Great Vegas Festival of Beer Announces
Expansion, Relocation to Heart of Downtown Las Vegas
Early bird tickets on sale Thursday, Jan. 30

The 2014 Great Vegas Festival of Beer, Nevada’s largest independent craft beer festival, is joining the ranks of Downtown Las Vegas’ bustling community and introducing major upgrades when it hits the revitalized Fremont East Entertainment District on Saturday, April 26, 2014.

Motley Brews will once again expand the Great Vegas Festival of Beer to accommodate the growing local beer scene and attract more breweries and beer tourists than ever before. The extensive beer list will offer attendees a selection in excess of 250 brews from more than 80 breweries and the festival will feature new focus areas for beer-inspired culinary menus, mixology, educational elements, interactive exhibits, and live music entertainment.

“We are challenging perceptions of the traditional beer festival,” says Brian Chapin, founder at Motley Brews. “Being in the middle of Downtown Las Vegas sets the stage for an unparalleled experience.”

The move to Downtown Las Vegas will offer expansive festival grounds and reduce crowd density for better access to beer, food, and the music stage.  The festival will also provide beer fans with a unique integration into the local community, ensuring a variety of entertainment options at Downtown Las Vegas establishments.

Sales for the Great Vegas Festival of Beer will begin this Thursday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. Early Bird Tickets provide the best value for festival participants and will only be available for a short time before adjusted standard pricing takes effect on Sunday, Feb. 16.

Motley Brews is once again working with the Nevada Craft Brewers Association, a nonprofit advocacy group, to support local craftsmen and prominently feature great Nevada beers at the festival.  A portion of ticket sales will be donated to the Nevada Craft Brewers Association and their involvement will introduce some rare specialty beers brewed just for the Great Vegas Festival of Beer.

Nevada Craft Brewers to Create Inaugural Collaboration Ale for
Great Vegas Festival of Beer

Motley Brews is partnering with the Nevada Craft Brewers Association (NCBA) to create its first-ever collaboration beer —dubbed Pyrite Pale Ale—to serve as the official brew at the Great Vegas Festival of Beer.  Local craft brewers will begin the brewing process with a special ceremony on Friday, March 22 and the first keg of Pyrite Pale Ale will be tapped during the festival on Saturday, April 27 at Sunset Park.

Nevada Craft Brewers including Matt Marino of Joseph James Brewing Co., Anthony Gibson of Tenaya Creek Brewery, Dave Otto of Big Dog’s Brewing Co. and David Pascual of Chicago Brewing will gather in the Joseph James Brewery on Friday to begin brewing Pyrite Pale Ale, a process that will take about four weeks to complete.

The brewers aim to create an Extra Pale Ale with about 6.3 percent alcohol content, flavored and dry-hopped for aroma with Simcoe and Amarillo Hops, two hops varieties especially beloved to American Craft Brewers. The resulting ale will be a hoppy, aromatic and bold brew in a deceivingly light and summery body; the perfect complement to the spring festival.

Pyrite Pale Ale will premiere in the NCBA Pavilion at the Great Vegas Festival of Beer, where it will be showcased alongside several special one-off brews from local craft brewers.  The collaboration project represents a community effort engaging the brewers, drinkers and festival-goers.

“Craft beer is really a unifier in communities; local innovation and industry is something everyone can get excited about and enjoy, especially when it’s tasty,” said Motley Brews Founder Brian Chapin.  “Our festival participants are directly supporting local brewers and this is a way for them to say ‘thank you.’ We’re excited to see how it comes out.”

In addition, Motley Brews has launched a contest for beer enthusiasts to get involved by designing the official logo for Pyrite Pale Ale. The winner of the contest will receive VIP tickets to the Great Vegas Festival of Beer.  For more contest information, please visit the Great Vegas Beer Blog.

About the NCBA
The Nevada Craft Brewers Association is an extension of the Brewers Association, the official non-profit craft beer advocate in the United States. Motley Brews is excited to designate an area of the festival dedicated to local beer where members of the Nevada Craft Brewers Association will introduce some rare specialty brews made just for the Great Vegas Festival of Beer.
