More than 400 cases of Skin Cancer in Nevada are expected in 2013 according to the American Cancer Society

As the temperatures rise in Las Vegas, more people spend time outdoors enjoying barbecues, pool parties and hiking. While it is great to spend time outside, the importance of sun-protection shouldn’t be overlooked. In honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month in May, CTCA provides tips for Nevadans on sun safety. According to American Cancer Society, more than 400 cases of skin cancer in Nevada are expected in 2013.

“Skin cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in the United States according to the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” said Walter Quan, Jr., MD, melanoma specialist and chief medical oncologist at CTCA’s Western Regional Medical Center. “With dozens of day clubs in the city, pools in many backyards and hiking trails along Red Rock, sun safety for Las Vegans is vital and can help residents reduce their risk of developing skin cancer.”

Dr. Quan, believes in creating a culture of safety around sun exposure and in honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month in May, Dr. Quan and CTCA have created an infographic that features a variety of suggestions for individuals to limit their sun exposure and their risk of developing skin cancer.

UFC announces Las Vegas partnership for first annual International Fight Week


Las Vegas, Nevada – The Ultimate Fighting Championship® organization and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority are proud to announce the first annual International Fight Week will take place around the hottest ticket of the summer – UFC 148 – from July 3 through July 7.

International Fight Week will be the ultimate week-long experience for UFC fans. The inaugural week long celebration of the UFC will feature the largest ever gathering of fighters and unprecedented access to UFC stars, the biggest UFC Fan Expo yet, open workouts with UFC 148 fighters, pool parties and pub crawls hosted by fighters and Octagon Girls, a concert and, of course, the week will cumulate with one of the biggest sporting events of the year: UFC 148: SILVA vs SONNEN II.

Some of the most memorable UFC events in history have taken place around 4th July weekend and a firm tradition was born in July 2009, when the milestone UFC 100 event brought over 60,000 fight fans from around the world to Vegas.

The UFC’s ability to draw fans from not only all over the US but around the world to the company’s hometown has not gone unnoticed by the LVCVA. Now, the UFC and LVCVA have partnered to make the July fight event not just a Las Vegas tradition, but a signature sporting occasion which will draw fans from all over the globe to the fight capital of the world. This will become an annual tradition for the UFC in Las Vegas.

“For years the UFC has done a big Vegas show around the Fourth of July weekend and now we’ve made it a focal point in our calendar,” said UFC President Dana White. “For UFC 148, we’ve got fans coming in from all over the country, tons of people from Brazil and Canada and as far away as England, Japan and Australia to see this fight.

WHO:             Twelve of Nevada’s most accomplished and beautiful young women (19-29 years old, have no children and are not married) will compete for the Miss Nevada International 2012 crown.  Judged by: Eamon Springall (STITCHED Lifestyle LLC), Jen Coop (Mrs. Nevada State Director), Jennifer Bradley (SK&G Public Relations), Andre Haynes (Endeavor Media Group) and Andie Graff (Owner of So Lucky to Be Me).   Directed by Melissa Arias.
