SNOWDROP FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES $160,000 AWARDED IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO COLLEGE BOUND PEDIATRIC CANCER PATIENTS AND SURVIVORS.

Wednesday, July 16, Snowdrop Foundation will host their 8th Annual Scholarship Luncheon, at The Downtown Aquarium, where 58 pediatric cancer patients and survivors from across the United States will be awarded college scholarships.  This year’s scholarships totaled $160,000.

The scholarship program provides financial assistance to young adults as they move forward with their lives. This support helps empower young survivors & patients to achieve their educational, professional, and personal goals.

To qualify for a Snowdrop Foundation Scholarship, applicants must have been diagnosed with cancer before the age of 19.   The application is open to all childhood cancer survivors and current patients who currently attend or plan to attend an institution of higher education in the United States.  The scholarships are applied for annually and applicants can apply every year they are enrolled in school.

“In the eight years that the Snowdrop Foundation scholarship program has existed we have awarded 239 scholarships totaling $650,000,” states Snowdrop president and founder Kevin Kline.
This year our scholarship recipients will also receive Zymbol Pendants. ULTRA 55 Hour Race Raises over $97,000 for Childhood Cancer

On a cold and windy morning of December 30, 2013, over 150 racers from across the US (Arizona, California, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas)  toed the line in the inaugural Snowdrop ULTRA 55 Hour Race & Relay.  These racers, through the help of donors and sponsors, raised over $97,000 for Snowdrop Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancer and to providing scholarships for college-bound pediatric cancer patients and childhood cancer survivors.

A custom belt buckle awaited each of the 55 registered solo racers who could run at least 100 miles within the 55-hour time limit.  Of those 55, only 22 runners were able to reach the triple digit milestone.  The overall race winner, for most miles by a solo runner, was Brett Cole from Sugar Land, Texas who ran 136.8 miles. For his effort, Bret won a trip to Cancun, Mexico as the grand prize.

In the relay race, Team Wildebeests took the title as the 10 member team ran a total distance of 356.40 miles in 55 hours.

California ultra-runner Dee Cajiuat had this to say about the Snowdrop ULTRA 55 “When I arrived in Houston…you ALL were just names on a page, about to have the experience of a lifetime. Today, my heart is busting at the seams for having faces to match the names! Thank you all for making this So Cal gal feel the warmth and friendship of strangers pulling together for a cause. We run for those who can’t and pray for those we love. My heart is so full and I can’t wait to be back next year!”

This same list is what I also witnessed in some of the participants of the Snowdrop Ultra in trying to complete the grueling 55 hours in the cold and wind.”   Kline continued, “These runners purposely push their bodies so hard they were physically sick. Ultra running is not just about the running.  Ultra running puts athletes in situations that call on all sorts of life experiences and human emotions. I witnessed the love and support of total strangers. There is so much to learn in this sport. “

Ÿ Climbed 62,000 stadium stairs and then ran 18 miles to Texas Children’s Cancer Center

 

Kline has been recognized by Runner’s World Magazine, GQ Magazine and People Magazine. In 2012, he was awarded the Children’s Miracle Network Radio Supporter of the Year, inducted into the Energizer “Keep Going Hall of Fame” in 2011, was chosen the 2012 Man of the Year by Fort Bend Focus Magazine and was recently named a 2013 Ching’s Champion for community excellence created by Houston’s soccer great-philanthropist Brian Ching.

Ansari has earned critical praise for his role in NBC’s “Parks & Recreation” from media outlets including Entertainment Weekly, TV Guide and Yahoo! TV.  Additionally, People Magazine named him 2011’s “Funniest Dude in Primetime.” In 2012, Ansari released his second hour-long stand-up special titled “Dangerously Delicious,” a follow-up to his debut special on COMEDY CENTRAL titled “Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening.” The actor also is keeping busy in the film world and will next appear in “This is the End,” alongside Seth Rogan, Jonah Hill and James Franco, scheduled to be released later this year.

Ansari began performing stand-up comedy in 2001 while attending New York University and continues to perform worldwide. He recently embarked on the multi-city “Buried Alive Tour.” After hosting the highly popular 2010 MTV Movie Awards, Ansari began making regular appearances on late-night television including “The Late Show with David Letterman” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

HOUSTON RADIO HOST KEVIN KLINE ANNOUNCES AMBITIOUS 62,000 STEP STAIR RUN

Kevin Kline, Houston morning radio host on The New 93Q, will attempt to run 62,000 Stairs at Constellation Field, home of the Sugar Land Skeeters Baseball teamin Sugarland, TX.  Upon completing his stair run, Kline will then run 18 miles into Texas Children’s Cancer Center.  Step Up to Cure Kid’s Cancer happens onDecember 31, 2012 and kicks off with a children’s New Year’s Eve party.  The run ends on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2013.  The event is designed to raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer patients.

The number 62 is symbolic to Snowdrop Foundation asit stands for the maximum number of beds occupied at any given time by pediatric cancer patients at Texas Children’s Cancer Center. And, while Kevin is the only one scheduled to run 62,000 steps, other runners and 1st responders are encouraged to participate and run/walk stairs to help reach a group goal of 620,000 (10,000 stairs per child).

“I hope Step Up to Cure Kid’s Cancer will inspire people to donate for these amazing kids, and that every step will bring us one step closer to a cure,” said Kline.

“In conjunction with Kevin’s stair run, Snowdrop Foundation will host a children’s New Year’s Eve party,” revealed Executive Director Trish Kline.  Children 12 and are FREE, with a nominal fee of $10 for adults to attend.  The New Year’s party lasts from 3-7pm.

Some of Kline’s achievements include:

53 marathons/ultra-marathons over six years in 25 states as well as in Europe and South Africa

482 mile, 13 day solo run across Texas which raised over $200,000 and is featured in the award winning documentary Dear Chelsey.  www.dearchelsey.com

Ran 24 hours continuously on a treadmill then another 13.1 miles into the Texas Children’s Cancer Center; for a total of 90.15 miles

Ran 100K a day for 7 day then 15 miles into Texas Children’s Cancer Center.

Kline has been recognized by Runner’s World Magazine, GQ Magazine, and People Magazine. He was awarded 2010 Children’s Miracle Network Radio Supporter of the Year, inducted into the Energizer Keep Going Hall of Fame in 2011 and was recently named 2012 Man of the Year by Fort Bend Focus Magazine.
