy in reverse order.

Coco, her mother Huf n Puf, grandmother Duchess and sister Bella are in the Birthing and Research pool, which is open to public viewing during the facility’s operational hours. Together, these females represent three generations of dolphins at The Mirage. Sofi, an 11-year-old female, completes the female pod. The calf’s father, Lightning, is located in another pool.
