Miss Asian Las Vegas Pageant

Tickets for the second annual Miss Asian Las Vegas Pageant will go on sale on Friday, Aug. 8. The event will be held inside The Palazzo Theatre at The Palazzo Las Vegas on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices start at $28 (plus applicable service fees) and can be purchased at any Venetian or Palazzo box office or charge-by-phone at 866.641.7469.

The Miss Asian Las Vegas Pageant is the city’s premier beauty and culture pageant for Asian-Americans. The event provides a platform to help build leadership, friendships, community involvement, etiquette and talent for its contestants. In addition to traditional pageant rounds such as interviews, swimwear and evening gowns, the production will feature glamorous displays of Asian culture and costume. This year, the pageant will have representatives from Teen, Miss, Ms. and Mrs. categories with ages ranging from 15 – 52. A grand prize winner will be chosen in each category as well as a Chinese representative who will go on to compete in the Miss Chinatown USA Pageant.

At last year’s inaugural event, more than 600 guests came together to support the pageant and its contestants. Catherine Ho was crowned the 2013 winner and has advanced to compete in the national Miss Asian America Pageant taking place in San Francisco on Saturday, Aug. 2. Elisa Chan was awarded the Miss Chinese Las Vegas and competed in the Miss Nevada USA Pageant last January where she won Miss Photogenic, Miss Congeniality and Best Evening Gown. Connie Tsang was awarded a place to compete in Miss Chinatown USA Pageant in San Francisco last February.

The Palazzo Las Vegas on September 28

On September 28, 2014, The Palazzo Las Vegas will host the Second Annual Miss Asian Las Vegas pageant at The Palazzo Theatre. Miss Asian Las Vegas aims to bring all of the Asian communities together, both locally and regionally, through the use of education, entertainment, and cultural awareness. The pageant highlights the wide array of Asian cultures in America and hopes to inspire young women to become future leaders and to be more involved in the community.

“We couldn’t be any more excited to partner with The Palazzo,” said Annie Chang, president of Miss Asian Las Vegas. “The Palazzo’s commitment to both luxury and diversity aligns perfectly with the Asian American community and their commitment will truly inspire our diverse group of delegates on one of the most significant nights of their lives.”

Contestants for the Miss Asian Las Vegas pageant must meet the following qualifications in order to compete:

Must be 18-26 years old by September 28, 2014

Must be of one-quarter Asian descent

Must be single, without child, or never married

Natural born female

Resident of the United States

 

Three new divisions were opened up for this year’s competition – Teen, Ms., and Mrs., and contestants from all over the United States, including Nevada, California, Texas, Washington, New York, and Arizona, have applied.

 

“The Miss Asian Las Vegas Pageant is the perfect opportunity to celebrate our rich and diverse Asian cultures in our Las Vegas community,” said Joey Galon, artistic director for Miss Asian Las Vegas. “It is the culmination that brings our Far East heritage and our Western heritages together, showcasing a night of colorful pageantry like no other.  It is also the opportunity to empower young women and to select a representative that will carry on the pageantry as an official spokesmodel for the organization for the community at large.”

In conjunction with the pageant, some of the contestants will also participate in a swimwear competition, open to the public, at Azure Luxury Pool at The Palazzo on Friday, September 26.

Among the categories in which the contestants will compete include national costume, swimsuit, eveningwear, talent, platform, and Q&A. The winner of Miss Asian Las Vegas will win more than $10,000 in cash and prizes including a luxurious Mikimoto pearl collection, iPad, cosmetics, swimwear, gift certificates, and a three-night stay at The Venetian Maco Resort Hotel Casino, among other prizes.

Miss Asian Las Vegas is taking place at The Venetian and The Palazzo during the opening weekend of the world’s largest baccarat tournament, the Las Vegas Sands Dragon Master Baccarat Championship, where participants have the opportunity to win their share of a global prize pool in excess of USD$10,000,000.

WHAT:
The Venetian and The Palazzo are celebrating Chinese New Year and the Year of the Horse with a new stage spectacle, festive celebrations and décor throughout the award-winning properties.

CHINESE NEW YEAR DRAGON DANCE:

The Venetian and The Palazzo kick-off the Year of the Horse with a ceremonial dragon dance complete with firecrackers and eye painting ceremony. The colorful event will feature a parade of dancers and drummers dressed in authentic costumes as they make their way throughout the properties.
The kick-off Dragon Dance takes place on Friday Jan. 31 at 3pm. The ceremonial dragon dance will begin with an eye painting ceremony at The Venetian porte cochere, making its way through the casino to The Waterfall Atrium & Gardens of The Palazzo, and continues through The Palazzo.

CHINESE NEW YEAR ART INSTALLATION:

To commemorate the Year of the Horse, the resort’s floral and horticulture department worked with a team of artisans, and consulted with a Feng Shui master, to produce the massive “Year of the Horse” art installation. Guests are invited to visit the captivating beauty this display in The Waterfall Atrium & Gardens of The Palazzo.
This year’s Year of the Horse art instillation features:

• 8 unique hand-sculpted and hand-painted horses
• 1 sculpted lamb (The Horse’s secret friend)
• The primary horse stands at 16-feet high once installed in the fountain
• 4 horses are at 8-feet high
• 2 horses will be in the raised gardens
• 2 horses will appear to be walking through water
• 2 horses are rearing and are at 18-feet tall
• 1 horse is a foal and is 48-inches high.
Year of the Horse art installation will run through Feb. 16

PANDA! AT THE PALAZZO THEATRE:

PANDA!, an unprecedented theatrical spectacular, is the featured production for CHINESE NEW YEAR at The Venetian and The Palazzo. The new resident show, from acclaimed director An Zhao, is direct from Beijing, where it was produced by a team whose impressive credits include the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

The hold-on-to-your-seat spectacle combines high-flying acrobatics, mesmerizing martial arts, music and dance, and includes a talented cast of award-winning performers from China National Acrobatic Troupe and Shaolin Monastery Kung Fu Monks Troupe.

A new spin on a timeless tale, this one-of-a-kind production artfully mixes traditional Chinese themes with unprecedented theatrical effects, making it the most high-tech production on the Las Vegas Strip.

America’s Got Talent Live In Las Vegas stars Joe Castillo and William Close visited two Las Vegas middle schools today, offering students lectures and demonstrations in art and music, and encouraging them to pursue their dreams.

The America’s Got Talent season-seven alums visited classes at Canarelli and K.O. Knudson middle schools, where Castillo described how he discovered sand art and Close discussed how his background in sculpture and music led him to create his famed Earth Harp.

“One thing always leads to the next,” Close told students. “Life is all about steps, so don’t be discouraged if everything doesn’t come all at once.”

The stars of the show at The Palazzo Theatre were on-hand after their demonstrations to take questions from students and sign autographs.

Following weeks of heavy competition and breathtaking performances on NBC’s #1 hit television show America’s Got Talent, this season’s winner Olate Dogs and other top performers, along with fan-favorite special guests, will perform together live in a one-of-a-kind production exclusively at The Palazzo Theatre in Las Vegas.

The live show, produced by FremantleMedia Enterprises and presented by AEG Live and The Palazzo Las Vegas, kicks off an eight-week limited engagement, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 26th.

America’s Got Talent Live In Las Vegas will feature season seven winner, Olate Dogs. Led to first place by champion trainer Richard Olate and his son Nicholas, the high-energy act features magnificently coached dogs performing remarkable routines with exceptional agility. Richard, a third generation circus performer, was born in South America to a life of struggle. Performing since the age of 12, his hard work and perseverance brought him to the United States, where he and his son won the hearts of America’s Got Talent judges and audiences, capturing first place and a one-million dollar grand prize.

America’s Got Talent Live In Las Vegas will be hosted by season seven runner-up, Tom Cotter. Originally from Rhode Island, Cotter is a veteran stand-up comedian who has performed for over 23 years and has won several comedy competitions including the Las Vegas Comedy Festival.

Other fan-favorite performers will include:

Joe Castillo – Astonishing creative artist who tells stories in a unique way with sand, a light table and music as a medium.

William Close – Innovative musician and inventor of the Earth Harp, the longest stringed instrument in the world, with strings that extend up to 1,000 feet in length.

Lightwire Theater – Spellbinding group of performers who use electro-luminescent wire to create characters designed to combine dance, puppetry and a glow-in-the-dark show.

Recycled Percussion – AGT Alumni and “Junk Rock” group featuring gritty musical assaults on buckets, power tools or anything else they can get their sticks on.

Spencer Horsman – The world’s youngest escape artist extraordinaire who defies odds with his daring and impressive artistry.
