Next month, Nevada teachers can take a break from planning lessons to take a ride on the world’s largest observation wheel. From Sept. 1 through Sept. 30, teachers* will receive a free ride on the High Roller. Friends and family members accompanying teachers will receive 50 percent off their ticket prices.

Topping out at 550 feet, the High Roller is the focal point of The LINQ Promenade, the open-air shopping, dining and entertainment district, that redefines the iconic Las Vegas skyline. Students can also get in on the action with field trips, behind-the-scenes tours and 50 percent off their ticket price with a valid ID.

For the 2017-18 school year, teachers may also take their classes on a field trip the students will be sure to remember. The High Roller and the Clark County School District (CCSD) have created the opportunity for K-12 students to learn about critical science, technology, engineering arts and mathematics (STEAM) subjects in a thrilling way. In conjunction with the CCSD Community-Partnership Program, the High Roller field trip takes students behind the scenes while exploring the design and engineering behind the wheels of the world.

Age-appropriate lesson plans designed for grades K-2, grades 3-5, grades 6-8 and grades 9-12 combine classroom instruction with field trips to the High Roller, where STEAM subjects will be brought to life. K-2 students will describe and model their favorite kind of Ferris wheel during the classroom portion of the lesson plan. Students in grades 3-5 will be asked to design a new attraction for the Las Vegas Strip that is safe, cost-effective and energy efficient. Students in grades 6-8 will study the sum forces acting upon the Ferris wheel that enable it to rotate continuously. Finally, high school students will focus on the full design of a Ferris wheel by creating models, safety protocols and a full operation plan for the structure. Students in all grades will have the opportunity to ride the High Roller in person, after which they will have a chance to revise their classroom work based on observations made during the field trip.

To purchase tickets or to book a field trip, go to

*Teachers must show Nevada teaching credentials to receive the complimentary ride. The free offer is limited to one ride per teacher. To receive 50 percent off, teachers’ friends and family promotional code is HRTE50 and students must use HRWSTU. Offers are not valid with Happy Hour cabins. Limit four tickets per transaction.

The LINQ Promenade, an open-air shopping, dining and entertainment district, anchored by the world’s tallest observation wheel, the High Roller, has redefined the iconic Las Vegas skyline. Located at the heart of the world-famous Las Vegas Strip, The LINQ Promenade features more than 30 unique retail, dining and entertainment venues and plays host to a variety of special events, festivals and more. Topping out at 550 feet, the High Roller observation wheel, voted “Best Attraction of 2016” and “Best Amusement Ride of 2016” by the readers and editors of the Las Vegas Review-Journal and one of “Top 5 Trending U.S. Attractions” by TripAdvisor, is the focal point of the unique urban entertainment district. The wheel’s 28 glass-enclosed cabins feature an interactive experience including video and music that fade away to unveil spectacular views of the famed resort city in the 30 minutes it takes to complete one full revolution. Each cabin accommodates up to 40 people. Unique in-cabin experiences including the Happy Half Hour (for guests ages 21 and over and includes an open bar inside the cabin during the 30-minute ride); North America’s first in-cabin Chocolate Tasting with Ethel M Chocolates and Yoga in the Sky (a 60-minute experience that can accommodate up to six guests per one-hour session). Cabins are also available for individual or group experiences. For more information, please visit  Find @LINQPromenade on Facebook and follow on Twitter and Instagram.

Launching January 1 Global Green USA’s Green School Makeover Competition Presented By Pureology!

Today’s Lesson: Go Green!

Enter Global Green USA’s Green School Makeover Competition, presented by Pureology

Every child deserves a learning environment that’s safe, comfortable and free of harmful toxins.  Unfortunately, many schools across the country lack the funds to carry out much-needed repairs and renovations – subjecting children to outdated facilities with improper ventilation, poor lighting and inefficient energy usage.  Global Green USA is working to address this situation and ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn in a healthy, green school.  This year, Pureology is pleased to present the 2nd Global Green USA Green School Makeover Competition.  From January 1 to March 31, 2013, a parent, teacher, student or individual can nominate any K – 12 public, private or charter school they think deserves a Green School Makeover!

“Green schools improve student test scores, lower energy bills, and promote a more ecologically sound atmosphere.  We call it the 3 R’s of green schools: Rise in student performance levels and teacher retention; Reduction in carbon emissions and toxins; and Renewed hope in education and the future,” said Matt Petersen, President and CEO of Global Green USA.  “We are thrilled that our partnership with Pureology allows us to continue this national competition and ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn in a healthy, environmentally-friendly school.”

“In 2011, Pureology presented the first Global Green USA Green School Makeover Competition that improved the learning environment of five schools while educating parents, teachers, students and the public about the importance of creating cleaner classrooms. Pureology is working towards a more sustainable future and is proud to present the 2013 Global Green USA Green School Makeover Competition,” states Shae Kalyani, Vice President of Marketing for Pureology.  “Throughout 2013, Pureology will offer client product promotions in salons and donate a total of $250,000 to Global Green USA’s Green School Makeover Competition Presented by Pureology.”

Why Green Schools?

When a school goes green, children benefit – as well as the environment. Green schools lead to:

  • Improved student performance. When children learn in classrooms with natural daylight, improved sound quality and non-toxic building materials such as non-VOC carpets and paints, test scores can improve as much as 20%. Attendance also improves!

  • More funds for student resources. When green upgrades are made to a school, water and energy costs can be reduced by as much as 40%. These savings can be channeled back into resources that directly benefit students, such as textbooks, computers and other essentials.

  • Reduced carbon footprint. Greening a school significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions that cause global warming.

A few ideas for your Green School Makeover:

  • Creating a recycling program
  • Conducting an energy audit to determine ways energy can be saved
  • Installing solar shades to improve natural daylighting of classrooms
  • Switching to green cleaning products
  • Installing energy-efficient light bulbs
  • Using sustainable building materials, such as bamboo flooring and recycled runner gym mats
  • Replacing outdated or unsafe carpets and other materials with new, non-toxic ones

Take action and nominate a school for Global Green USA’s Green School Makeover Competition Presented by Pureology!  From January 1 to March 31, 2013, visit to learn more and nominate a school.  Work with your school principal or school facilities administrator to complete the application.  Remember to think about the types of green upgrades your school needs and why; allow 6 weeks from the start of the application to completion.  Global Green USA will review all applications and announce the winner in Q2 2013.

Pureology Serious Colour Care is a professional haircare line committed to the well-being of the environment, and since its inception in 2001, Pureology took measures to decrease its impact on the environment by using natural, organic botanicals and 100% Vegan ingredients.  All Pureology formulas offer an industry first: Longer Lasting Hair Colour – Guaranteed!®  For more information visit or like Pureology on Facebook.  Please note, Pureology products can only be guaranteed authentic when purchased from a salon.  We request that you do not credit drugstores, “beauty websites” or other unauthorized retailers.
