After years of honing her signature style on hip-hop’s underground circuit, 4-time Grammy nominee Iggy Azalea burst onto the charts and emerged as the breakout story of 2014. Her smash hit, “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX, rocketed to #1, breaking airplay and Spotify records along the way. After an astounding 7 weeks at #1, Iggy Azalea made history on the Billboard Hot 100 as “Fancy” rewrote the record for the longest-leading No. 1 song by a female rapper. Iggy made chart history again as the first artist since The Beatles to rank at Nos. 1 and 2 simultaneously with their first two Hot 100 hits. “Fancy” has been unilaterally dubbed 2014’s “Song Of The Summer,” and has been covered by everyone from Saturday Night Live, to Jimmy Fallon, to Weird Al Yankovic. Iggy’s debut album The New Classic peaked at #1 on the Billboard Rap Album charts, a first for an international female artist. Iggy’s new single, “Black Widow” featuring Rita Ora, hit #1 at Top 40 and Rhythmic radio.

Bastille has been touring non-stop in support of its debut album, Bad Blood, which entered the U.K. albums chart at No. 1 and has sold over a million albums in the U.S. The band’s breakthrough hit “Pompeii” has now been certified four times Platinum by the RIAA in the U.S. It is certified Platinum (or multi-Platinum) in a total of seven countries, including the U.K., Australia, Canada and Italy. “Pompeii” is the most-streamed track of all time in the U.K. and one of the most-streamed tracks of 2014 on Spotify. The track has ruled at radio, topping Billboard’s Alternative Songs, Hot Rock Songs and Adult Alternative Songs charts and entering the Top 5 at the Mainstream Top 40 and Adult Top 40 formats. The official video has more than 125 million views. “Flaws,” the latest single from Bad Blood, is quickly climbing the Alternative radio charts.  In addition to its remarkable chart success, Bastille has been honored with a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. The group has won a BRIT Award, an mtvU Woodie and a Teen Choice Award and was nominated for two American Music Awards, five World Music Awards and numerous other honors.

Five years in from making his debut in pop music, Jason Derulo has sold more than 45 million records worldwide and amassed almost 1.5 billion views on his YouTube Channel.  His last song, “Wiggle,” featuring Snoop Dogg, is his eighth song to reach the Top 10 on the Top 40 format and his ninth platinum-selling single.  Derulo’s ubiquitous hit “Talk Dirty,” featuring 2 Chainz, was his most successful track to date, having sold more than six million singles worldwide with a music video that has garnered almost 250 million views on YouTube.  His fifth single from the Talk Dirty album, “Trumpets” is his fifth platinum song off of the album, putting him in an elite category of hit-making artists to accomplish the feat such as Drake (Take Care 2014), Katy Perry (Teenage Dream 2010), Bruno Mars (Doo Wops… 2010), Black Eyed Peas (The End 2009), Beyonce (Sasha Fierce 2008), P!nk (Funhouse 2008), Rihanna (Good Girl 2007) and Taylor Swift (Taylor Swift 2007). The Miami-native’s career started when he was 16 years old and began writing songs for artists like Lil Wayne, Pitbull, Diddy, Sean Kingston, Cassie and Danity Kane. He was the Teen Choice Awards 2014 “Choice Single Male” winner and also received two additional nominations including “Choice Summer Song” and “Choice Summer Music Star: Male.” The pop star’s video for “Talk Dirty” also earned him two additional nominations at the MTV Music Video Awards for “Best Pop Video” and “Best Choreography.”

Grammy-nominated vocal quintet, Pentatonix, is celebrating the Christmas season with the #1 holiday album in America.  That’s Christmas To Me, currently the #2 album on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart (#1 Digital, #1 Holiday) has already been certified gold and has been sitting atop the Holiday Chart since its release 7 weeks ago (2012’s PTXmas is currently #5 on the Holiday Chart).  The group’s six videos in support of the holiday album –  “Dance of The Sugar Plum Fairy,” “White Winter Hymnal,” “Winter Wonderland /Don’t Worry Be Happy” featuring Tori Kelly, “Mary, Did You Know?,” “Silent Night” and their original song and title track, “That’s Christmas To Me” – have been viewed more than 35 million times.  Consisting of vocalists Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado and Mitch Grassi, vocal bass Avi Kaplan and beatboxer Kevin “K.O.” Olusola, Pentatonix have also recently released PTX Vol. III which has already released 4 music videos, yielding more than 30 million views.  The group has eclipsed 7 million YouTube subscribers (more than both Avicii and Beyoncé), with more than 700 million cumulative views.  Their music video for “Daft Punk” has been viewed more than 100 million times and the medley earned the group their first Grammy nomination.

Rixton’s debut Me And My Broken Heart EP, featuring their multi-platinum hit single of the same title, cracked the Top 10 and Top 40 radio charts, climbed to No. 1 on the UK Singles chart and ranks one of the most Shazam-ed new tracks in the U.S., while the official video has racked up more than 40 million views on YouTube/VEVO. Rixton have delivered killer performances on Late Night With Seth Meyers, The Voice, Ellen, So You Think You Can Dance, The TODAY Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and more, in addition to being featured as an MTV 2014 “Artist To Watch” and a VEVO LIFT artist.  The band released their follow up track “Wait On Me” and just announced their new single “Hotel Ceiling” will be released in January.  Rixton will set out on a US tour supporting Ariana Grande in February prior to the release of their debut album Let The Road on March 3rd via School Boy/Giant Little Man/Mad Love/Interscope Records.  Hailing from Manchester, Rixton are Jake Roche, (vocals/rhythm guitar), Danny Wilkin (bass/keys), Charley Bagnall (lead guitar), and Lewi Morgan (drums).

New Award Will be the AMA’s Highest Honor

Swift Will Open the Show with the World Television Premiere of “Blank Space”

The Show Will Broadcast Live SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23rd
(8:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on ABC

dick clark productions and ABC announced today that Taylor Swift will be presented with the inaugural “Dick Clark Award for Excellence” at the 2014 American Music Awards.  Swift will be recognized for her historical album sales as the only artist in history to have three albums – “Speak Now, “Red” and “1989” — each debuting with more than 1 million sold in their first week. This year, in its first week, “1989” sold 1.287 million copies, making it the highest selling album released in 2014. Swift is the first recipient of the Dick Clark Award for Excellence, given to an artist who achieves a groundbreaking feat or creates a landmark work.  It is to be bestowed upon someone whose spirit and excellence capture the visionary passion that Dick Clark himself incorporated into everything he did.

Clark, the creator of the 42-year-old American Music Awards, influenced popular music in America for six decades. He was known for maintaining a standard of excellence both in the shows he produced and in the talent that he showcased. Simultaneously “America’s Oldest Teenager” and the most trusted name in music, Clark was responsible for the first TV appearances of many superstars including Michael Jackson, Madonna and Prince. Taylor Swift, who also made her debut on a Dick Clark Production show, will be honored with this prestigious award with Clark’s wife, Kari, in the audience, along with a theatre full of stars who grew up on Clark’s programs. This promises to be one of the most significant moments in the rich history of the AMA’s.

“The first time Dick saw Taylor perform, he knew she was something special,” said Kari Clark, wife of the late Dick Clark.  “He would be thrilled to know she is the first artist to receive the Dick Clark Award for Excellence.”

“The American Music Awards most closely reflects Dick Clark’s philosophy of popular music. It provides a platform for the biggest music artists of the day, with the winners voted on by the fans,” said American Music Awards producer Larry Klein.  “Clark always said, ‘Music is the soundtrack of our lives,’ and no one’s recent music has provided a more meaningful soundtrack for the lives of music fans than Taylor Swift.”

Swift will also take to the stage to open the show with the world television premiere performance of her new single “Blank Space”.  She joins a line-up of must-see artists including 5 Seconds of Summer, Mary J. Blige, Garth Brooks, Charli XCX, Fergie, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Imagine Dragons, Jessie J, Lil Wayne, Lorde, Magic!, Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Sam Smith, and the evening’s host, Pitbull.  Additional stars slated to present throughout the evening include Uzo Aduba, Jhene Aiko, Elizabeth Banks, Aloe Blacc, Lauren Cohan, Gavin DeGraw, Ansel Elgort, Jamie Foxx, Becky G, Brantley Gilbert, Danai Gurira, Lucy Hale, Ella Henderson, Julianne Hough, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Kira Kazantsev, Heidi Klum, Mary Lambert, Rose McGowan, Danica McKellar, Pat Monahan, Olivia Munn, Kevin O’Leary, Pentatonix, Tracee Ellis Ross, Taylor Schilling and Meghan Trainor. The 2014 American Music Awards will broadcast live from the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23rd (8:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on ABC.  Additional performers and presenters will be announced soon.

Taylor Swift is the only artist in history to have three million-selling weeks (2010’s Speak Now, 2012’s RED and 2014’s 1989) and the only artist to have two singles hit No. 1 on Billboards HOT 100 Chart this year. Taylor is a global superstar and seven-time GRAMMY winner, and the youngest winner in history of the music industry’s highest honor, the GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year. She is the first artist since the Beatles (and the only female artist in history) to log six or more weeks at #1 in the U.S. with three consecutive studio albums. Taylor has an album on Rolling Stone’s prestigious The 50 Greatest Albums of All Time (by women) list, Time magazine has named her one the of the 100 Most Influential People in the world, and she is Billboard’s youngest-ever Woman of the Year and the only artist to have been awarded this honor twice. Taylor has career record sales in excess of 30 million albums and more than 80 million song downloads worldwide, and has had singles top both the pop and country radio charts around the globe. Taylor’s album RED, released two years ago, sold more than 1.2 million copies in the U.S. in its first week. The only other album to sell more than RED was her critically acclaimed fifth studio album, 1989, the highest selling release since 2002 and the only album to go platinum in 2014. 1989 sold almost 1.3 million albums release week topping Billboard’s Top 200 charts and iTunes’ sales charts in 95 countries on its release. 1989 has sold almost three million copies globally and tops Billboard Top 200 for a third week.  “Shake It Off,” the first single from 1989, topped Billboard’s Pop, HotAC and Hot 100 charts and has earned double Platinum-status by the RIAA for exceeding sales of two million downloads in the U.S.  Her current single “Blank Space,” immediately skyrocketed to the top of the Hot 100 and iTunes chart on its debut.

RISE AGAINST ADDED TO THE LINEUP FOR ROCK IN RIO USA TAKING PLACE MAY 2015 IN LAS VEGAS

The Punk Rock Band is Scheduled to Appear on the Main Stage on the Same Date as Metallica and Linkin Park

Rock in Rio has announced Rise Against will perform on the Main Stage during the first weekend of Rock in Rio USA, taking place in Las Vegas on May 8-9 and 15-16, 2015. The Chicago punk rock band will appear on May 9, the same date as previously announced Main Stage performers Metallica and Linkin Park.

After 15 years, and six incendiary albums, Rise Against have become one of the most successful, challenging and revered punk rock bands on the planet. While selling four million albums globally across their last four releases — with 2011’s “Endgame” debuting at number one in Germany and Canada, and number two on the U.S. Billboard charts — they’ve also always adhered to the idea of music as a vehicle for change.  Rise Against’s new album “The Black Market” debuted at #3 on Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart and the debuted at #1 in Germany, Australia and Canada where it has already achieved gold status.

In doing so, they’ve appeared alongside superstars like Adele and Sting on Amnesty International’s “Chimes Of Freedom — The Songs Of Bob Dylan” compilation in 2012, toured with Rage Against The Machine’s iconic guitarist Tom Morello, campaigned against gun violence with the Demand A Plan organization and advocated the Make It Stop campaign’s attempt to raise awareness of LBGT teen suicides and bullying, working closely with “It Gets Better.” It’s important to keep this rich heritage of protest in mind when discussing “The Black Market.”

Rise Against is the latest addition to an already stellar Main Stage lineup including Bruno Mars, No Doubt, Metallica, Linkin Park, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and many others to come.  Rock in Rio has also announced initial artists for the festival’s Sunset Stage including Deftones, John Legend and Joss Stone.

Rock in Rio USA will take over the Las Vegas Strip for the first time on May 8-9 and May 15-16, 2015.  The City of Rock will host more than 100 performances over 4 days. The venue will also host three Rock Streets that capture the sounds and culture of Brazil, UK and the U.S. with dozens of performers, bands and street artists, as well as an Electronic Stage.

MUSIC SUPERSTAR TAYLOR SWIFT TO HEADLINE AMERICA’S BIGGEST CELEBRATION OF THE YEAR

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2015

MUSIC SUPERSTAR TAYLOR SWIFT TO HEADLINE AMERICA’S BIGGEST CELEBRATION OF THE YEAR

“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2015″ Begins Live at 8pm ET/PT on ABC Live from New York’s Times Square

Before the ball drops on New Year’s Eve, global music sensation Taylor Swift will culminate another record-breaking year with a performance of her hit songs for over 1 million fans in Times Square live on ABC’s telecast of “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2015.” Swift will join a stellar line-up of the year’s top music artists in celebrating the New Year during the biggest live music celebration in show history with over 38 performances and 5½ hours of music. “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2015” will air on Wednesday, December 31 beginning at 8:00 pm ET/PT on ABC Television Network.

The bi-coastal celebration will include hours of special performances and reports on New Year’s celebrations from around the globe, and Ryan Seacrest will lead the traditional countdown to midnight from Times Square in New York City as he has for the last 9 years.

“Each year New Year’s Rockin’ Eve continues its iconic legacy by delivering incredible performances from the year’s hottest artists, and this year is no exception. We already have secured an unprecedented number of music acts, culminating with a Times Square performance by Taylor, the biggest superstar in music today,” said host and executive producer Ryan Seacrest.

Taylor Swift, who writes all of her own songs, is a global superstar, seven-time GRAMMY winner and the youngest winner in history of the music industry’s highest honor, the GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year. She is the first artist since the Beatles (and the only female artist in history) to log six or more weeks at #1 in the U.S. with three consecutive studio albums. Taylor has an album on Rolling Stone’s prestigious The 50 Greatest Albums of All Time (by women) list, Time magazine has named her one of the 100 Most Influential People in the world, and she is Billboard’s youngest-ever Woman of the Year and the only artist to have been awarded this honor twice. Taylor has career record sales in excess of 30 million albums and almost 80 million song downloads worldwide, and has had singles top both the pop and country radio charts around the globe. Taylor’s album RED, released almost two years ago on Big Machine Records, has sold more than 6 million copies worldwide to date, including more than 1.2 million copies in the U.S. in its first week, scoring the highest first-week sales debut of any album in over a decade. Taylor is the only female artist in music history (and just the fourth artist ever) to twice have an album (2010’s Speak Now and 2012’s RED) hit the 1 million plus first-week sales figure. “Shake It Off” is the first single off her critically-acclaimed fifth studio album 1989 (Big Machine Records). The single has topped Billboard’s Pop, HotAC and Hot 100 charts and has earned double Platinum-status by the RIAA for exceeding sales of two million downloads in the U.S., and has peaked at No. 1 in 64 countries on iTunes.

“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2015” is produced by dick clark productions with Ryan Seacrest, Allen Shapiro and Mike Mahan serving as executive producers and Barry Adelman and Mark Bracco as co-executive producers. Larry Klein is producer.

The theme of love has run through multiple editions of the international festival, with the first wedding taking place at Rock in Rio Brazil in 2011 at the request of one lucky couple.  The wedding attendee that caught the bouquet at this 2011 ceremony continued the magic at the 2013 festival, where she also got married at the City of Rock.  There was also a wedding at Rock in Rio Lisbon in 2014.  Now the tradition continues in a major way at Rock in Rio USA.

SPECIAL AWARDS

Career Achievement Award – Toby Keith and Ronnie Milsap have been chosen to receive the Career Achievement Award, honoring an individual artist, duo, group or multiple artist collaboration that have advanced the popularity and acceptance of country music through their endeavors in the entertainment industry in multiple areas during the preceding calendar year.

Toby Keith has been riding high ever since his 1993 debut single, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.” The Oklahoma native took the reins in 1999 by switching record labels and releasing the bold album, How Do You Like Me Now? Since that time, he’s won ACM Awards for Entertainer of the Year (2002, 2003), Male Vocalist of the Year (2000, 2003), Album of the Year (2000, 2003) and Video of the Year (2003, 2011). In addition to his 20 No. 1 country singles, he’s enhanced his unmistakable brand through movie roles (Beer For My Horses) and Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill restaurants. Since 2002, Keith has performed on 11 USO tours in 21 countries, including Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan.

Ronnie Milsap brought a pop and R&B sensibility to country music in the 1970s and 1980s, even as his rich, clear voice rang true as country. Forty years ago, the North Carolina native marched to No. 1 with “Pure Love,” paving the way for a total of 49 Top 10 hits on Billboard’s country chart. He won his first ACM Award as the 1982 Male Vocalist of the Year. Three years later, “Lost in the Fifties (In the Still of the Night)” claimed Song of the Year. Milsap received the 2001 Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award and will release a new album in March.

Past recipients of the Career Achievement Award include John Anderson, Vince Gill, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Johnny Paycheck, Carl Perkins, Reba and Kenny Rogers.

Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award – Bob Beckham has been chosen to receive the Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award, honoring individuals who are pioneers in the country music genre.

Bob Beckham is remembered as a true music fan who took chances on unknown songwriters. Beckham was hired by Fred Foster at Combine Music in 1964. Two of his most celebrated songs have also collected Single Record and Song of the Year awards from the ACM: “Okie From Muskogee” (1969) and “Are the Good Times Really Over” (1982). A winner of the ACM Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award and Poet’s Award, Haggard joined the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994. In 2014, he will celebrate the milestone of 50years in country music.

Gene Weed Special Achievement Award – Carrie Underwood has been chosen to receive the Gene Weed Special Achievement Award, which acknowledges unprecedented, unique and outstanding individual achievement in country music.

Carrie Underwood represents country music with class, whether she’s dazzling viewers of NFL Sunday Night Football or starring in a live broadcast of The Sound of Music. Her Blown Away Tour traveled to London’s Royal Albert Hall, followed by extensive dates across the U.S. and Canada. Upon completing the tour, she donated $1 million to the American Red Cross for disaster relief. She continues to support her hometown of Checotah, Okla., through her C.A.T.S. Foundation. Underwood is a rare ACM Triple Crown recipient, following wins as New Female Vocalist of the Year (2005), Female Vocalist of the Year (2006, 2007, 2008) and Entertainer of the Year (2008, 2009).

Past recipients of the Gene Weed Special Achievement Awardinclude Garth Brooks, George Burns, Jeff Foxworthy, Willie Nelson, Blake Shelton and George Strait.

Jim Reeves International Award – Steve Buchanan and Rascal Flatts have been chosen to receive the Jim Reeves International Award, which is presented to an artist for outstanding contributions to the acceptance of country music throughout the world.

Steve Buchanan strives to provide a gateway for fans around the globe to discover country music. A Tennessee native, Buchanan is the president of the Opry Entertainment Group. In that role, he has positioned the Grand Ole Opry to be viewed as a vital, world-class tourist destination that embraces contemporary and classic artists. After the Nashville flood of 2010, he led efforts to modernize the venue during its renovation. In addition, his executive producer role for ABC’s Nashville gives insight to the inner workings of Music Row. He is currently working on mounting a Broadway show based on the long-running TV show Hee Haw.

Rascal Flatts carried their high-energy Live & Loud Tour to Europe in July 2013, enjoying sold-out crowds, widespread television exposure and significant digital sales. The group performed a total of seven shows across Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Ireland. Along with packed houses, the trio appeared on BBC’s Breakfast TV and grabbed the No. 1 spot on the UK iTunes country chart. They will return in March to Dublin and London as part of the all-star Country to Country 2014 event. Rascal Flatts will launch their Rewind Tour this spring, with dates scheduled throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Past recipients of the Jim Reeves International Award include Garth Brooks, Dick Clark, Roy Clark, Merv Griffin, Alan Jackson, Charlie Nagatani, Buck Owens, Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, and Lady Antebellum, among others.

Mae Boren Axton Award – Paul Moore has been chosen as the recipient of the Mae Boren Axton Award, which is given in recognition of years of dedication and service by an outstanding individual to the Academy of Country Music.

Paul Moore has been an integral part of the William Morris team in Nashville for more than 35 years. He began his career there in 1978 as a secretary to the head of the office. In time, he became part of the management team for William Morris and later William Morris Endeavor. For 23 years, he was co-head of the agency’s Nashville office. He remains involved in booking concert dates for WME clients at major fairs, rodeos, outdoor events and festivals, and oversees tour commitments for numerous country legends. Moore is a longtime board member for the Academy of Country Music and currently serves as Parliamentarian.

Past recipients of the Mae Boren Axton Award include John Dorris, Rod Essig, Gayle Holcomb, Jack Lameier, Marge Meoli, Ray Pilzak, Gaynelle Pitts, Gene Weed, Tommy Wiggins and David Young.

Poet’s Award – Jack Clement (awarded posthumously), Dean Dillon, Kris Kristofferson, and Buck Owens (awarded posthumously),have been selected to receive the Poet’s Award, which honors songwriters for outstanding musical and/or lyrical contributions throughout their careers in the field of country music.

“Cowboy” Jack Clement’scareer stretched back to Sun Records, where the Memphis native mixed 1950s recording sessions by Johnny Cash. Two of Cash’s early hits were written by Clement: “Ballad of a Teenage Queen” and “Guess Things Happen That Way.” A few years later in Texas, George Jones cut Clement’s “A Girl I Used to Know.” In Nashville, Clement opened a publishing company and signed Bob McDill, Allen Reynolds and Don Williams. Clement joined the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1973. He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in April 2013, four months before his death.

Tennessee native Dean Dillon hitchhiked to Nashville to pursue a music career as a recording artist, but he found his biggest successes as a prolific songwriter. He penned hits for George Jones (“Tennessee Whiskey”), Keith Whitley (“Miami My Amy”), Toby Keith (“A Little Too Late”) and Kenny Chesney (“A Lot of Things Different”). Dillon truly found his muse in George Strait, who built his legendary career on Dillon’s unique songs, including his debut single “Unwound” followed by “The Chair,” “Nobody in His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her,” “It Ain’t Cool to Be Crazy About You,” “Ocean Front Property,” “Marina Del Rey” and “If I Know Me” to name a few. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002.

Kris Kristofferson emerged as a songwriting force in the 1970s. He used his widely varied experiences—from Rhodes Scholar to Army helicopter pilot to janitor at Nashville’s Columbia Studios—to craft some of the most emotionally compelling story songs ever written. His composition “For the Good Times,” recorded by Ray Price, received 1970 ACM Awards for Single Record and Song of the Year. In addition to solo success with “Why Me,” Kristofferson’s songs have been immortalized by Johnny Cash (“Sunday Morning Coming Down”), Janis Joplin (“Me and Bobbie McGee”), Ronnie Milsap (“Please Don’t Tell Me How the Story Ends”) and Sammi Smith (“Help Me Make It Through the Night”). Born in Texas, Kristofferson joined the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004 and received the ACM Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award in 2005.

Buck Owens’ boisterous single “Love’s Gonna Live Here” spent an astonishing 16 weeks atop the country airplay chart in 1963. He followed that composition with more original material like “My Heart Skips a Beat,” “Together Again” and “I’ve Got a Tiger by the Tail,” writing the latter with Harlan Howard. An icon in the Bakersfield, Calif., country scene, Owens received the 1965 ACM Award for Male Vocalist of the Year and his band The Buckaroos won three consecutive ACM trophies. He joined the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1996 and accepted the ACM Pioneer Award in 1988. Owens died in 2006.

Previous recipients of the Poet’s Award include Bill Anderson, Bobby Braddock, Guy Clark, Hank Cochran, Merle Haggard, Tom T. Hall, Harlan Howard, Roger Miller, Fred Rose, Don Schlitz, Cindy Walker and Hank Williams.

ABOUT THE LEGENDARY MERLE HAGGARD:
At the age of 76, the veteran singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer/bandleader is still making some of the most compelling music of his long and storied career.  It almost goes without saying that Merle Haggard is widely regarded as country music’s greatest living recording artist.  A rugged individualist who simultaneously embodies and transcends the genre, Haggard is both a seminal superstar and an unrepentant outsider.  Over the course of a remarkably prolific five-decade career, he’s consistently shown himself to be an uncompromising creative force, far more concerned with pursuing his iconoclastic vision than with meeting the expectations of the music-industry establishment.

Along the way, Haggard has scored no less than 39 #1 country hits; won various Grammy, CMA and ACM awards; become the only California-born artist in the Country Music Hall of Fame; been the only country performer ever featured on the cover of the jazz bible Downbeat; as well as the only man to be invited to perform at the White House and invited to serve time in San Quentin Penitentiary.

His prison experiences led Haggard—who’d begun playing guitar at the age of 12 and worshipped Bob Wills, Lefty Frizzell and Hank Williams—to take stock of his life and decide to pursue a career in music.  Upon his 1962 release, he became a fixture on Bakersfield, California’s thriving country music scene, working manual labor jobs by day and playing local clubs by night.  A string of singles for the local Tally label led to a deal with Capitol Records, and in 1965 Haggard launched an incredible string of classic hits including “Swinging Doors,” “The Bottle Let Me Down,” “I’m a Lonesome Fugitive,” “Branded Man,” “Sing Me Back Home,” “Today I Started Loving You Again,” “Mama Tried,” “Hungry Eyes,” “Silver Wings,” “Workin’ Man Blues,” “The Fightin’ Side of Me,” “If We Make It Through December” and the much-misunderstood  “Okie From Muskogee.”

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Awards counts for artists reflect categories in which they have been recognized as individuals or as part of their duo or group. In some cases, an artist may receive more than one nomination which factors into their official count. For example, Tim McGraw received two nominations in the Album of the Year category—one each as artist and producer—because that category recognizes both.

Award recipients in each category are noted above parenthetically in the Album of the Year, Single Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Video of the Year and Vocal Event of the Year.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD LIFE STORY TOLD IN NEW COMIC BOOK

Bluewater Productions will be releasing a new comic book about the life of singer Carrie Underwood.  Fame: Carrie Underwood is released on November 13; the comic book will be available in print and digital.

What happens when a small town girl will stop at nothing to follow her dreams? Carrie Underwood is what happens. A story of faith, determination and inspiration. FAME: The Carrie Underwood Story follows the Superstar’s trials and tribulations, leading her to become the top female performer of our era.

Loyd Gant writes the 32-page comic book with art by Manuel Diaz. The comic book will feature a cover by famed artist Nelson Hernandez.

“We get a lot of requests on subjects to tell their stories in this unique medium.  Carrie Underwood has always been at the top of the list when people mention to us who they would like to see a comic book of”. Says publisher Darren G. Davis.

“Carrie Underwood rose to fame after winning the 4th season of American Idol in 2005. This is the story of how a girl from a town in Oklahoma came to conquer the hearts of millions of people with her beautiful voice. For me it has been very exciting to draw this biography and to know the brilliant career of this young artist,” artist Manuel Diaz.

Bluewater has focused on the country music scene before with Fame: Tim: McGraw and Fame: Taylor Swift, which are both still available in print on Amazon.

Upcoming FAME subjects include: Ian Somerhalder, Pink & Brad Paisley.

Lexi Ulmer: A Bright New Songwriter Sends Contemporary Country Soaring

Lexi Ulmer: A Bright New Songwriter Sends Contemporary Country Soaring

It makes sense; an artsy small town named after a colorful, energetic bird hatches a bright singer/songwriter. Just 18, Lexi Ulmer’s career took off three years ago when she was cast as the lead in an independent film, Blake’s Ballad. This dramatic short quickly attracted attention and debuted at the prestigious Lake Arrowhead Film Festival.

As appealing as an acting career might be, Ulmer’s true passion is music. She composed two original songs for the film and was subsequently invited to perform her original work at the 2010 Ventura Film Festival. She finds songwriting a useful outlet. “I write songs about my life, love in particular,” she says. “I’ve never been in love, but I’ve always been fascinated with it.” While she started writing songs seven years ago, her work took on an added depth in high school.

“I had a crush on the football star,” she admits with a wry smile. “I wasn’t entirely sure what to do about it, so I started coming home and writing songs about trivial things…like his girlfriend. It then progressed into something that I constantly had to be doing. I could barely hold conversations without having a million ideas bouncing around in my head.” Ulmer is often compared to Taylor Swift. Like Swift, Ulmer grew up daydreaming about a future in the music industry and writing poignant songs about personal experiences.

A child of her times, Ulmer recognizes the power of the internet. She has long been posting performance videos of original songs as well as cover music online. In August 2012, Kerry Kessel of KALM Talent Group stumbled upon the young artist during an online talent search. Fans of contemporary country can expect to hear a lot more of this California songbird in the months ahead.

Sighting: Jennifer Lopez Attends All-New Jabbawockeez Show in Las Vegas on May 20

Last night, iconic pop star Jennifer Lopez and boyfriend Casper Smart showed support for the world-famous dance crew Jabbawockeez by attending their all-new headlining show “PRiSM” at Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Taking it back to her days as a Fly Girl, Lopez grooved to old school jams in her seat, and even stood up with the audience to participate in a popular dance led by the Jabbawockeez. The show opened just three days ago, making Lopez one of the first to experience the new headlining show from the dance crew known for their white masks and captivating dance moves. Lopez was in town following her recent performance at the Billboard Music Awards, where Jabbawockeez also had an outstanding performance with superstar Taylor Swift.

A celebration of imagination, “PRiSM” is the latest production by the Jabbawockeez, which blends awe-inspiring choreography, entertaining storylines, vivid costumes, and chart topping hits, for a one-of-a-kind musical experience. About Tim McGraw
For 20 years, McGraw has been providing that kind of powerful connection with his audience. With Two Lanes of Freedom, his new album—and first release for Big Machine Records—the singer is covering his broadest emotional range yet, with a set of songs that looks forward and back, gets deep and gets loose, and reveals that even the biggest stars can continue to grow with consistency and maturity.

In his record-shattering career, McGraw has sold more than 40 million albums, and dominated the charts with 33 No. 1 singles. Since the release of his debut album in 1993, he has won three GRAMMYs, 15 Academy of Country Music Awards, 12 Country Music Association Awards, and 10 American Music Awards, while simultaneously maintaining a parallel career as a successful actor in such films as “The Blind Side,” “Country Strong,” and “Friday Night Lights”—as well as hosting Saturday Night Live, a rare honor for a singer in any genre.
